Nodal and vector finite elements in static and eddy current field problems

Description:

The numerical analysis or design of an arrangement, which require electromagnetic field calculation, can be characterized by the electric and magnetic field intensities and flux densities. For determination of these field quantities in the electromagnetic field, one method is to find the solution of the partial differential equations of the field quantities under prescribed boundary conditions obtained from Maxwell's equations. The Finite Element Method (FEM) is a possible technique to solve partial differential equations, which is based on the weak form of the weighted residual method. The paper presents some potential formulations, which can be used for solving static magnetic field problems and eddy current field problems with the help of FEM. Eddy current analysis with nonlinearity

The paper deals with an eddy current field problem as a case study. The aim is to find the solution of the problem by the help of the Finite Element Method (FEM), and the T, , potential formulation taking the nonlinearity of the material into account. The effect of nonlinearity has been approximated with an inverse tangent type analytical model. Error handling techniques of genetic algorithms in parallel computing environment

It is easy to create parallel genetic algorithm software with master-slave type paralelization on a cluster of workstations. In a real situation the probability of errors in communication or in some of the slave processes during a long calculation is significant. In this paper we deal with different error handling strategies in master-slave type paralelization of standard GA algorithms and show results of test calculations. Our simulations are close to real applications in the sense that we examine the best achieved objective function value at a fixed wall clock time with different error handling strategies depending on the probability of errors and number of processors. Using these results we make suggestions on the selection of a good error handling method in different optimization problems. © 2008 Akadémiai Kiadó.

Similarities and differences in the social background of female medical, nursing and health visitor students

According to our knowledge, there has never been a comprehensive research in Hungary dealing with healthcare university or college students' social background. Aim: The main objectives of our cross-section research were to analyze differences in the social background of female students who decided to become doctors, professional nurses and health visitors. Method: This research was conducted among female medical and nursing college students at the Semmelweis University. There were 295 students invited to participate, the response rate was 68,08% (N = 201). Data analysis was performed by SPSS software by using descriptive methods of statistics. Results: We found a decisive difference among medical, nursing and health visitor students while analyzing a number of socio-demographic characteristics. Most medical students came from families where the parents had college or university degrees, but we can state that there is a minimal likelihood in the case of college students that they are descendants of parents with higher educational degrees. We did not find statistical differences in the three student sample groups regarding their marital status, but fewer nursing college students lived in marriage or household partnership. Conclusion: We found a significant difference in the social background of nursing college and medical students. The social disadvantages of nursing and health visitor students are more considerable than those of medical students.

The concepts of state responsibility and liability in nuclear law

The legal concept and the doctrinal theory of state responsibility and liability have been in the focus of public international law for a long while. By means of domestic legislation, national law-regardless of the relevance of the international legal framework-governs the system of civil liability within the area of civil law of each state. Whereas, as opposed to the framework of civil liability governed by diverse domestic rules, exclusively a standard regulation framed at an inter-state level can secure a uniform system of state liability. The issue of state responsibility for nuclear damages raises specific questions to be examined in the framework of general international regulations (e.g., Conventions adopted within the area of nuclear law) related to responsibility and liability. Thus, answering or the clarification of these specific pivotal questions within the scope of public international law shall be our starting point, which may also entail the modification of the matter of state responsibility and liability (not only in the concerned branch of law). © 2008 Akadémiai Kiadó.

Characterisation of hardening performance of quenchants by integrated numerical method

An integrated numerical technique for evaluation of hardening performance of cooling media applied for steel quenching is outlined. The newly developed method is based on the specific processing of measured time-temperature samples performed as a result of cooling curve tests. The heat transfer coefficient as a function of surface temperature characterises the heat transfer during cooling and is calculated using an iterative inverse algorithm. The heat transfer coefficient is used for calculation of the microstructural constituents and the hardness profile of cylindrical samples of arbitrary diameter. The hardening performance of media is evaluated by the estimated hardness of specimens obtained by heat treatment. © 2008 IHTSE Partnership.

Family and carrier role conflicts of female health professionals

The aim of this study was to gain statistically founded information about female health care workers' career and family role burden and role-conflicts in relation to their general health status. SUBJECTS AND METHODS - The survey was conducted among women doctors and college-degree nurses working in in-patient institutes and was based on self-provided information obtained from mailed questionnaires. The response rate was 45.54% (n=409). RESULTS - The exclusively career-oriented or family-oriented ways of life were both dismissed by a larger proportion of respondents, as these were considered equally important. Work-to-family conflicts were reported by 44.8%, mainly mentioning night shifts, lack of time and too much workload as a cause. One in five (19.5%) respondent reported family-to-work conflicts. The role conflicts correlate with life and career satisfaction, plans to leave profession, health status and the prevalence of psychosomatic symptoms. CONCLUSION - The results suggest the presence of many conflict points between the family and career roles of health care professionals working in the Hungarian healthcare system. The role-conflict had an explicitly negative effect on the respondents' general satisfaction and health status. The importance of this subject warrants further analytic and comparative investigations.

Occurrences of Nanocyperion species in West Hungary - Role of moist plough-lands in conservation

In the last decades in Hungary biotopes of Nanocyperion species have been reduced significantly according to the melioration and the declining of pasturing. Owing to the habitat loss more species such as the examined Lindernia procumbens, Eleocharis ovata, Centunculus minimus, Limosella aquatica, Juncus sphaerocarpus and Elatine triandra became endangered all over the country. During the researches site requirements of these species were analysed as well as their connection with the cultivated species and the soil cultivation carried out on the plough-lands. According to our experiences in West Hungary actual occurrences of Lindernia procumbens, Centunculus minimus, Juncus sphaerocarpus and Elatine triandra are related strongly to the plough-lands. Eleocharis ovata and Limosella aquatica occur on plough-lands less frequently, exist mainly on other pioneer moist habitats. It can be established in case of all the 6 examined species that their habitat spectrum has extended by the increasing in the territory of ploughs forming spacious convenient biotopes for these species. © Eugen Ulmer KG.
