Leveraging the Internet of Things and blockchain technology in Supply Chain Management

Modern supply chains have evolved into highly complex value networks and turned into a vital source of competitive advantage. However, it has become increasingly challenging to verify the source of raw materials and maintain visibility of products and merchandise while they are moving through the value chain network. The application of the Internet of Things (IoT) can help companies to observe, track, and monitor products, activities, and processes within their respective value chain networks. Other applications of IoT include product monitoring to optimize operations in warehousing, manufacturing, and transportation. In combination with IoT, Blockchain technology can enable a broad range of different application scenarios to enhance value chain transparency and to increase B2B trust. When combined, IoT and Blockchain technology have the potential to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of modern supply chains. The contribution of this paper is twofold. First, we illustrate how the deployment of Blockchain technology in combination with IoT infrastructure can streamline and benefit modern supply chains and enhance value chain networks. Second, we derive six research propositions outlining how Blockchain technology can impact key features of the IoT (i.e., scalability, security, immutability and auditing, information flows, traceability and interoperability, quality) and thus lay the foundation for future research projects.

A Novel Motor Modelling Method for Reluctance Motor Electric Vehicle Drive Systems

The field of electric vehicles is one of the most popular research topics today. These vehicles require highly efficient and cost-competitive drive system solutions due to the increasing competition. The reluctance motor drive systems are excellent candidates for fulfilling these requirements However, the controlling of these drive systems is difficult as they represent a heavily nonlinear behavior due to the varying stator inductances. The stator inductances are changing both in the function of the stator currents- and that of the rotor position. This phenomenon makes it necessary to apply advanced modelling solutions that provide a more precise motor model for the torque control algorithm. This paper presents a novel motor modeling method for the reluctance motor drive systems. A new type of inductance matrix is derived, which is a critical part of the motor model. This inductance matrix is used to define new relationships for the electromagnetic torque and the phase voltages of the machine for a given stator current, leading to a novel motor model. This new motor model can serve as an input for the torque control algorithm research and development activities.

Hydrological study of the Aggtelek karst springs

Increased population growth and changing environmental conditions have focused attention on sustainability of karst spring flow. In Hungary, the quality of karst springs is acceptable for drinking water supply; the only treatment it needs is the disinfection. Aggtelek is one of the best-studied karst regions; a hydrologic monitoring network was built and operated at the Jósvafo Research Station for about 50 years. The long-term data for the 15 major karst springs, rainfall, and temperature was available for analyses. This paper presents a methodology to estimate karst spring recharge, which can then be adapted to predict karst spring flow in lessstudied areas.

A demographic study of natural heritage visitation intentions in tourism in Győr-Moson-Sopron County, in Hungary

At the beginning of the 21st century, sustainability is today’s most important issue, but it is achieved only in those areas where there is environmental awareness. Natural heritage is a part of heritage tourism in terms of the grouping of attraction types. The conceptualization of heritage and cultural heritage itself is not uniform in the national and domestic literature, with some considering heritage tourism to be synonymous with cultural tourism and others interpreting it as a connotation. This study aims to present the natural heritage of Győr-Moson-Sopron County (Hungary). Quantitative research was used to analyze the topic (N = 666), the sample is not representative and the selection of respondents was random. Data were collected between 1 September 2023 and 31 October 2023 using electronic questionnaires shared on Google Drive. Data were processed using SPSS 25.0 and MS Office Excel in addition to the descriptive statistical data (modus, median, standard deviation), correlation, and cross-tabulation analyses. In the framework of quantitative research, respondents’ travel willingness to visit tourist attractions, their specific expenditures, and their intention to participate in various events were conducted. The following questions are addressed in the study, whether all three national parks (Fertő-Hanság, Pannontáj-Sokoróand Szigetköz) are equally popular among tourists, whether the educational level of tourists influences the visitation of Lake Fertő, whether the respondents’ place of residence and the Danube floodplain influence the visitation of the lake and whether the age of the respondents influences the visitation of the 700-year-old oak in Hédervár. The significant finding of the study is that the mean of non-young people’s visitation is higher than that of young people in all three national parks.

Microinjection based zebrafish embryo test for the detection of estrogenic substances in slurry based irrigation water and its combined application with yeast estrogen screen

Waste from livestock farms, including manure, is a significant source of estrogenic pollutants in the environment. These wastes have complex matrices, necessitating the implementation of in vivo and in vitro tests in order to investigate their estrogenic effects. However, most current in vivo methods are limited by the toxic effect of livestock waste due to their high concentrations of organic matter. Here we propose a novel in vivo microinjection method which is able to avoid this limitation. In this study, the estrogen content of slurry-based irrigation water extracts from dairy cattle farms was examined using a classical in vitro and the newly developed in vivo method. The limitations of the in vitro system, with its absence of endogenous steroid hormone receptors and subsequent lack of elucidating complex interactions involving the estrogen receptor (ER), are complemented by the in vivo fish test, which allows for a more complete assessment of estrogenicity and toxicity to vertebrate animals. In vitro screenings were performed with the ISO 19040–1:2018 Yeast Estrogen Screen (YES). The YES test showed estrogenic activity in all 32 tested samples, which ranged from 5 to 50518 ng/L in EEQ (E2-Estradiol equivalents). The in vivo microinjection method was developed using a Tg(vtg1:mCherry) transgenic zebrafish embryo model. This model is able to eliminate secondary symptoms of hypoxia that may occur during normal aqueous exposure to high organic matter extracts. Using the microinjection method, a total of 12 samples, out of the 32 samples examined, presented no observable estrogenic effects in fish embryos based on integrated density values. In samples where the fish test showed no estrogenic effect, the liver of the larvae was significantly damaged due to sample toxicity. Our results clearly show that the combination of these methods provides a highly effective screening tool for samples containing high concentrations of organic matter.

For the first phase of the modelling, the authors created a graph and a connection matrix of six system components based on the literature. The RWMS differs from conventional waste management methods in that it involves stakeholders in decision-making; focuses on waste prevention and resource exploration; takes into account interactions with other systems and seeks to promote integration between different scales of residence (city, region, and region). ‘Technology’ in this sense includes both ‘hardware’ and ‘software’ (van de Klundert and Anschutz [10]). One of the pillars of the sustainability of the system is the involvement of stakeholders, because it leads to a sense of responsibility for the success of the system, at least when it serves the political and economic interests of the parties. At the beginning of this research, the authors examined the driving forces and sustainability conditions of the RWMS and identified the main aspects based on the literature, which will form the starting FCM model.

Social media analytics (SMA) practices are playing a vital role in improving online store performance by creating insights about customer preferences, trends, and behaviors. Social media analytics (SMA) practices are a critical contributor to boost online store performance by creating insights on customer preferences, trends and behaviors. The effective utilization of such analytics helps online retailers to adjust their marketing strategies, increase customer engagement, and ultimately boost their sales. This study examines the dynamic link between SMA and customer engagement in online retail firms with special focus on the moderating role of customer voice (promotive and prohibitive) in determining the performance outcomes. Specifically, it examines the impact of consumers' promotive and prohibitive voices on the relationship between customer engagement and online store performance. Using a time-lagged study and data obtained from 407 online stores across three survey waves, the findings show there is a strong positive relationship between SMA and customer engagement. In addition, both promotive and prohibitive customer voice are found to positively moderate the engagement-performance relationship, increasing the effect of engagement on operational outcomes. The study concludes with implications and future research directions.

Regularization techniques for the method of fundamental solutions

A special regularization method based on higher-order partial differential equations is presented. Instead of using the fundamental solution of the original partial differential operator with source points located outside of the domain, the original second-order partial differential equation is approximated by a higher-order one, the fundamental solution of which is continuous at the origin. This allows the use of the method of fundamental solutions (MFS) for the approximate problem. Due to the continuity of the modified operator, the source points and the boundary collocation points are allowed to coincide, which makes the solution process simpler. This regularization technique is generalized to various problems and combined with the extremely efficient quadtree-based multigrid methods. Approximation theorems and numerical experiences are also presented. © 2013 World Scientific Publishing Company.

Stability analysis and design of a class of MIMO fuzzy control systems

This paper presents a new stability analysis method dedicated to a class of fuzzy control systems (FCSs) controlling multi input-multi output (MIMO) nonlinear processes by means of Takagi-Sugeno-Kang fuzzy logic controllers (FLCs). The stability analysis of the FCSs is carried out using LaSalle's global invariant set theorem by the separate stability analysis of each fuzzy rule in MIMO fuzzy control systems. Therefore the complexity of the stability analysis is reduced and the adding of new fuzzy rules can be conducted easily; this modification of FLC structure requires the fulfillment of only one of the conditions of the stability analysis theorem suggested in this paper. Another advantage of the stability analysis approach proposed in this paper is that the derivative of the Lyapunov function candidate must be only negative semi-definite in comparison with Lyapunov's stability theorem where it must be negative definite. The conservativeness of stability conditions is thus reduced, and this enables the convenient design of FLCs. The applicability and efficiency of the theoretical results are illustrated by numerical simulations for a representative MIMO process which deals with the level control in a three spherical tank system. © 2013-IOS Press and the authors.
