Thermodynamic tests with nano-ceramic thermal insulation coatings

From nanotechnology-based thermal insulation materials nano-ceramic thermal insulation coatings are generally considered to be the most critical because of contradictory technical data that could be founded in special literature. Complete agreement had not been already found about the mechanism how does their insulating effect take. In the Laboratory of Building Materials and Building Physics at Széchenyi István University (Gyo′r, Hungary) several thermodynamic tests were made in order to find out thermodynamic process inside this material. Several building structures with different order of layers were tested with heat flow meter. Results showed that convective heat transfer coefficient cannot be taken account in usual way using this material as thermal insulation.

Optimizing Computer Engineering Problems Using CODAS Method with Bipolar Complex Fuzzy Soft Frank Aggregation Operators

In this article, we start by explaining why Bipolar Complex Fuzzy Soft Set (BCFSS) is better than existing approaches by highlighting its abilities to enhance Computer Engineering (CpE) by removing ambiguity more effectively than Fuzzy Set (FS), Fuzzy Soft Set (FSS), Complex Fuzzy Soft Set (CFSS), Bipolar Fuzzy Set (BFS), Bipolar Fuzzy Soft Set (BFSS), and Bipolar Complex Fuzzy Set (BCFS). This will improve effectiveness as well as clarity. Make sure that those new to fuzzy sets properly understand the key issue in CpE. Reveal first the BCFSS’s new strategy and then detail how it differs from existing approaches, pointing out the overlooked features of previous approaches that justified your research. Enhance the preparation concept link by explaining how BCFSS enhances CpE Decision-Making (DM) in situations when conventional models are inadequate when paired with Frank Aggregation Operator (AO) (Frank Arithmetic Aggregation Operator (FAAO) and Frank Geometric Aggregation Operator (FGAO)). Moreover, keeping in mind the effectiveness of the “Combinative Distance-based Assessment (CODAS) method” we developed this method in the framework of BCFSSs and used this method and develop AOs to solve some decision-making problems related to CpE. Our sentence structure should also be refined to provide smooth transitions between ideas and to enhance readability and navigation. Lastly, provide comparison studies that highlight the improvement’s superiority over current methods to show that it is feasible.

Blockchain as a driver for smart city development: Application fields and a comprehensive research agenda

The term “Smart City” denotes a comprehensive concept to alleviate pending problems of modern urban areas which have developed into an important work field for practitioners and scholars alike. However, the question remains as to how cities can become “smart”. The application of information technology is generally considered a key driver in the “smartization” of cities. Detailed frameworks and procedures are therefore needed to guide, operationalize, and measure the implementation process as well as the impact of the respective technologies. In this paper, we discuss blockchain technology, a novel driver of technological transformation that comprises a multitude of underlying technologies and protocols, and its potential impact on smart cities. We specifically address the question of how blockchain technology may benefit the development of urban areas. Based on a comprehensive literature review, we present a framework and research propositions. We identify nine application fields of blockchain technology in the smartization of cities: (1) healthcare, (2) logistics and supply chains, (3) mobility, (4) energy, (5) administration and services, (6) e-voting, (7) factory, (8) home and (9) education. We discuss current developments in these fields, illustrate how they are affected by blockchain technology and derive propositions to guide future research endeavors.

Sustainable 3D-Printing Filaments and their Applications

The growing demand for sustainable materials has driven research into 3D printing technologies, particularly those focused on environmentally friendly filaments such as Polylactic Acid (PLA) and its composites. This study explores the mechanical performance and applications of four distinct PLA-based materials: conventional PLA, PLA Advanced PRO, Glass Reinforced PLA, and Foam PLA. Through a combination of tensile testing and Digital Image Correlation (DIC) analysis, the research highlights the displacement behavior and internal structural evolution of these materials under load-bearing conditions. Glass Reinforced PLA demonstrated the highest performance, showing a 10-15 % increase in displacement capacity compared to conventional PLA, while PLA Advanced PRO exhibited a 10 % improvement, and Foam PLA showed a modest 3-5 % enhancement. Infill density significantly impacted layer adhesion, especially for Glass Reinforced PLA, where an infill density above 30 % greatly enhanced structural integrity. This study not only underscores sustainable filaments' environmental and mechanical benefits but also emphasizes their potential as viable alternatives for complex, load-bearing applications in various industries. The findings contribute to the ongoing development of greener, high-performance 3D printing materials and suggest avenues for future research to optimize the balance between sustainability and material performance.

Monitoring of embankment construction processes

Nowadays more and more engineering structures are constructed on soft soils of low strength. High compressibility, low permeability and liability to secondary compression of these soils can result in long-term settlements and a menace with critical situations when the construction deadlines are tough. To cope with these problems several technologies have recently been developed in the embankment construction practice. Staged construction, over-filling, vertical drainage, stone columns, dynamic compaction - all of them often combined successfully with geosynthetics - are preferred to the previously predominant technology of soil replacement. Nevertheless, common design methods often do not balance properly the structural modeling, computation, economical and construction aspects. This is why a correct design may become a subject of reconsideration and modification in specific circumstances. There remains a room for innovative approaches, when conventional solutions are used. Two examples seem to prove that construction combined with monitoring may tum out to be good compromises. © 2007 Akadémiai Kiadó.

Mapping the post-communist class structure findings from a new multidimensional Hungarian class survey

In this article, we define a schema for the class structure of Hungary, in which we consider a case for an Eastern-European capitalist system emerging from post-communist societies. Our schema is based on the findings of the Hungarian Class Survey, 2014. Using six measures of Bourdieusian economic, cultural, and social capital and applying the methodology of latent class analysis (LCA), we have constructed a model of eight LCA-based classes: upper class, cultural middle class, affluent middle class, young urban consumers, network-embedded rural workers, young drifters, middle-aged deprived, and the precariat. Hungarian society seems to be quite hierarchical but is also fragmented within the upper and lower strata. Status inconsistency in terms of possessing economic, cultural, and social capital is strongly present even for the middle classes. There is a clear divide in our class model between the upper four and the lower four classes, in terms of vertical and nonvertical aspects of social stratification. We also compare our new multidimensional class typology to the traditional occupation-based one and demonstrate its added value for class analysis in Hungary.

Trophic evolution in ornithopod dinosaurs revealed by dental wear

Ornithopod dinosaurs evolved numerous craniodental innovations related to herbivory. Nonetheless, the relationship between occlusion, tooth wear rate, and tooth replacement rate has been neglected. Here, we reconstruct tooth wear rates by measuring tooth replacement rates and tooth wear volumes, and document their dental microwear. We demonstrate that total tooth volume and rates of tooth wear increased steadily during ornithopod evolution, with deeply-nested taxa wearing up to 3360 mm3 of tooth volume/day. Increased wear resulted in asymmetric tooth crown formation with uneven von Ebner line increment width by the Late Jurassic, and in faster tooth replacement rates in multiple lineages by the mid-Cretaceous. Microwear displays a contrasting pattern, with decreasing complexity and pit percentages in deeply-nested and later-occurring taxa. We hypothesize that early ornithopods were browsers and/or frugivores but deeply nested iguanodontians were bulk-feeders, eating tougher, less nutritious plants; these trends correlate with increasing body mass and longer gut passage times.

In defense of moral liberalism

Though it is much maligned, liberalism remains a vital component of any viable political and social condition. This claim can be defended, though, only once the confusions concerning the meanings of liberalism are resolved. This can be done by considering the primary contemporary challenges to liberalism, of which there are five: populist nationalism, authoritarianism, elitism, traditionalism, and moral absolutism. Each of these, though in differing ways and some more than others, are sources of illiberalism. To appreciate the meaning and import of what is here called moral liberalism, it is valuable to clarify the nature of the challenges to it and the reasons we have to prefer moral liberalism over any of its illiberal alternatives. In the end, moral liberalism may serve as a viable grounding for contemporary societies and states only in so far as it rests, not on commonly held ideas or consensus, but on the recognition of the many interests that members of groups and societies hold in common.
