Social Capital Factors Fostering the Sustainable Competitiveness of Enterprises

Publication Name: Sustainability Switzerland

Publication Date: 2022-10-01

Volume: 14

Issue: 19

Page Range: Unknown

Description:

The study aimed to determine the factors of social capital (SC) of enterprises that can have a significant impact on achieving sustainable competitiveness. In this regard, the study tested the SEM-analysis method for evaluating hypotheses regarding the influence of factors of relational, cognitive and structural social capital of enterprises on financial and non-financial indicators of competitiveness. Empirical data for the study were obtained on the basis of a sociological survey conducted by the authors of managers and owners of enterprises in Ukraine from December 2020 to March 2021. The obtained results and modelled relationships of factors confirmed the significant influence of factors of social capital of enterprises on competitiveness. At the same time, the results revealed the most essential influence of efforts to develop strategic partnerships with suppliers (as part of structural SC), efforts to form a positive image of the enterprise and satisfaction with horizontal relationships (as part of relational SC), general satisfaction with the psychological climate in the team, the establishment of corporate culture as well as own efforts to support and develop corporate culture (among the factors of cognitive SC).

The new way of triathlon preparation in youth athletes

Publication Name: Journal of Physical Education and Sport

Publication Date: 2022-10-01

Volume: 22

Issue: 10

Page Range: 2589-2597

Description:

The aim of our research was to find a way, based on international experience, to examine the training method that can be successfully used in youth age groups, and as a consequence, to increase the effectiveness of the sport of triathlon. In Hungary, the methods of preparing the younger age group (10-18 y) are not yet uniform. Hungarian triathletes do not dominate at the international level, neither in the junior age groups nor in the elite field. Two basic methods "fight" each other in Hungary, the so-called "threshold" training (training at the anaerobic threshold), the effectiveness of which has been proven by numerous studies in various sports. The aim of this study was to analyze the effectiveness of “Polarized” (Pol) and “Threshold” (TR) training in youth ages (15-18y). Male youth triathlete subjects taking part in systematic training (n=10, n(Pol) =5; n(TR)=5) were studied. Performance (time), physiological data from spiroergometry (vita maxima) tests and anthropometric features were measured in this longitudinal study (3 years). Performance improvement, relative oxygen uptake (rVO2max) and aerobic time significantly increased (p<0.05) in Pol group, while differences of their anthropometric features did not change significantly during the research. No significant changes were found in any parameters of TR group. There were no significant differences of anthropometric and cardiovascular (Heart Rate) characteristics between the two groups in any assessment. The differences of rVO2max and relative aerobic capacity at the anaerobic threshold were significant in the Pol group (p<0.05) at the second and third measurements. Performance improvement and time in aerobic zone increased more in the Pol group than in the TR group (p<0.05). The Pol training method proved to be more effective than the TR training of the studied group.

Inhomogeneous Financial Markets in a Low Interest Rate Environment—A Cluster Analysis of Eurozone Economies

Publication Name: Risks

Publication Date: 2022-10-01

Volume: 10

Issue: 10

Page Range: Unknown

Description:

In the present paper, we investigate the financial homogeneity of the euro area economies by contrasting eurozone countries’ responses to monetary policy steps to the theoretical assumptions of the liquidity trap phenomenon. Our assumption is that the euro area economies are not completely homogeneous. Hence, in a zero-interest rate environment, the asset holding decisions of economic agents exhibit detectable differences across countries. We verify our assumptions using Eurostat data. We use the financial asset stocks of the euro area countries to cluster the countries concerned. Previous literature has not examined changes in the ratio of financial assets to GDP, nor differences in structural changes in the total stock of financial assets under the zero lower bound. The paper uses k-centers cluster analysis based on Euclidean distance for detecting changes in the portfolio holdings of eurozone economic actors owing to economic crises and monetary policy responses. The results confirm that euro area financial markets are fragmented. There are significant differences across asset markets of different Eurozone countries, both during and after the crisis. Despite some similarities in the portfolio rearrangement across countries, the ECB’s monetary policy does not have a uniform impact on euro area financial markets, and notable differences prevail in the financial asset structures of the economies concerned.

Hybrid Particle Filter-Particle Swarm Optimization Algorithm and Application to Fuzzy Controlled Servo Systems

Publication Name: IEEE Transactions on Fuzzy Systems

Publication Date: 2022-10-01

Volume: 30

Issue: 10

Page Range: 4286-4297

Description:

This article presents a hybrid metaheuristic optimization algorithm that combines particle filter (PF) and particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithms. The new PF-PSO algorithm consists of two steps: the first generates randomly the particle population;and the second zooms the search domain. An application of this algorithm to the optimal tuning of proportional-integral-fuzzy controllers for the position control of a family of integral-type servo systems is then presented as a second contribution. The reduction in PF-PSO algorithm's cost function allows for reduced energy consumption of the fuzzy control system. A comparison with other metaheuristic algorithms on canonical test functions and experimental results are presented at the end of this article.

Intended benefits and challenges of cooperation between FinTechs and commercial banks

Publication Name: Acta Oeconomica

Publication Date: 2022-09-30

Volume: 72

Issue: 3

Page Range: 289-308

Description:

The financial industry has undergone several changes in recent years. One of these changes is the emergence of financial technology (FinTech) companies that are radically transforming the industry, posing a significant challenge to traditional commercial banks. In this study, we examined the responses of the Hungarian banks to the emergence of innovative FinTech startups and explored the benefits and barriers of the FinTech accelerator programs launched by banks. We conducted 27 semi-structured interviews with top executives of banks, FinTech startups and scaleups, investors and regulators to identify the potential benefits and barriers during the cooperation between banks and FinTechs. The most important results of our research show that during the partnership, several advantages can be gained by both parties. Still, the realization of these benefits is significantly hindered by the excessive exploitation focus of banks. Ambidextrous internal champions or suppliers of the banks are needed for successful cooperation between FinTechs and banks.

Sustainable corporate environmental information disclosure: Evidence for green recovery from polluting firms of China

Publication Name: Frontiers in Environmental Science

Publication Date: 2022-09-29

Volume: 10

Issue: Unknown

Page Range: Unknown

Description:

For a greener society, good corporate environmental information disclosure is crucial. This study empirically examines the influence of media attention and state-owned equity, and their interaction on corporate environmental information disclosure by A-share heavily polluting firms in the Shanghai and Shenzhen stock markets from 2015 to 2019. The results show that state-owned equity can improve the level of corporate environmental information disclosure; however, it mainly affects financial environmental information disclosure. Media attention also improves the level of corporate environmental information disclosure, but only for non-financial environmental information. Moreover, media attention and state-owned equity have a certain substitution effect on environmental information disclosure: a higher state-owned equity ratio weakens the positive effect of media attention on environmental information disclosure. To improve environmental information disclosure, the government must clarify disclosure standards to improve the comparability of environmental information. In addition, media and shareholders can fully leverage their external and internal supervisory roles to promote the environmental responsibilities of firms. Our findings can be useful for further promoting corporate environmental information disclosure and developing relevant policies.

FEM-Based Power Transformer Model for Superconducting and Conventional Power Transformer Optimization

Publication Name: Energies

Publication Date: 2022-09-01

Volume: 15

Issue: 17

Page Range: Unknown

Description:

There were many promising superconducting materials discovered in the last decades that can significantly increase the efficiency of large power transformers. However, these large machines are generally custom-made and tailored to the given application. During the design process the most economical design should be selected from thousands of applicable solutions in a short design period. Due to the nonlinearity of the task, the cost-optimal transformer design, which has the smallest costs during the transformers’ planned lifetime, is usually not the design with the highest efficiency. Due to the topic’s importance, many simplified transformer models were published in the literature to resolve this problem. However, only a few papers considered this preliminary design optimization problem in the case of superconducting transformers and none of them made a comparison with a validated conventional transformer optimization model. This paper proposes a novel FEM-based two-winding transformer model, which can be used to calculate the main dimension of conventional and superconducting transformer designs. The models are stored in a unified JSON-file format, which can be easily integrated into an evolutionary or genetic algorithm-based optimization. The paper shows the used methods and their accuracy on conventional 10 MVA and superconducting 1.2 MVA transformer designs. Moreover, a simple cost optimization with the 10 MVA transformer was performed for two realistic economic scenarios. The results show that in some cases the cheaper, but less efficient, transformer can be the more economic.

Home Office, Health Behavior and Workplace Health Promotion of Employees in the Telecommunications Sector during the Pandemic

Publication Name: International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health

Publication Date: 2022-09-01

Volume: 19

Issue: 18

Page Range: Unknown

Description:

Our study aims to present the perception and experiences of employees at a large multinational telecommunications company in Hungary working in home offices, as well as their health behavior and the workplace health promotion during the SARS-CoV-2 COVID-19 outbreak. The sample consisted of the full sample of highly skilled employees at a large telecommunication multinational company (N = 46). Throughout the analysis, tests for homogeneity of variance were followed by a MANOVA test to compare the groups’ means by gender, age, and job classification. The results clearly show that in the short term, workers’ mental health did not deteriorate, they do not argue or fight more with their partners and are no more depressed or irritable than before. Workers are less likely to think of ways to be more effective at work than in a home office. Similarly, they do not think that employers have more expectations than before the pandemic. Our research shows the assumption about home workers being less efficient or less diligent in their daily work to be false. A supportive and flexible employer approach to health-conscious employees will be an essential aspect in the future.
