ESG disclosure topics and reporting frameworks: exploratory research across automotive, construction, and energy industries

Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) reporting and proper measurement of greenhouse gas emissions are becoming increasingly important for industries with substantial environmental impact. This research aims to assess the current state of ESG reporting practices and highlight areas for improvement across the automotive, construction and energy industries operating in the Central Eastern European (CEE) region. To achieve this aim, a multi-industry sustainability disclosure database was created and analyzed through a Python-based text-mining methodology, using term frequency-inverse document frequency and keyword-in-context analysis. The process involved extracting and preprocessing text from 60 sustainability reports for the year 2021, followed by constructing a custom dictionary of key ESG terms aligned with the European Sustainability Reporting Standards. The findings reveal considerable variance in the focus of qualitative disclosures across industries, particularly regarding climate change and biodiversity. The investigation underscores the need for enhanced transparency, consistent metrics, and rigorous validation in ESG reporting. The study also provides new insights into the technical possibilities of automated text analysis for sustainability reporting in the CEE region, and highlights key areas where improvement appears necessary.

Biological and therapeutic implications of sex hormone-related gene clustering in testicular cancer

Background: Gonadotropin dysregulation seems to play a potential role in the carcinogenesis of testicular germ cell tumor (TGCT). The aim of this study was to explore the expression of specific genes related to sex hormone regulation, synthesis, and metabolism in TGCT and to define specific hormonal clusters. Two publicly available databases were used for this analysis (TCGA and GSE99420). By means of hard-threshold regularized KMEANS clustering, we assigned TGCT samples into four clusters defined in respect to different expression of the sex hormone-related genes. We analysed clinical data, protein and gene expression, signaling regarding hormonal clusters. Based on whole-transcriptome gene expression, prediction of anti-cancer drug response was made by RIDGE models. Results: Cluster #1 (12–16%) consisted primarily of non-seminomatous germ cell tumor (NSGCT), characterized by high expression of PRL, GNRH1, HSD17B2 and SRD5A1. Cluster #2 (42–50%) included predominantly seminomas with high expression of SRD5A3, being highly infiltrated by T and B cells. Cluster #3 (8.3–18%) comprised of NSGCT with high expression of CGA, CYP19A1, HSD17B12, HSD17B1, SHBG. Cluster #4 (23–30%), which consisted primarily of NSGCT with a small fraction of seminomas, was outlined by increased expression of STAR, POMC, CYP11A1, CYP17A1, HSD3B2 and HSD17B3. Elevated fibroblast levels and increased extracellular matrix- and growth factor signaling-related gene signature scores were described in cluster #1 and #3. In the combined model of progression-free survival, S2/S3 tumor marker status, hormonal cluster #1 or #3 and teratoma histology, were independently associated with 25–30% increase of progression risk. Based on the increased receptor tyrosine kinase and growth factor signaling, cluster #1, #3 and #4 were predicted to be sensitive to tyrosine kinase inhibitors, FGFR inhibitors or EGFR/ERBB inhibitors. Cluster #2 and #4 were responsive to compounds interfering with DNA synthesis, cytoskeleton, cell cycle and epigenetics. Response to apoptosis modulators was predicted only for cluster #2. Conclusions: Hormonal cluster #1 or #3 is an independent prognostic factor regarding poor progression-free survival. Hormonal cluster assignment also affects the predicted drug response with cluster-dependent susceptibility to specific novel therapeutic compounds.

Coherent control of reflection and transmission solitons of structured light via a gain-assisted medium

A gain-assisted atomic medium controls and modifies spatial solitons of reflection and transmission of structured light. Structured light pulses of reflection and transmission are generated and analyzed by azimuthal quantum numbers dependent on control driving fields in the medium. The study revealed the formation of spatial bright and dark solitons. The bright and dark soliton splitting regions are linearly increasing according to azimuthal quantum numbers of formula. Two, four, six, and eight bright and dark soliton regions are investigated with the azimuthal quantum number of. The structured light of the reflection pulse maintained a constant shape, exhibiting weak nonlinearity along the x-axis and strong nonlinearity along the y-axis. However, the structured light transmission pulse displayed varying shapes, influenced by the balanced nonlinearities along both the x- and y-axes at higher azimuthal quantum number, leading to stable propagation of spatial bright solitons. These findings highlight the significant role of the structured light effect in controlling and stabilizing soliton dynamics, with potential applications in nonlinear optics, traffic flow, signal processing, plasma physics, quantum field theory, and optical soliton interferometry.

Eating disorders and disordered eating on wrestling sport: a systematic review

Although there are studies on the effects of eating disorders (EDs) among athletes, a limited number of studies have been conducted in wrestling. This systematic review aims to identify the prevalence of eating disorders (ED) and disordered eating (DE) in wrestling, which is important for developing healthier weight control behaviours within the sport. A systematic review was conducted following the PRISMA protocol, focusing on publications from the last 10 years. PubMed, Scopus, PsycINFO, SPORTDiscus and Web of Science were used to identify eligible studies with the searching terms “Eating disorders” AND “wrestlers” OR “Eating disorders” AND “wrestling” OR “Disordered eating” AND “wrestlers” OR “Disordered eating” AND “wrestling” OR “Anorexia Nervosa” AND “wrestlers” OR “Anorexia Nervosa” AND “wrestling” OR “Bulimia Nervosa” AND “wrestlers” OR “Bulimia Nervosa” AND “wrestling” within the timeframe from 2014 to 2024. Eight articles met the inclusion criteria. When all studies were considered as a homogeneous group, the analysis revealed: (a) wrestlers are significantly more susceptible to Eds than other branches, (b) wrestlers have unhealthy weight control behaviors to control weight for optimum performance and to enhance their muscular appearance due to body image issues. It is recommended that future research address eating disorders, which have predominantly been studied in male wrestlers, within female wrestlers as well. Additionally, it is advised to identify potential causes contributing to the elevated risk of eating disorders among wrestlers and to develop targeted prevention strategies.

Nonlinear kinematic impacts on nanofluid flow across rough surface with numerical simulation

The current study demonstrates the intricate thermo-solutal transportation features of a nanofluid experiencing non-linear kinematics as it flows across a rough porous stretched interface. Previous work has typically been limited to smooth geometries, narrow parameter ranges, and few physical intuitions. However, this paper extends the analysis to include surface roughness, porosity effect, nonlinear stretching and essential physical phenomena like effect of magnetic field, Brownian motion special case thermophoresis effect and variable suction/injection. The resulting extension does not only reproduce realistic flow cases, but reveals extremely sensitive solution behaviors that have been completely untouched in the literature. Using scaling transformation approach, the governing non-linear partial differential equations (PDEs) for the transport of momentum, energy, and solutal in the transformed independent variables are translated into a set of coupled ordinary differential equations (ODEs). Numerical simulation of the above transport equations with ten dimensionless parameters is done using the MATLAB BVP4C (built in solver) approach, which ensures computational stability and high precision across broad parametric domains. Additionally, using an expanded parameter domain revealed previously unknown solution properties. For instance, as the thermophoretic limitation raised, the species concentration rose by 5% and fell by 12%. Additionally, sensitivity was demonstrated by the velocity profiles shifting by 20% in response to a small variation in the slip parameter. Finding the limits at which qualitatively reactions to system modifications and other non-physical solutions arise from the qualitative responses is notably innovative. Such findings will propel the development of more efficient coatings and temperature control techniques, offering helpful advice to greatly improve transportation effectiveness in actual nanofluid applications.

The role of generative AI in improving the sustainability and efficiency of HR recruitment process

Generative artificial intelligence (GAI) is becoming increasingly important in business processes, including human resource management. GAI can offer the potential to automate repetitive tasks in recruitment processes, optimise decision making, and reduce administrative burdens. Although AI can help increase operational efficiency, environmental pressures must also be taken into account. AI models require significant computing power, resulting in high energy consumption and increased CO2 emissions. This dichotomy may raise the question of whether the efficiency gains provided by GAI outweigh the environmental burden. This article examines the environmental impacts of GAI on HRM through a case study. The research combines qualitative and quantitative methods: expert interviews are used to explore practical applications, while calculations on energy consumption, costs, and emissions are carried out by comparing traditional and AI-based recruitment methods. The results of the case study showed that the integration of GAI led to efficiency gains. The time required for the recruitment process was reduced by 13.25 h, which could save thousands of man-hours per year. At the same time, costs and energy consumption and associated carbon emissions were reduced. The study highlights the duality of “AI for sustainability” and “sustainability of AI”, highlighting that while GAI can contribute to more sustainable corporate operations, its own environmental footprint raises questions about long-term sustainability. The results will provide HR professionals, decision makers, and organisations with practical insights into the potential for sustainable use of AI.

Innovative configurations for organizational resilience: Bridging the proactive and reactive capability in volatile environments

A growing concern among academics and professionals has placed organizational resilience (OR) at the leading edge of their studies' catalysts because of its peripheral vulnerability to turbulent environments in organizational settings. This research demonstrates the value of competitive advantage and the practices of resilient firms, thereby strengthening organizational resilience in a disruptive environment. Organizational resilience has been established as a process for gaining a competitive edge and enhancing firms' performance in a volatile environment where disruptions, such as epidemics, political turmoil, and economic instability, threaten the sustainability of their operations. Adopting the Dynamic Capability View (DCV), this study investigates proactive (PRO) and reactive (REA) capability configurations in relation to organizational resilience through partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) and fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA). The study develops the measurement items for organizational resilience to test the proposed hypotheses using PLS-SEM and fsQCA. PLS-SEM finds that flexibility, collaboration, response, and recovery are positive drivers for organizational resilience, whereas fsQCA reveals that flexibility, response, and recovery are sufficient for the same outcome. The combined results indicate that flexibility, responsiveness, and recovery are key conditions for predicting high organizational resilience in a disruptive environment. The combined findings confirm that the measurement items of proactive and reactive performance significantly better align with organizational resilience and meet the "capability" and "resources" suitable criteria of DCV. The combined findings of this research make both theoretical and practical contributions to the foundation of pre-disruptive and post-disruptive resilience.

Mapping the research landscape of blockchain and crowdfunding

Blockchain technology and crowdfunding (CF) have emerged as disruptive forces in the finance and entrepreneurship landscape, potentially transforming traditional modes of capital raising and investment. This study investigates the intersection of blockchain technology and CF to provide a comprehensive overview of the current state of research through a systematic literature review and bibliometric analysis. By examining 219 publications sourced from Scopus, this study employed descriptive statistics, article co-citations, and keyword co-occurrence to identify key bibliometric indicators, themes, and trends. The findings reveal a surge in research activity related to blockchain and CF, emphasizing initial cryptocurrency offerings, financial technology (Fintech), and the role of blockchain in improving transactional efficiency, disintermediation, and venture capital CF. Keyword co-occurrence analysis reveals diverse research themes, including smart contracts, fundraising campaigns, sustainable entrepreneurship, and Islamic Fintech. Based on the findings of this analysis, several implications and directions for further investigation are highlighted. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first attempt to analyze the intersection of blockchain technology and CF using scientometric techniques systematically.

Exploring the state-of-the-art of halal food research using latent Dirichlet allocation

The rapid growth of the halal food (HF) industry has created a pressing need for a comprehensive synthesis of the existing body of knowledge. However, there remains a significant gap in the literature regarding the key themes, patterns, and emerging areas in HF research. This study addresses this gap by systematically analyzing the HF literature to identify key themes, patterns, and emerging areas of interest in the HF field. The study employs latent Dirichlet allocation (LDA)-based topic modeling to uncover and map the underlying themes in the HF literature, analyzing 738 publications from Scopus to determine the main topics and trends in HF research. The analysis reveals six main topics in HF research: (1) HF quality, safety assessment, and production methods; (2) HF supply chain management; (3) HF detection and authentication methods; (4) HF and Islamic culture; (5) HF and consumer behavior; and (6) HF and tourism and hospitality. The study identifies an overall increasing trend in HF research over the years, with particular emphasis on HF supply chain management and consumer behavior, while HF and Islamic culture received comparatively lower levels of attention. This study offers a novel and comprehensive analysis of the HF literature using LDA-based topic modeling, highlighting the key themes and patterns in the field. The insights derived from this study hold significant theoretical and practical implications for researchers, policymakers, manufacturers, retailers, and consumers in the rapidly growing HF industry. By identifying the main areas of focus and research gaps, the study serves as a valuable foundation for further research and analysis in the field, ultimately contributing to the ongoing development and evolution of HF research.
