The most important part of restoring old buildings could be described as giving a new function to historical heritage sites. Contemporary construction techniques might need to be applied in such a way as to resist compromising the original building's integrity. This leads to a problem of historical faithfulness best explained by the simple fact that a contemporary rendering system will not adhere to older lime washed walls.
