INVESTIGATING THE GLOBAL WARMING POTENTIAL OF ROOF STRUCTURES USING PARAMETRIC BIM METHOD

The sustainability of buildings is becoming increasingly important in today's world. Ever stricter environmental regulations encourage designers to select appropriate materials and products by examining multiple alternative solutions. This article presents an analysis of the global warming potential (GWP) of the roof structure of a residential building depending on the roof shape and angle. Three different roof types (flat roof, gable roof, and shed roof) were examined with the application of commonly used composite structures. The applied range of roof angles was between 20ºand 45ºin 5-degree increments for the gable and shed roofs, while 0ºwas used for the flat roof. The analysis was conducted using the Archicad-Grasshopper live connection, which enabled rapid examination of the GWP by dynamically tracking changes in geometry and roof angle. According to the results, the roof shape constructed with a steel beam slab and a gable roof made of solid wood had the smallest environmental impact in terms of the first phase of the life cycle.

Description:

The study focuses on the Visegrad Four countries, which form the core of Central Europe. The V4 countries share certain common characteristics that naturally lead them to cooperate. They have the unique potential to be more than just a formal cooperation of four states with shared values and similar histories. Environmental issues are, by their very nature non-local, so they transcend the territory of a single country and affect large regions, often on a global scale. The alliance of the four states that make up the Visegrad Group allows them to coordinate their actions within the EU and NATO. This study aims to map and analyse the environmental situation of the V4 countries and their management of disaster situations, paying attention to the cooperation, or lack of it, that applies in disaster situations between the V4 countries.

Vehicle in the Loop Testing of Traffic Sign Recognition Systems †

Description:

Modern passenger vehicles can indicate the speed limit for a given road section using GPS, cameras, or both. Sign recognition systems must comply with specified testing procedures before operation. Our goal is to create a cost-effective lab environment for vehicle-level tests of these systems. Image recognition can be tested with various traffic signs in a simulation video placed in front of the vehicle’s camera while it runs on a chassis dyno. We tested this environment with factory-built systems, displaying recognized signs on the dashboard. The simulation software allows unlimited signs, eliminating the need for long-distance driving or extensive test track setups. While the lab environment does not replace final public road testing, it is a cost-effective solution for the development and testing of traffic sign recognition systems.

Biomechanical Analysis of Gymnastics Movements Using Wearable Motion Capture Systems and Linear Sensors: A Case Study of the Kipping Bar Muscle-Up

Gymnastics moves are complex and varied, needing precise technique and body coordination, which traditional biomechanics methods struggle to capture in detail. This study aims to look at and judge how well new motion capture and analysis technology works in gymnastics biomechanics. This study picks the kipping bar muscle up move and uses the IMU-based Xsens system and the GymAware RS unit power test system to finely look at how athletes do the move in terms of body position, power, work done by the body, and main upper limb joint movements. The study tested 8 male elite collegiate gymnasts, collecting movement data with Xsens and power data with GymAware RS unit. Results show the kipping bar muscle up takes 1.42 seconds, with a 1.13-meter shift of the body's center and a peak speed of 3.40m/s. In terms of power, the peak output was 2772.96J/s, showing the need for explosive power and fast strength. Also, the total work done was 889.70J, showing the move's efficiency and energy level. This study shows that new motion capture and analysis tech is effective in capturing complex gymnastics moves. The use of these techs not only expands the ways biomechanics can be studied but also helps in making training better and improving how efficiently moves are done.

The Effect of Illumination on HSV Colour Segmentation for Ripe Tomatoes based on Machine Vision

In agriculture, computer vision and image processing are essential for monitoring crops and controlling robots and actuators. In this work, the detection of ripe tomato fruit was the main aim. During the tomato-ripping process, the green tomato turns to red in several color stages (Ambrus et al., 2024). While the chlorophyll concentration decreases, the lycopene concentration increases. The sugar and the acid increase parallel to lycopene. The RGB camera can capture the process but needs to convert HSV color space to identify the tomato. The successful identification depends on the direct illumination volume. The experiment contains 4 ripe tomatoes and 15 different artificial illumination levels. The measurements show that the results are similar to or constantly above 3,000 lx illumination. However, under 3,000 lx, the detected size of tomatoes looks smaller and smaller depending on the weakness of illumination. Around 1,600 lx, it is possible to measure only half of the real size of the tomato. It shows that using the right amount of light is crucial to precise measurement in HSV color space. This research highlights the critical importance of proper illumination in ensuring accurate image analysis for tasks like industrial tomato segmentation. It emphasizes the need for adaptable lighting solutions, particularly in varying weather conditions, and the balance between adequate light and energy efficiency.

Based on the available statistical data, most employees travel by car, which results in traffic jams, hurts the environment, and increases household expenditures. As a result of this phenomenon, our investigation aimed to present the global trends in urban mobility. It is also considered preliminary research of Hungarian transportation habits and trends by summarizing the standard fees of taxi service, parking, and maintaining a driving license. As our research methodology, we chose a systematic literature search and a summary of the available secondary data to present the main global trends characterizing urban mobility and the standards typical of Hungarian transport. The results enable the expansion of the research and provide an opportunity to learn about consumers’ attitudes at the national level.

Choices Based on the Self-Perception of University Applicants in their Decisions on Applying to Higher Education

This paper investigates the role of self-concept and perceptions of academic performance in shaping university students’ choice of educational institutions, as well as the factors that influence these decisions. Various empirical studies have examined this topic, identified key determinants and reflected the aspects and expectations that students prioritize when making decisions about their academic future. In this study, we utilized scientific databases to filter through thousands of papers, ultimately selecting 225 articles that were directly related to decision-making processes in education. Out of these, we have cited 60 publications that offer significant insights relevant to our research. Moreover, we identified 20 empirical studies that specifically analyse the factors that influence students’ decision-making processes, based on data gathered through questionnaires and interviews. To further explore students' career aspirations and understand the factors influencing their choices, we focus on several key variables. These include students' self-perception, self-confidence, and personal development. We also assess how external factors, such as socioeconomic conditions, family expectations, and educational environment, may impact these decisions. By examining these elements, we aim to uncover how such influences contribute to students' educational and professional trajectories. This study seeks to clarify how diverse influences, particularly those experienced during adolescence, shape individuals’ personal growth and career pathways. In addition, it aims to identify any gaps in existing research, especially with regard to international practices and trends, thereby contributing to the broader understanding of student decision-making in higher education.

Understanding Determining Factors: Purchasing Decisions

The paper aims to highlight the lack of usage of knowledge-based expert systems in purchasing decisions in the context of hybrid corporate reality. We use the transdisciplinary approach in our work, which is essential to examine the problem that occurs in the reality. While reviewing publications containing the keywords “Cognitive bias” and “Supplier selection”, we focused on the methods used. The examined methods in the pooled papers are mainly based on arithmetic and rank the possibilities without considering the available expert knowledge then and there. Afterwards, we propose a solution beyond analyzing the data measured in the past; in addition, the decision-maker, their mental model, and their knowledge is considered. We assume that the effects of cognitive biases are more readily identifiable when using expert systems in considering the decision-maker’s opinions in connection with the actually applied rules in making decisions. In addition to seemingly objective solutions, in our experiment, we propose that by using past cases with known results, complex rules, which are based on the expert’s knowledge, can be simplified without changing the results of decisions in purchasing.

Inverse Perspective Mapping Correction for Aiding Camera-Based Autonomous Driving Tasks †

Inverse perspective mapping (IPM) is a crucial technique in camera-based autonomous driving, transforming the perspective view captured by the camera into a bird’s-eye view. This can be beneficial for accurate environmental perception, path planning, obstacle detection, and navigation. IPM faces challenges such as distortion and inaccuracies due to varying road inclinations and intrinsic camera properties. Herein, we revealed inaccuracies inherent in our current IPM approach so proper correction techniques can be applied later. We aimed to explore correction possibilities to enhance the accuracy of IPM and examine other methods that could be used as a benchmark or even a replacement, such as stereo vision and deep learning-based monocular depth estimation methods. With this work, we aimed to provide an analysis and direction for working with IPM.
