Estimating "level of safety" in traffic modeling using human error

Publication Name: 15th World Congress on Intelligent Transport Systems and ITS America Annual Meeting 2008

Publication Date: 2008-12-01

Volume: 4

Issue: Unknown

Page Range: 2562-2573

Description:

The aim of the paper is to present the results of a study about involving the human error into traffic modeling. The analysis of driver's behavior in a selected traffic situation (drivers do or do not stop at red light) provided us to define the meaning human error in the context. Based on Bayesian theorem, the probability of bad decision is one of the results of the first part of this paper. Having built the junctions in VISSIM environment, and after a detailed investigation of output parameters (in simulated traffic there is no car passing at red), a software module was developed for having the bad decision probabilities using VISSIM. Grouping drivers by driving style (aggressive, normal, slow) gives opportunity (defining numbers of driver passing at red) to find the missing link. The trial version of this software now is able to define the probability of bad decision using VISSIM outputs.

Applicability of fuzzy flip-flops in the implementation of neural networks

Publication Name: 9th International Symposium of Hungarian Researchers on Computational Intelligence and Informatics Cinti 2008

Publication Date: 2008-12-01

Volume: Unknown

Issue: Unknown

Page Range: 333-344

Description:

The concept of various type fuzzy flip-flops (F3) has already been proposed. We have done some investigations on a large scope of F 3s based on different t-norms and conorms. Also we have shown that a few F3 types are suitable for realizing neurons in multilayer perceptrons. The aim of this paper is to present a comparison of the performance of several type neural networks based on fuzzy J-K and also fuzzy D flip-flops (the latter derived from the former type). The behavior of algebraic, Yager, Dombi and Hamacher type fuzzy flip-flop neural networks are presented. The best fitting t-norm and corresponding fuzzy flip-flop type will be presented in terms of function approximation capability.

Examination and development of a radio frequency inductor

Publication Name: Przeglad Elektrotechniczny

Publication Date: 2008-12-01

Volume: 84

Issue: 12

Page Range: 230-233

Description:

Nowadays, inductors can be found in almost every electrical and electronic product. These key components are needed to store electrical energy, select frequencies, and protect againist overvoltage and overcurrent. In the case of the inductors, which usually work in the range of radio frequency, the one of the most important attributes is the quality factor. The aim of the project is to increase the Q-factor of an RF SMT inductor and to favour the industrial research and development about inductors by using the finite element method.

Number archetypes and "background" control theory concerning the fine structure constant

Publication Name: Acta Polytechnica Hungarica

Publication Date: 2008-12-01

Volume: 5

Issue: 2

Page Range: 71-104

Description:

In this paper we analyze in detail the central role of number '137', the so-called Fine Structure Constant in the collaboration of Pauli and Jung. First, we present the fascination or the obsession of Pauli for the interpretation of number '137'. Second, we treat the spontaneous messages originating from unconscious concerning number '137' in the wellknown dreams of Pauli. We restrict our investigations to the dreams containing the especially important formulae of Fine Structure Constant (4π3 + π2 + π), and also that containing the so-called background models of mathematical control systems. Third, we shortly mention four of the numerous synchronicities arising during the Pauli-Jung collaboration.

Improving social life and communication of people with disabilities by using internet facilities

No authors available

Publication Name: CEUR Workshop Proceedings

Publication Date: 2008-12-01

Volume: 415

Issue:

Page Range: Unknown

Description:

This paper presents some European initiatives developed within the Socrates Programme in order to support people with disabilities to use the new technologies. The disadvantages of the existing software designed for people with visual deficiencies together with some criteria that have to be considered in developing virtual learning applications for visually impaired are pointed out. The paper includes a proposal for improvement of the existing software for searching information and communication by people with disabilities, the first version of the FORThSIGHT Programme, elaborated in the framework of one Grundtvig 2 Learning Partnership.

Modified bacterial memetic algorithm used for fuzzy rule base extraction

Publication Name: 5th International Conference on Soft Computing as Transdisciplinary Science and Technology Cstst 08 Proceedings

Publication Date: 2008-12-01

Volume: Unknown

Issue: Unknown

Page Range: 425-431

Description:

In this paper we discuss an improved version of the Bacterial Memetic Algorithm (BMA) used for fuzzy rule base extraction. In previous works we have found several ways to improve the original BMA. Some of them perform well rather in the case of more complex fuzzy rule base, and some of them perform well rather in the case of less complex fuzzy rule base. We have combined the improvements into a new version of the BMA that performs well in each case investigated. Copyright 2008 ACM.

Nonlinear Simulation of a Magnetic Flux Leakage Measurement System

Publication Name: Przeglad Elektrotechniczny

Publication Date: 2008-12-01

Volume: 84

Issue: 12

Page Range: 184-187

Description:

The paper presents the building up of a computer controlled measurement system based on National Instruments Data Acquisition card and National Instruments LabVIEW software package. The aim of this research is to detect surface cracks on steels by applying a Magnetic Flux Leakage (MFL) testing method. First, a finite element based procedure has been implemented to analyze the arrangement. One important question is the position of the sensors. Now, eddy currents have been neglected, but the nonlinear characteristics of specimen have been taken into account.
