Energy and cost optimal design for the reconstruction of residential building envelopes by bacterial memetic algorithms

Description:

In this paper we apply bacterial memetic algorithms for the energy and cost optimal renovation of residential buildings. Following economical demands, there are two types of optimizations considered. First, the total cost of the renovation is prescribed and the best energy quality of the building envelope is determined with a total construction cost not exceeding the given limit. Second, the targeted energy quality of the renovated building is prescribed, and the algorithm determines the optimal renovation plan requiring the smallest costs. Only the optimization of the building envelope is performed, the optimization of the heating-ventilation-air-condition system is ignored. The chromosome of the bacteria contains genes taking only integer values and genes taking real values as well. The value of the genes taking only integer numbers are improved by a simple local search algorithm. The value of the genes taking real numbers are improved locally by the Levenberg-Marquardt approach. Results of actual building optimizations reveal the potential of the proposed algorithm. © 2012 IEEE.

New energy management and hybrid energy storage for metro railcar

This paper focuses on the use of model and simulation one of renewable energy. In this paper the results of simulation models by Matlab-Simulink for an urban-metro railcar and some newer methods for reducing the need value of capacitance for energy storage in cooperation by a Li-ion battery are presented. In this research was been investigated the Li-ion battery and the supercapacitor as hybrid energy storing device for the same task and its effectivness under operation of a suitable energy control system. The available decreasing ratio of the needed energy storage at case SCAP is 25 % to 40 % with this improved energy control method, which are significant values as decreasing in volume, mass and price. Mass reduction of our hybrid storage system is significant, about 60%.

Multi-threaded Bacterial Iterated Greedy heuristics for the Permutation Flow Shop Problem

This paper proposes approaches for combining Iterated Greedy techniques, as state-of-the-art methods, with bacterial evolutionary algorithms based on a hybrid technique involving the Multi-Threaded Iterated Greedy heuristic and a memetic algorithm in order to efficiently solve the Permutation Flow Shop Problem on parallel computing architectures. In the present work three novel approaches are proposed by combining a variant of the Bacterial Memetic Algorithm and the recently proposed Bacterial Iterated Greedy technique with the mentioned hybrid multi-threaded approach. The techniques thus obtained are evaluated via simulation runs carried out on a series of data from the well-known Taillard's benchmark problem set. Based on the experimental results the multi-threaded hybrid methods are compared to each other and to the original techniques (i.e. to the techniques without bacterial algorithms). © 2012 IEEE.

Research on CogInfoCom channels has thus far focused on channels in which syntactics and semantics have a static relationship, and in which information is communicated through the transmission of discrete CogInfoCom messages between two communicational endpoints. In this paper, we make a first attempt to extend the concept of CogInfoCom channels to incorporate dynamicons, which are forms of communication in which two or more communicational endpoints are bound to the same dynamic processes. Information, then, is the transmitted dynamics itself, instead of being represented by a set of messages which are external to the process of communication. After a short introduction to what we mean by the concept of dynamicons, we present a reference model to this problem which is suitable for Internet-based communication characterized by unpredictable time delays. We discuss how the generalization of the reference model can lead to interesting and novel applications in CogInfoCom. © 2012 IEEE.

When optimizing multi-dimensional non-linear problems the optimal solution in technical terms can be found by heuristic methods. It seems that human thinking does not work properlywith the mathematical processing: human decisionmakers tend to reject options that represent extreme values in the set of parameters and are not able to handle many system parameters at the same time. Improving the efficiency of a fuzzy-based single-stroke character recognizer with hierarchical rule-base

In this paper we present an improved version of the fuzzy based single-stroke character recognizer introduced in previous works. The modified recognition method is able to reach an acceptable accuracy in the character recognition with a significant decrease on the computational complexity of the algorithm. Different hierarchical rule-base techniques were successfully used to improve the efficiency of fuzzy systems. The altered recognizer reached 98.82% average recognition rate with 26 different single-stroke symbols (based on Palm's Graffiti alphabet) without learning user-specific parameters or modifying the rule-base during the tests. The new algorithm has a small decrease in the recognition rate compared to the accuracy of the original systems but the new method has less computational price than the original system does. © 2012 IEEE.

The paper offers evolving Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy models for a nonlinear benchmark represented by the pendulum-crane system and focused on the dynamics of pendulum angular position behavior. The rule bases and parameters of T-S fuzzy models are continuously evolved by an online identification algorithm in terms of computing the potentials of new data points. Accepting the pendulum angle as model output, two T-S fuzzy models are derived, viz. with a single input and with three inputs. The experimental results are obtained for a pendulum-crane laboratory equipment system and they show the performance of the proposed evolving T-S fuzzy models. © 2012 IEEE.

Performance evaluation of telecommunication lines can be a decisive action in the practice of telecommunication service providers. There are several evaluation techniques in use of telecommunication companies. These techniques can be divided into some groups depending on the efficiency, the cost or the set of the input parameters. This paper lists some of the used evaluation techniques, aims to shortly introduce a new method for preliminary evaluation of the twisted pairs of the access networks for commonly used digital data transmission technologies, and describe the circumstances of the line noise as an optional input parameter of decision making. It will be cleared, that the line noise plays role on forming data transfer rate, however in certain cases it can be passed over. © 2012 IEEE.

On the relationships between the first and second Zagreb Indices

The Zagreb indices introduced by Gutman and Trinajstić more than thirty years ago are graph-based molecular structure descriptors. The research and application of the Zagreb indices appears mainly in mathematical chemistry. In this paper we present some new inequalities related to the first and the second Zagreb indices. By introducing the notions of P-dominant graphs, and of the valency-functions of a graph, correspondences with the novel inequalities presented are discussed. In addition, we find examples characterizing the validity of Zagreb indices inequality and equalities for some particular classes of connected biregular graphs.
