Green supply chain management and SMEs sustainable performance in developing country: role of green knowledge sharing, green innovation and big data-driven supply chain

The objective of this study was to examine the impact of green supply chain management (GSCM) on sustainable performance (SP) and the mediating role of green knowledge sharing (GKS), green innovation (GI), and big data-driven supply chain (BDDSC) in SMEs of Pakistan as a developing country. Primary data was gathered through adopted questionnaires from SME employees. Four hundred sixty-nine cases were considered for data analysis after data clearing in SPSS version 25. Furthermore, the proposed hypotheses were tested with the help of SmartPLS version 3 through structural equation modeling SEM. Findings revealed all seven direct hypotheses, including GSCM on SP, GKS, GI, and BDDSC and GKS, GI, and BDDSC on SP in SMEs of Pakistan. Moreover, the partial mediation effect of GKS, GI, and BDDSC was also confirmed between GSCM and SP. This study contributes to the context of SMEs in developing countries and recommends findings for future policies and implications at the firm and government levels for better results. Policymakers, SME owners, and managers must support innovation culture, engage their stakeholders, and invest in new products, processes, and business models relevant to addressing environmental and sustainability concerns. Moreover, Pakistan’s government policymakers recognize SMEs’ power to effectively integrate GSCM knowledge sharing, green innovation, GSCM practices, and big data technology into supply chain management.

The study’s central theme is sustainability practice. It aims to measure the impact of sustainability practices on market performance. The study is quantitative, and data was obtained through a structured questionnaire using a five-point Likert scale. Different firms, such as manufacturing, non-manufacturing, and service support, run the survey by sharing the data (n=200). Data were analysed through Smart PLS version 4.1.0.0, employing a structural equation model (SEM) technique to measure the impact of exogenous variables. All three variables (Employee engagement in sustainability, corporate social responsibility, and environmental concern) positively and significantly impact sustainability practice. Thus, the study’s central finding is that sustainability practice positively influences the market performance of the firms, and the association is also significant. Companies that adopt sustainable practices can differentiate themselves in the market, potentially improving their competitiveness. Companies can exploit the notion that sustainability is a highly efficient technique for stimulating growth. Integrating sustainable principles can lead to long-lasting economic advantages. The novelty of this work is that it considers sustainability practices to determine the impact on market performance. Future work can be conducted on the specification of market performance, such as sales growth, return on investment (ROI), return on assets (ROA), and earnings per share (EPS).

Organizational Internal Factors and Sustainable Performance: A Serial Mediation Model

Objective: The present study aims to explore the relationships between big data analytics capability, circular economy practices, and SMEs’ sustainable performance in Pakistan. It investigates notable factors determining SMEs’ sustainable performance, including employees’ perceived usefulness, data-driven culture, and leadership competency mediating the mentioned relationships. Method: The study employs quantitative research based on a positivist philosophy orientation. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire distributed among the employees of 350 SMEs operating in Pakistan’s different regions. Findings: The study's results demonstrated the direct effects of big data analytics capability on sustainable performance, employee perceived usefulness, and data-driven culture. Additionally, circular economy practices influence sustainable performance; employee perceived usefulness and leadership competency. Finally, the results highlighted that each relationship is subject to partial mediation, which indicates the role of employee-perceived usefulness and data-driven culture in the relationship between big data analytics and sustainable performance and employee-perceived usefulness associated with the relationship between circular economy practices and sustainable performance. Novelty: The present study highlights that all three of the previous topics are consistent and significantly contribute to the existing literature by providing a model with the main factors that determine SMEs’ sustainable performance, which can be sufficient for countries’ developing economies.

Eco-friendly strategic goals and the performance of innovative green processes: The impact of green intellectual capital

The purpose of this study is to check the intellectual capital's role in shaping green process innovation. This article contends the company's capacity to create, possess, incorporate, and implement environmentally friendly intellectual assets in its activities will result in a higher degree of performance in terms of innovative green processes. This performance serves as an indicator of the company's enduring dedication to an environmentally conscious strategy. The industries chosen for this study comprised textile, chemical, pharmaceutical, and steel based in Mexico. The random sampling technique was used to gather data. Upon analyzing the gathered data, we used only 253 questionnaires for analysis, representing a response rate of 42.7%. Findings indicate green strategic intent significantly influences three components of intellectual capital: human, relational, and organizational capital. Three components of intellectual capital significantly influence green process innovation. A green strategy can be successfully implemented by the implementation of intangible resources. Mere tangible resources are insufficient to gain superior green innovation performance; the interaction of these two resources (tangible and intangible) is complementary. Companies are adopting environmental strategies to mitigate the environment's harmful impact and meet stakeholders' demands. The study’s practical implications aim to improve companies’ environmental performance, specifically their green performance, through the implementation of green innovation.

This research elucidates the importance of Green HRM and Green Intellectual Capital in encouraging eco-friendly practices in the hospitality sector. Additionally, it highlights the value of Green Innovation as a tool to enhance the beneficial impacts of Green HRM and Green Intellectual Capital on environmental performance. A survey was conducted among 257 employees, and the collected data were analyzed using SPSS and Smart PLS. The findings reveal that GHRM and GIC significantly enhance environmental performance, demonstrating the positive effects of green practices on the environment. Furthermore, Green Innovation was found to mediate the relationship between GHRM, GIC, and environmental performance, underscoring the role of innovation in promoting environmental sustainability. This study investigates the impact of Green Human Resource Management (GHRM) and Green Intellectual Capital (GIC) on the environmental performance of firms in the Pakistani hotel industry, focusing on the mediating role of Green Innovation. These results highlight the importance of integrating green practices into HRM and intellectual capital management, as well as the value of innovation in amplifying these efforts. The study’s implications are crucial for hospitality businesses, as they aim to implement sustainable strategies in an increasingly environmentally conscious market.

Background: Sustainability in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) which engage heavily in manufacturing provides them with an essential platform for implementing environmental strategy, which is aimed at reducing environmental damage and promoting environmental protection. This study aims to examine the impact of the reduction in resource use, the greening of processes and products on environmental strategy and the mediating role of green employee behaviour. Methods: Primary data gathered with the help of questionnaires from employees of SMEs manufacturing in developing countries, Pakistan. The research gathered data from 211 participants by applying a pre-tested instrumental questionnaire and structural equation modelling (SEM) SmartPLS version 3 was used for data analysis. Results: The results confirmed all direct effects, including a reduction in resource use, the greening of processes and products and green employee behaviour of environmental strategies in small and medium manufacturing firms. Also, confirmed partial mediation effect of green employee behavior between greening of processes and products and environmental strategy. Conclusion: The current study clearly showed the need for programs and infrastructures that support resource reduction and greening businesses in SMEs. Companies’ implementation of green processes and technologies allows SMEs to take an environmentally responsible stand and become part of the movement toward sustainability. The research stresses the importance of green employee conduct as a mediator, the central point being the individual employee being engaged and aware of the subject and willing to participate in environmentally friendly practices. Therefore, small and medium enterprises should enlighten their staff to practice green behaviour, give them what they need and empower them to be change drivers that will trigger sustainability throughout the organisations.

The advent of COVID-19 triggered widespread disruptions globally, adversely affecting businesses and resulting in financial challenges and a decline in overall performance. This unparalleled public health emergency has resulted in significant disturbances within the sustainable supply chain and posed a risk to human survival. In view of these considerations, this investigation aims to evaluate the effect of COVID-19 on Sustainable Supply Chain Performance (SSCP) along with its influence on leadership capability (LC), knowledge sharing capability (KSC), strategic management capability (SMC), and moderating organizational commitment (OC) in Pakistan. To examine the proposed hypotheses, data were collected from Pakistani enterprises actively involved in the supply chain and supply chain departments of manufacturing firms. Subsequently, comprehensive analyses were conducted using structural equation modeling to derive meaningful insights. According to the empirical outcomes, the pandemic had a negative influence on SSCP in Pakistan, but LC, KSC, and SMC helped mitigate these disruptions. In addition, LC, KSC, and SMC successfully mediated the relationship between COVID-19 and SSCP, moderating the role of OC. This study contributes significantly to the literature by incorporating resource-based view (RBV), dynamic capability view (DCV), and knowledge-based view (KBV) theories to analyze and understand LC, KSC, and SMC. Moreover, to mitigate the interruptions resulting from pandemic in Supply Chain (SC) operations and enhance profitability amidst such unprecedented circumstances, the model explained in this study can be a valuable tool for SC and logistics management specialists.

This study investigates the potential of developing a maritime tourism project within the blue economy of Pakistan and explores the factors influencing blue growth and maritime tourism. A quantitative research approach has been adopted. The research gathered primary data from diverse experts and stakeholders within the maritime sector and related industries. The study’s target population comprised on various entities involved in these sectors. A sample of around 250 individuals was selected using a convenient sampling technique. The collected data underwent analysis using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) and the Partial Least Square (PLS) method. This approach was chosen to explore and understand the intricate relationships between variables in the context of the maritime industry. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) techniques were then employed to scrutinize the data further, allowing for a comprehensive examination of the interconnections among the variables identified in the study. This robust methodological approach enhances the study’s credibility and provides valuable insights into the dynamics of the maritime sector and its associated industries. The findings indicate that a balanced approach, valuing business sustainability, top management support, and enabling innovation structures positively impact blue growth. Additionally, uncertainty avoidance and promoting short-term goals have an appositive impact on the blue economy. Moreover, two potential barriers, Functional strategy, and weak competency, do not significantly affect the blue economy. This study lays the foundation for further exploration and implementation of strategies that promote sustainable growth and development in Pakistan’s blue economy. By integrating the insights gained from this study into policy and decision-making processes, stakeholders can work together to create a vibrant and sustainable maritime tourism sector that benefits both local communities and the environment.

There has been an increase in ethical misconduct among employees of service organizations which has fostered the need for awareness about such ethical practices that may promote employees’ constructive behaviors. The current study aims to extend the work on Islamic work ethics by studying its impact on influencing employee voice behavior through the underlying link of employee felt obligation for constructive change. It is proposed that employee sanctification may further serve as a boundary condition and enhance the positive relationship between Islamic work ethics and felt obligation for constructive change. Data (n = 343) felt obligation for constructive change, and both dimensions of voice behavior were collected from employees working in the health sector of Pakistan in three-time lags through questionnaires. Results of the study supported the mediation of felt obligation for constructive change between Islamic work ethics and employee voice behavior. Employee sanctification moderates the relationship between Islamic work ethics and felt obligation for constructive change. The findings of the study provide theoretical and practical implications. Limitations of the research and future directions have also been discussed.

Objectives: The objective of this study was to examine the impact of organizational green culture (OGC) on green innovation (GI) and sustainable entrepreneurship practices (SEP), which collectively enhance green performance (GP) in Pakistani food chain sector small and medium enterprises (SMEs). This research investigates how green innovation and sustainable entrepreneurship practices mediate each other towards achieving better green performance. Method: The authors chose deductive quantitative research along with Google Forms-based online surveys to gather data from 239 SMEs using convenience sampling. Structural equation modeling through SmartPLS detected all relationship effects between constructs within the research model. Findings: The study confirms that organizational green culture leads to increased GI and SEP, which in turn contributes to enhanced GP, while SEP operates as the essential mediator between OGC and GP in establishing how cultural values become sustainable practices and environmental improvements. The research merges OGC and innovation aspects with sustainability practices and demonstrates their effects on SMEs through empirical research. Novelty: The research uncovers SEP as a key connection between green culture and performance, which provides business solutions for SMEs that want to merge cultural elements with innovative approaches for sustainability. The research explores green entrepreneurship within emerging markets by demonstrating that developing an organizational green culture leads to creative processes that create sustainable outcomes that enhance environmental results. The paper makes an exceptional contribution by examining two distinct mediators: green innovation and sustainable entrepreneurship practices.

Background: This study aims to empirically test a comprehensive interrelationship between green supply chain management (GSCM), green technology innovation (GTI), waste management (WM), big data analytics capability powered by artificial intelligence (BDAC-AI), and their collective impact on sustainable performance (SP) in organizational contexts. Methods: This study was conducted in Pakistan’s food processing sector. The respondents included 495 managers working in the food processing industry. A structural equation modelling (SEM) approach is used to examine direct and indirect relationships between the variables. The originality of this study lies in integration of the technology acceptance model (TAM) and dynamic capability theory (DCT) to understand sustainable practices in the context of the provided model. Results: This study highlights that GSCM, GTI, WM, and BDAC-AI have positive, strong, and direct impacts on SP. Furthermore, GTI and WM only partially mediate the link between GSCM and SP, whereas the two moderate the link. In addition, BDAC-AI had a moderating effect on the relationship between GTI and SP. This study has managerial implications, including strategies that involve the use of theoretical frameworks for technological acceptance and dynamic capabilities to support sustainable initiatives. However, it is worth noting that the findings provide a practical contingency for managers and businesses interested in implementing green studies effectively, improving technologies, and strengthening sustainable performance capabilities. Conclusions: The study extends the literature by establishing a model for operationalizing GSCM in the food processing sector. Furthermore, it adds value in that it first integrates TAM and DCT to explain sustainable operations and their impact on organizations. Furthermore, it extends the existing literature by establishing a relationship between GSCM and SC. It offers a model through which GSCM can be operationalized in the context of the FS sector.
