Numerical methods for solving the modified filter algebraic riccati equation for H-infinity filtering

Publication Name: Przeglad Elektrotechniczny

Publication Date: 2019-01-01

Volume: 95

Issue: 4

Page Range: 9-15

Description:

This paper presents numerical methods for solving the Modified Filter Algebraic Riccati Equation (MFARE) for synthesis of H-infinity fault detection filters. Two methods are presented, namely the gamma-iteration and then rewriting the MFARE in Linear Matrix Inequalities (LMIs) and casting it as a convex optimization problem. Each algorithm has to ensure the condition for a global convergence and also has to deliver an optimal solution. Not at least the computational cost has to be as small as possible.

Determining the dwell time constraint for switched H∞ filters

Publication Name: Przeglad Elektrotechniczny

Publication Date: 2019-01-01

Volume: 95

Issue: 1

Page Range: 7-11

Description:

This paper presents an algorithm for determining the minimum dwell time constraint for switched linear H fault detection filters. When applying switched systems, ensuring the stability is a crucial part, which can be guaranteed, when we switch slowly enough between the subsystems, more precisely the intervals between two consecutive switching, called dwell time, are large enough. The problem formulation is based on multiple Lyapunov functions and is expressed through a special form of linear matrix inequities (LMIs), which include a nonlinear term with the dwell time. This represents a multivariable time dependent optimization problem. To solve this special formulated LMIs, we propose an algorithm, called Td-iteration, which is a combination of the procedure of interval halving with an LMI solver. The results of the illustrative example suggest further benefits.

A switched linear system approach to the modeling of the air path of diesel engines

Description:

This paper discusses the designing of switched linear system to the modeling of the air path of diesel engines for purpose of fault detection. The main goal for further investigation is to extend our proposed H-infinity robust filtering procedure for the entire engine operational range. For this reason, an appropriate modelling approach are needed to handle the nonlinear engine model. Our idea is to design a switched system being reasonable for approximation of the main attribute of the nonlinear system, moreover, it can be handled as a linear system. This is done by creating linear time-invariant systems for various operating points of a nonlinear plant and, based on a pre-defined switching rule, we switch between them. After a short introduction of mathematical results how to derive a switched system, we explain the steps of the designed procedure. Finally, the applicability is demonstrated based on the model of air path of diesel engines via MATLAB simulations.
