Methods for improving the mid-frequency acoustic simulation of a lightly damped plate

The constantly evolving customer demands in the automotive industry necessitates vehicle manufacturers to perform ever more accurate acoustic simulations. Acoustic simulations especially in the mid-frequency range (400 Hz - 1000 Hz) pose particular challenges: statistical methods lack the necessary modal density for accuracy, while Finite Element Methods (FEM) have difficulty accounting for statistical effects. In order to resolve the conflict that FEM solvers face, an academic case is investigated. A flat plate of 650x 750 mm in free-free condition is examined as a low-complexity platform to investigate the sensitivity of FEM simulation results to parameters, such as the value of structural damping, the frequency dependency of structural damping as well as the variations in the plate thickness due to manufacturing tolerances. FEM simulations were performed using ESI VPS and compared to measurements. Results show that slight variations in plate thickness and Young`s modulus can have significant impact on the frequency response. Results have shown that a 0.5% variation in the thickness already has a pronounced effect on frequency response peak locations, especially between 600 and 1000 Hz. Beside this, the paper provides novel results on evaluating the effects of frequency dependency of structural damping on the results.

Design of acoustic cavity test apparatus for validation of mid-frequency response of a plate-cavity system

The mid-frequency range acoustic response between 400-1000 Hz has gained particular interest in the automotive industry recently. Simulation of this region is challenging due to the non-negligible statistical effects, especially when acoustic trim is applied. In order to be able to investigate the effect of these materials in the presence of an air cavity, this paper describes the design methodology behind the design and manufacturing of two test apparatuses that include an air cavity. The apparatuses were designed to serve as a validation tool for Finite Element Method (FEM) and Statistical Energy Analysis (SEA) simulations, which meant that an optimal size had to be found based on the number of fluid modes in the cavity. Two types of plate-cavity apparatuses have been designed: one with “rigid walls” and one with “soft walls”. In the “rigid wall” cavity, the walls are made out of concrete since these boundary conditions can be perfectly represented in simulations. In the “soft wall” cavity, the walls are made of steel plates and this allows validation of coupling loss simulations between multiple structural subsystems as well as an air cavity. Details of the joining methods, geometries, material selections are elaborated to fully describe the theoretical and practical implications of the designs.

Renewable energy and the macroeconomic space in India: A Bayesian VAR approach

India's rapid rise as a global renewable energy producer is occurring alongside a significant economic transformation. The present study explores the relationship between renewable energy production (REN) and key economic drivers, namely, Gross Domestic Product (GDP), foreign direct investment (FDI), trade openness, patents, oil production, and public-private participation in energy over the period from 1990 to 2021. Using a Bayesian Vector Autoregression (BVAR) framework, we uncover nonlinear and time-varying effects: patents stimulate renewable output but with diminishing returns, FDI consistently suppresses growth in renewables, GDP exhibits an inverted U-shaped relationship, and trade openness follows a U-shaped trajectory. Oil production initially supports but later crowds out renewable generation, while private investment shows delayed positive effects after an initial drag. Variance decomposition highlights a shift from self-driven dynamics in the short run toward macroeconomic and structural determinants in the long run, with GDP, FDI, and R&D increasingly explaining variation in REN over time. The findings posit that renewable energy in India is both a driver and a product of wider economic shifts, calling for policies that synchronise innovation, trade, finance, and energy governance to ensure a resilient low-carbon transition.

The article examines the components contributing to the tourist appeal of cultural sites in the Republic of Kazakhstan, exploring the intricate relationship between their attractiveness and cultural significance. This is vital for promoting sustainable tourism, fostering cultural exchange, and preserving shared cultural heritage for future generations. Understanding what makes a place attractive to tourists is crucial for destination marketing, sustainable tourism planning, and revenue generation. The study was conducted in the context of the search for ways to popularize cultural heritage in domestic tourism. Fifteen distinct variables were identified to delineate the allure of these sites, encompassing criteria such as historical significance, aesthetic and architectural value, integration of a cultural object with the natural landscape and environment, involvement of the local community in the promotion and preservation of cultural heritage, among others. A comprehensive questionnaire was devised based on these variables, serving as the foundation for a survey where participants rated the significance of each variable on a 5-point scale. The survey garnered responses from 1,728 residents spanning all regions of Kazakhstan. Through correlation analysis, the acquired ratings were scrutinized, unveiling interconnections among variables and elucidating the primary factors shaping the attractiveness of cultural sites, namely safety and security at the site, the historical significance, accessibility for people with special needs, aesthetic and architectural value, as well as the availability of amenities such as restrooms, information centers, and guided tours.

Nowadays it is a frequent problem that, the infrastructure-development of land transportation comes up against space limits in many cases, moreover the growth of traffic doesn't slack up. This is particularly typical for urban traffic, effecting traffic jams, lags; not to mention the problem of air pollution. In this case the requirements of sustainable development can be satisfied by the optimization of the existing infrastructure. This procedure always begins by observing, collecting and processing information, followed by model creation. In the next step the identified model will help us to analyze even the most extreme situations through different simulation environments and to prepare different traffic analyses. © 2011 IEEE.

The use of biostimulant microalgae to influence the growth and development of ornamental plants

The article discusses the use of biostimulant microalgae, known for their bioactive compounds. Understanding the positive impacts of biostimulants is essential for future applications. Research conducted in the Department of Plant Sciences at the Széchenyi István University has revealed that algae produce plant hormones and possess beneficial properties that influence the water, soil and plant systems. The effects of microalgae on various ornamental plants are being studied with a focus on improving root and general plant development. The methodology involves testing different algae extracts in ornamental plants in controlled environments. Data collection includes measuring plant height, leaf and bud numbers, chlorophyll content and other plant parameters through laboratory and destructive tests. The results indicate positive changes in plant parameters after treatments with biostimulant microalgae. In conclusion, biostimulant microalgae offer a promising and eco-friendly alternative to synthetic chemicals in the cultivation of ornamental plants. Continued research and innovation in this field is crucial to realise the full potential of biostimulants in sustainable agriculture.

Princes of Igboland: inchoate feudalization, feudal masculinity and postcolonial patriarchy in Ifeoma Okoye’s radical feminist narratives

Space for emancipatory projects during military rule in Nigeria shrinks considerably (1983–1999, with short interruptions). This affects anti-feudalist initiatives and radical feminist movements equally. Ifeoma Okoye, the preeminent socialist-feminist writer of Igboland, publishes novels and short stories in these years that deal with women’s lives and that attack post-colonial patriarchy. Her novel Men Without Ears also uncovers the mechanisms by which processes of feudalization come to characterize ethnic Igbo regions that hitherto had had no traditional rulers. Okoye in the novel weaves a narrative around a particularly toxic kind of masculinity, feudal masculinity, which imprints the newly instituted faux Igbo royal and faux Igbo feudatory. In Okoye’s world, Nigerian mainstream academic feminists, criminal uncles who try to disinherit orphans, and Igbo royalty with invented ranks but with very real thugs in their employ, all represent the comprador class that directs the developmental failure of Nigeria under military rule and beyond.

Learning the optimal parameter of the Hamacher t-norm applied for fuzzy-rule-based model extraction

Mamdani-type inference systems with trapezoidal-shaped fuzzy membership functions play a crucial role in a wide variety of engineering systems, including real-time control, transportation and logistics, network management, etc. The automatic identification or construction of such fuzzy systems input output data is one of the key problems in modeling. In the past years, the authors have investigated several different fuzzy t-norms, among others, algebraic and trigonometric ones, and the Hamacher product by substituting the standard "min" t-norm operation, in order to achieve better model fitting. In the present paper, the focus is on examining the general parametric Hamacher t-norm, where the free parameter quite essentially influences the quality of modeling and the learning capability of the model identification system. Based on a wide scope of simulation experiments, a quasi-optimal interval for the value of the Hamacher operator is proposed. © 2013 Springer-Verlag London.

Measuring the Sustainable Rural Development: A Bibliometric Survey

Sustainable rural development is important as the rural areas provide important contributions to both agrifood production and urban economies. The multi-dimensionality of the issue calls for inclusion of multiple measures (indicators) in the relevant analysis. This paper embarks on bibliometric analysis to identify the key trends in the measurement of sustainable rural development. The results suggest that sustainable rural development is related to such issues as economic development, health, demographics, environmental situation circularity, income, and diversification. These indicators are also dependent on the level of aggregation (e.g., community, municipality, country). The data sources relevant to the measures of the sustainable rural development are discussed in the case of the European Union. The results may also guide researchers and policy makers in other regions when establishing indicator systems for measurement of the sustainable rural development.
