Investigation of the fault tolerance of the PIM-SM IP multicast routing protocol for IPTV purposes

Publication Name: Infocommunications Journal

Publication Date: 2013-03-01

Volume: 5

Issue: 1

Page Range: 21-28

Description:

IPTV services should use an IP multicast solution for a network bandwidth efficient delivery of the media contents. PIM-SM is the most commonly used IP multicast routing protocol in IPTV systems. A short introduction to the operation of PIM-SM is given. Its fault tolerance is examined by experimenting on a mesh topology multicast test network built up by XORP routers in a virtualizcd environment. Different fault scenarios are played and different parameters of PIM-SM and OSPF are examined if they influence and how they influence the outage time of an IPTV service. A formal model is given for the service outage time of the IPTV service on the basis of the results of the experiments.

Benefits of lethal pandemics: Direct impact of contagious diseases on public administration in Hungary (1867-1914)

No authors available

Publication Name: AMHA - Acta Medico-Historica Adriatica

Publication Date: 2013-02-01

Volume: 11

Issue: 2

Page Range: 213-222

Description:

The reconciliation of 1867 between Austria and Hungary brought great changes to Hungarian public administration: the way towards the building up of a modern public administration had been opened. Although there was a functioning public health system and a related legislation from the late 18th century, major issues - such as balanced geographical distribution of medical personnel, fair access to medical services even in the poorer regions of the country, and the effective protection against some contagious diseases - were not resolved for decades. During the reform work of public administration since the 1870s, the lawmakers touched repeatedly the framework and functioning of the public health as well. Although the general conditions of the domain depended traditionally on the municipalities and counties due to the national importance of the matter, the government made efforts to make the functioning of the public health more efficient through centralisation. The contagious diseases continuously endangered the population, revealing the weak points in the existing public health system, thereby giving a momentum to the reforms and helping the government in its organization of prevention and clearly contributing to the legislation work.

Some regularized versions of the method of fundamental solutions

Publication Name: Lecture Notes in Computational Science and Engineering

Publication Date: 2013-01-21

Volume: 89 LNCSE

Issue: Unknown

Page Range: 181-198

Description:

A powerful method of the solution of homogeneous equations is considered. Using the traditional approach of the Method of Fundamental Solutions, the fundamental solution has to be shifted to external source points. This is inconvenient from computational point of view, moreover, the resulting linear system can easily become severely ill-conditioned. To overcome this difficulty, a special regularization technique is applied. In this approach, the original second-order elliptic problem (a modified Helmholtz problem in the paper) is approximated by a fourth-order multi-elliptic boundary interpolation problem. To perform this boundary interpolation, either the Method of Fundamental Solutions, or a direct multi-elliptic interpolation can be used. In the paper, a priori error estimations are deduced. A numerical example is also presented. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

Diagnostic measurement for the effective performance of motor vehicles

No authors available

Publication Name: Acta Polytechnica Hungarica

Publication Date: 2013-01-01

Volume: 10

Issue: 3

Page Range: 239-249

Description:

Diagnostics means instrumental measurement without dismantling. So measuring the engines on rolling roads is not incorporated in this concept, as this measurement is accomplished on engines taken out from vehicles. During service, it is often necessary to measure the performance of the engines, or to judge the performance projection of some corrections. The new method discussed in this article provides a solution to this problem.

Reliability in automotive engineering by fuzzy rule-based FMEA

Publication Name: Lecture Notes in Electrical Engineering

Publication Date: 2013-01-01

Volume: 197 LNEE

Issue: VOL. 9

Page Range: 793-800

Description:

The Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) is a reliability estimation method intended to identify potential failures which have significant consequences affecting the system performance. In a Failure Modes and Effects Analysis the Probability of Failure (PoF), Consequence of Failure (CoF) and Detectability of Failure (DoF) may be determined using engineering judgment and/or based mathematical models, where the result is expressed in a term. The terms qualities and quantities are sometimes used to distinguish these methods. The fuzzy FMEA is a quantitative method of reliability or risk analysis which involves the study of the failure modes can occur in every part of an integrated system. The aim of this paper is to show the possibility of use of fuzzy set theory to estimate failure criticality level theoretically and practically by exemplification of case study of process' risk assessment. © Springer-Verlag 2013.

European funds in the nonprofit sector of West-Transdanubia and Gyor

Publication Name: Civil Szemle

Publication Date: 2013-01-01

Volume: 10

Issue: 1

Page Range: 35-53

Description:

The paper seeks answers to the question: how successful were the nonprofit organisations in the West-Transdanubian region and in Gyor receiving EU funds between 2004 and October 2012 (the authors also show the national data to make better analysis). The study shows how many applications were successful and how many supports required and got the organisations during the first (2004-2006) and second (2007-2013) planning periods. The paper also presents the most popular Operational Programs regarding the number of the projects and the amount of the EU support. The authors introduce detailed the successful organisations in Gyor. The aim of the study is to show how were the nonprofit organisations successful getting EU funds in West-Transdanubia and in Gyor, and what types of projects were supported in these areas.

Interpretation of sustainability as the social adaptation of resiliency

Publication Name: Wit Transactions on Ecology and the Environment

Publication Date: 2013-01-01

Volume: 179 VOLUME 1

Issue: Unknown

Page Range: 177-188

Description:

The paper briefly overviews different types of diversity; not only ecological ones but also its various socio, economical as well as local, regional and global technological appearances, like the importance of retaining irreplaceable cultural diversity and the diverse ways of thinking and behaviour. The first part of the study analyses these different types of diversity which are preserved. The discussion of the mutual connections of the bio-cultural diversity is the content of the next section. Sustainable development is in great need of adequate competencies and expertise, both in the planning and implementation phase of promoting programmes and projects, including the long-term and complicated effects of them. The fundamental condition of sustainability - and therefore any plan which intends to produce a sustainable socio, economical, moreover ecological system (SES), is that it should express the need for resilient improvement of institutions, and, in particular, the suitable institutionalisation of the decision making process. The research and assessment methodology of this study has been the gathering of a broad spectrum of social, economical, technological and ecological publications on this topic, evaluation of the scientific literature and also the combination of their results. The end of the paper consists of conclusions and furthermore, suggestions for scientists, experts and politicians on how to apply a holistic, multidisciplinary approach and methodology both in proposal and decision making processes. © 2013 WIT Press.
