Contribution to knowledge of the oribatid mite genus Achipterina (Acari, Oribatida, Ceratokalummidae)

Publication Name: International Journal of Acarology

Publication Date: 2025-05-19

Volume: 51

Issue: 4

Page Range: 251-257

Description:

Achipterina (Oribatida, Ceratokalummidae) currently comprises four species, collectively distributed in the tropical and subtropical areas. We describe a new species—A. mangrovicasp. nov.—based on adults collected from litter of a mangrove forest in the Can Gio Biosphere Reserve, southern Vietnam. It is the first representative of the family discovered in the Vietnamese fauna. The new species is characterized in having a bidentate rostrum, setiform rostral and lamellar setae, long inner tooth of lamellar cusp, unilaterally fusiform bothridial seta, long interlamellar seta, dentate anterior part of pteromorph, oval and oblique notogastral porose area Aa. The morphology of the gnathosoma, ovipositor, and legs are presented for the first time for Achipterina. An identification key and summary of distribution and habitats of the known species of Achipterina are provided. http://www.zoobank.org/urn:lsid:zoobank.org:pub:906EA4DE-A0A3-475C-B273-F8327F44832F.

Faunistic and taxonomic data on arboreal oribatid mites (Acari, Oribatida) from Can Gio Biosphere Reserve, Vietnam

Publication Name: International Journal of Acarology

Publication Date: 2025-01-01

Volume: 51

Issue: 7-8

Page Range: 530-537

Description:

Eleven species of oribatid mites, belonging to eight genera and seven families, were collected from mangrove trees in the Can Gio Biosphere Reserve, Vietnam. One new species–Cultrobates gioensissp. nov. (Ceratokalummidae)–is described. It differs from all representatives of the genus by the presence of monodactylous legs. A supplementary description of Malaconothrus canopeus (Iglesias, Palacios-Vargas and Mahunka, 2001) (Malaconothridae) is presented, based on Vietnamese materials, along with summarized diagnostic morphological traits. https://zoobank.org/lsid:zoobank.org:pub:5F01722A-71BF-4ED8-9D74-89F2F517A521.

New species of Dolicheremaeus (Acari, Oribatida, Otocepheidae) from Vietnam

Publication Name: Acarologia

Publication Date: 2025-01-01

Volume: 65

Issue: 4

Page Range: 1068-1081

Description:

Two new species of the genus Dolicheremaeus (Oribatida, Otocepheidae)—D. gialaiensis n. sp. and D. kbangensis n. sp.—are described, based on adults collected from forest litter in the Kon Chu Rang Nature Reserve, central Vietnam. Dolicheremaeus gialaiensis n. sp. characterized by the unusual sculpturing (small, dense, conical tubercles) of the prodorsum, notogaster, and anogenital region. Dolicheremaeus kbangensis n. sp. differs from the related species D. baloghi and D. lineolatus by the notogastral sculpturing, the morphology of the bothridial seta, and the length of the notogastral setae. An identification key to species of Dolicheremaeus from Vietnam is provided.

A new sexually dimorphic species of Pirnodus (Acari, Oribatida, Oripodidae) associated with trees in southern Vietnam

Publication Name: Persian Journal of Acarology

Publication Date: 2026-01-01

Volume: 15

Issue: 1

Page Range: Unknown

Description:

Pirnodus (Oribatida, Oripodidae) currently comprises seven species, collectively distributed in the tropical and southern Palaearctic areas. A new arboreal species – P. arboreus sp. nov. – is described, based on adults collected from branches of different trees in the Cat Tien National Park, southern Vietnam. The new species is characterized by distinct sexual dimorphism, e.g., interlamellar seta long, setiform in females versus medium-sized, phylliform in males, posterior part of notogaster not depressed in females versus depressed in males, notogastral seta h1 well developed, setiform in females versus vestigial in males, notogastral seta lm located medial to la in females versus anteromedial in males, genital and anal apertures distanced from each other in females versus genital aperture shifted to anal aperture and connected to it in males, and dorsal side of tarsi I and II without tooth in females versus with tooth in males. Summary of distribution and habitats of the known species of Pirnodus are provided.
