A Systematic Analysis of Neural Networks, Fuzzy Logic and Genetic Algorithms in Tumor Classification

This study explores existing research on neural networks, fuzzy logic-based models, and genetic algorithms applied to brain tumor classification. A systematic review of 53 studies was conducted following PRISMA guidelines, covering search strategy, selection criteria, quality assessment, and data extraction. Articles were collected from three scientific databases: Web of Science, Scopus, and IEEE. The review primarily focuses on practical contributions, with most studies emphasizing applications over conceptual insights. Key methods in the field demonstrate significant impact and innovation. Commonly used training and testing mechanisms include dataset splitting, augmentation, and validation techniques, highlighting their widespread adoption for performance evaluation. The analysis of evaluation metrics shows that accuracy and the DICE score are the most frequently used, alongside sensitivity, specificity, recall, and other domain-specific measures. The variety of metrics underscores the need for tailored approaches based on dataset characteristics and research objectives. By highlighting trends, challenges, and research gaps, this review provides actionable insights for advancing BTC research. It offers a comprehensive overview of techniques and evaluation methods to guide future developments in this critical domain.

Advantages and limitations of using foamed bitumen

Description:

Foamed asphalt refers to a bituminous mixture of road-building aggregates and foamed bitumen, produced by a cold mix process. There are a lot of related issue that has not been sufficiently investigated so far. It is worthwhile to overview the main theoretical and practical results in the field in several countries including those of the authors of the paper. It is clear that the foamed asphalt is usually characterized by high quality and reasonable cost, can be used in cold road pavement rehabilitation, in addition to it the technique is environ-mentally friendly preserving natural resources. Using foamed bitumen reduces the emissions of carbon dioxide and gases resulting from combustion, especially when it is used as a cold rehabilitation binder and mixed with re-claimed asphalt pavement materials.

ANALYTICAL APPROACHES TO DESCRIBE WEAR IN TOTAL KNEE REPLACEMENTS: POTENTIALS AND LIMITATIONS

Various types of wear mechanisms (three-body wear, delamination, pitting, abrasion, etc.) can occur between the polymer-metal interface of total knee arthroplasties. In most cases, the mechanism of these types of wear has only been experimentally verified and described. It must be noted that analytical description is not yet available for the majority of wear types. An exception among these types is abrasive wear, for which a number of analytical studies have been developed. This kind of wear can be approximated mathematically by the so-called Archard equation. It should be noted that, due to the complex motion of the knee joint, the original Archard equation must be extended by several parameters in order to adequately describe the wear process. Such parameters are the cross shear ratio, the coefficient of friction or the slide-roll ratio. The present study gives a broad overview of the currently available analytical wear models and also provides further suggestions on how to bring these models closer to reality.

Fuzzy cognitive maps (FCMs) are a very convenient and simple tool for modeling complex systems. They are popular due to their simplicity and user friendliness. However, according to [1], human experts are subjective and can handle only relatively simple networks therefore there is an urgent need to develop methods for automated generation of FCM models. The present research deals with the methodology of FCMs in combination with the Bacterial Evolutionary Algorithm (BEA). The method of FCMs using BEA seems to be suitable to model such complex mechanisms as integrated municipal waste management (IMWM) systems. This paper is an attempt to assess the sustainability of the IMWM system by investigating the FCM methodology based on the BEA with a holistic approach. As a result, the best scenario to an IMWM system can be assigned. © 2013 IEEE.

Antenna parameters (e.g. input impedance, radiation pattern) can be measured in Full Anechoic Chambers (FAC). The simulated input impedance is depending on the applied feed model. The most frequently used models are the current probe model, the voltage gap generator, the magnetic frill generator and the waveguide port which are presented in this paper focusing on a simple example, a monopole antenna situated above a ground plane. The Finite Element Method (FEM) has been used in the numerical field analysis.

Analysis of the Effect of Mixed Eccentricity Fault on Controlled Induction Machines via Finite Element Method

Description:

The eccentricity in induction machines is a geometrical fault when the axis of rotation deviates from the ideal. As a result, the air gap between the stator and the rotor varies. Since the eccentricity is caused by a geometric misalignment, finite element method is used to model the fault in this paper and the phenomenon is detected by spectral analysis of the stator currents. In addition, the effect of eccentricity on the controlled drive is also investigated by numerical simulations.

Car body deformation modeling plays a very important role in crash accident analyses, as well as in safe car body design. The determination of the energy absorbed by the deformation and the corresponding Energy Equivalent Speed can be of key importance, however their precise determination is a very difficult task. Although, using the results of crash tests, intelligent and soft methods offer an automatic way to model the crash process itself, as well as to determine the absorbed energy, the before-crash speed of the car, etc. In this paper a modeling technique and an intelligent expert system are introduced which together are able to follow the deformation process of car bodies in car crashes and to analyze the strength of the different parts without any human intervention thus significantly can contribute to the improvement of the modeling, (automatic) design, and safety of car bodies. © 2006 IEEE.

Integrated experimental design and nonlinear optimization to handle computationally expensive models under resource constraints

In many real-world applications of optimization, the underlying descriptive system model is defined by computationally expensive functions: simulation modules, numerical models and other "black box" model components are typical examples. In such cases, the model development and optimization team often has to rely on optimization carried out under severe resource constraints. To address this important issue, recently a Regularly Spaced Sampling (RSS) module has been added to the Lipschitz Global Optimizer (LGO) solver suite. RSS generates non-collapsing space filling designs, and produces corresponding solution estimates: this information is passed along to LGO for refinement within the given resource (function evaluation and/or runtime) limitations. Obviously, the quality of the solution obtained will essentially depend both on model instance difficulty and on the admissible computational effort. In spite of this general caveat, our results based on solving a selection of non-trivial global optimization test problems suggest that even a moderate amount of well-placed sampling effort enhanced by limited optimization can lead at least to reasonable or even to high quality results. Our numerical tests also indicate that LGO's overall efficiency is often increased by using RSS as a presolver, both in resource-constrained and in completed LGO runs. © 2012 Springer Science+Business Media, LLC.

Segmentation of a road vehicle vibration signal using multiple comparison procedures between paired samples

Segmentation of road vehicle vibration (RVV) signals can occur by the need to analyse or synthesise vibrations obtained in passenger cars or on the stowage of vans, trucks. A general and widely used measure to quantify RVV signals is its description via power spectral density (PSD). From a given PSD a Gaussian signal can be generated in a shaker testing laboratory. However, actual RVVs tend to have a non-Gaussian and nonstationary nature, which can be modelled as a composition of different segments, each with a different length and RMS content. For simulation purposes of nonstationary vibration signals, different approaches have been introduced yet each with its unique signal segmentation approaches. The current paper proposes a signal segmentation method implemented in the time-frequency domain in order to find segments within an RVV signal, where each segment has similarity in-between and is dissimilar to neighbouring segments. For this purpose, multiple comparison tests had been utilised between the Short-time Fourier transforms (STFT) applied on given fractions of an RVV. Different countermeasures had been applied against the Type I. error inflation.
