On wavelet based enhancing possibilities of fuzzy classification methods

If the antecedents of a fuzzy classification method are derived from pictures or measured data, it might have too many dimensions to handle. A classification scheme based on such data has to apply a careful selection or processing of the measured results: either a sampling, re-sampling is necessary. or the usage of functions, transfor-mations that reduce the long, high dimensional observed data vector or matrix into a single point or to a low number of points. Wavelet analysis can be useful in such cases in two ways. As the number of resulting points of the wavelet analysis is approximately half at each filters, a consecutive application of wavelet transform can compress the me-asurement data, thus reducing the dimensionality of the signal, i.e., the antecedent. An SHDSL telecommunication line evaluation is used to demonstrate this type of appli-cability, wavelets help in this case to overcome the pro-blem of a one dimensional signal sampling. In the case of using statistical functions, like mean, variance, gradient, edge density, Shannon or Rényi entropies for the extraction of the information from a picture or a measured data set, and they don not produce enough information for performing the classification well enough, one or two consecutive steps of wavelet analysis and applying the same functions for the thus resulting data can extend the number of antecedents, and can dis-till such parameters that were invisible for these functions in the original data set. We give two examples, two fuzzy classification schemes to show the improvement caused by wavelet analysis: a measured surface of a combustion engine cylinder and a colonoscopy picture. In the case of the first example the wear degree is to be deter-mine, in the case of the second one, the roundish polyp content of the picture. In the first case the applied statistical functions are Rényi entropy differences, the structural entropies, in the second case mean, standard deviation, Canny filtered edge density, gradients and the entropies. In all the examples stabilized KH rule interpolation was used to treat sparse rulebases.

Numerical study on the micro-mechanical behaviour of artificial granular materials

Numerical models for the simulation of the micro-mechanical behaviour of granular assemblies have a wide range of applications, for instance in material science, process engineering, environmental engineering, railway engineering and geotechnical engineering (in this study we examined one macro-grain but what important is behaviour of granular assemblies). In this examination, experimental tests and numerical computations using the discrete element method (DEM) are carried out to evaluate the micro-mechanical behviour of the granular materials. For this purpose, artificial materials are taken into consideration for experimental Brazilian laboratory tests, and then according to the experimental results the DEM model is calibrated. Artificial crushable materials are produced by mixing cement and silt according to their mass ratio, in which cement can provide bonding and silt is the main filling material. In the DEM model, a 3D crushable granular material 'macro-grain' is built up from a large number of micro-grains which are associated according to crushable parallel bond properties. The behaviour of the single crushable grains and the fragmentation patterns under different contact configuration and load position are studied. The DEM simulation results show that the contact configuration type and load position affect the fragmentation patterns and loading capacity.

Notes on the rescaled algorithm for fuzzy cognitive maps

Fuzzy Cognitive Maps are network-like decision support tools, where the final conclusion is determined by an iteration process. Although the final conclusion relies on the assumption that the iteration reaches a fixed point, it is not straightforward that the iteration will converge to anywhere, since it can produce limit cycles or chaotic behaviour also. In this paper, we briefly analyse the behaviour of the so-called rescaled algorithm for fuzzy cognitive maps with respect to the existence and uniqueness of fixed points.

Ranking of beef cattle sires by their breeding value on progeny performance

Description:

The objective of this study was to rank Limousin sires by their different breeding values based on the weaning weight of their progeny. 205-day weaning weight record of altogether 18746 purebred and crossbred calves sired by breeding bulls of the mentioned breed were used for the estimation. Calves were belonging to three different groups by their genotype. Three different BLUP animal models were used for the estimation. According the results the direct heritability (h2) estimates of 205-day weight ranged between 0.49 and 0.59, while that of the maternal heritabilityd(h2) between m 0.24 and 0.45. The estimated breeding value of the given sires differed by the genotype (purebred or crossbred) of their progeny calves and the method of estimation. Also, there were differences in the rank of the sires depending on the genotype of their progeny, as well as the estimation methods.

European weed vegetation database – A gap-focused vegetation-plot database

This report presents the European Weed Vegetation Database, a new database of vegetation plots documenting short-lived vegetation of arable and ruderal habitats from Europe and Macaronesia. The database comprises the phytosociological classes Papaveretea rhoeadis, Sisymbrietea, Chenopodietea and Digitario sanguinalis-Era-grostietea minoris. It is a gap-focused database containing mainly plots of this vegetation from the areas not yet represented in the European Vegetation Archive (EVA), to facilitate its accessibility for researchers to answer various questions. As of the end of 2018, it contained 24,734 plots, predominantly from Southern Europe. The data can be used for phytosociological studies, various kinds of interdisciplinary research as well as for studies for agronomy, nature management and biodiversity conservation.

Medical tourism has witnessed significant growth over the last decade. This nascent sector creates a new tourist class with access to affordable healthcare services by combining healthcare services with tourism and hospitality. Information technology is an essential factor, which can enable the growth of medical tourism. Technology enables the search process for information about the available services, costs, hospitality, tourism and post-treatment options. However, these technologies are primarily legacy systems and lack interoperability. Several questions arise, including the potential patient-tourist ability to verify crucial factors such as the quality of care and the credentials of the medical professionals and medical facilities. Moreover, questions arise regarding patient-doctor trust, procedure and risk transparency‚ medical record privacy and other health-related hazards in specific procedures. In this conceptual paper, we investigate the potential benefits of Blockchain technology to address some of the open questions in medical tourism. We conclude that Blockchain technology can benefit medical tourism, and we lay the foundation for future research.

The concept of labour migration from the perspective of Central and Eastern Europe

The present paper overviews academic literature and statistics related to labour migration in part where it concerns Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), with special attention paid to Hungary. It aims to discover the main notions and results of European migration along with potential future trends. The paper, inter alia, focuses on the changing characteristics of host countries’ labour markets and demographic profiles. It has found that CEE’s involvement in intercontinental migration is expected to continue, and is driven by demographic and economic catalysts. Therefore, to address all related issues and map trends, not only an economic perspective is required. The conclusion is that preparation for integration of the newly arrived labour force is a permanent ongoing task for all employers and policymakers, as well as for the entire society.
