Description:
District heating is seen as a key contributor to the decarbonization of the heat sector and by means of sectorcoupling technologies, a potential source of flexibility for variable renewable energy integration. To provide the basis for a database-driven simulations, applicable for renewable energy integration and sector-coupling studies, a modeling database was set up for Hungary, based entirely on open-Access data. Aiming at a bottom-up modeling approach covering all heat production sites and heat supplier companies by settlements, a detailed inventory of heat production equipment was compiled that can serve as a basis for modeling heat production from the available local heat sources. For the demand side, a heat demand model was set up where parameters were estimated from historical annual energy data and temperature time series. As application examples, data analytics use cases are presented for the production infrastructure and heat demand simulation.
