Comparative Study of the Mechanical Behavior of Concrete Railway Sleeper Mix Design, using Waste Rubber and Glass Materials

Publication Name: Acta Polytechnica Hungarica

Publication Date: 2022-01-01

Volume: 19

Issue: 6

Page Range: 213-224

Description:

Waste rubber tires and glass powders, are hazardous materials for the environment. One of the methods to consume them, is their application in railway engineering projects. Rubber and glass materials, in this research, are provided from waste tires and glass bottles. Therefore, a modification is conducted to the concrete railway sleeper mix design, incorporated with waste rubber (R) and glass powder (GP). Three mechanical tests, including compressive, flexural and tensile splitting, have been studied on rubber and glass powder concrete specimens. Three different percentages of 5%, 10% and 15% by cement weight, for GP and by fine aggregate volume for R, are investigated herein. The results show that GP concrete has a better performance over the rubber concrete (RC), but lower than Ref. specimens. 5%GP as the best mix design, has compressive, flexural and tensile strengths of 45.4 MPa, 7.5 MPa and 5.82 MPa, respectively. Moreover, these strengths, for compressive and flexural, of 5%GP are about 24% and 6% lower than the Ref. strengths, respectively, while, tensile splitting strength is almost 14% higher than Ref. strength.

Modular code generation for creating IoT applications

Publication Name: International Conference on Electrical Computer Communications and Mechatronics Engineering Iceccme 2022

Publication Date: 2022-01-01

Volume: Unknown

Issue: Unknown

Page Range: Unknown

Description:

This paper builds on an earlier work that aims to generate code for connected digital systems (IoT, Internet of Things). Orcc-IoT was the adaptation of the Orcc dataflow design environment and code generator to the IoT problem area. IoT systems are characterized by heterogeneity of both the software and hardware environments therefore code generators targeting them must be able to handle embedded, client and server enviroments too. The first version of Orcc-IoT provided simplistic code generators. The extensions presented in this paper add embedded and server-side modules and more specialized wireless communication options to test Orcc-IoT's modular architecture.

The effect of different consequent setting on the effectiveness of Kóczy-Hirota fuzzy rule interpolation in colonoscopy image classification

Publication Name: 2022 57th International Scientific Conference on Information Communication and Energy Systems and Technologies Icest 2022

Publication Date: 2022-01-01

Volume: Unknown

Issue: Unknown

Page Range: Unknown

Description:

The effect of the refinement of the consequent categories in Kï¿czy-Hirota fuzzy rule interpolation is studied in the model system of colonoscopy image classification. The colonoscopy image segments are classified based on 99 antecedents, which are statistical parameters of the image segments. The number of consequents is increased from 2 - contains polyp, or does not contain polyp - to a more refined set distribution based on the polyp content of the image segment.

Opportunities for analysing digitalisation in the context of banking services in the European Union, 2017–2018

Publication Name: Teruleti Statisztika

Publication Date: 2022-01-01

Volume: 62

Issue: 1

Page Range: 35-58

Description:

Nowadays, the development of the digital economy is gaining ground, changing consumer expectations through the opportunities offered by the internet and ICT, and requiring continuous improvements from financial service providers. The aim of this paper is to examine the regional dimension of banking services analyses by comparing the financial digital modernisation clusters and rankings of EU Member States with the traditionally accepted overall digital development analyses. After describing the impact of digitalisation on financial geography, the paper presents the European Union's (EU) digital transformation efforts and the financial relevance of digitalisation, as well as the major past changes and the current situation of the financial intermediation system. The findings of the empirical analysis show that the clustering of the EU28 Member States based on their overall digital development shows a partial correspondence with the results of studies focusing on digital banking services. The research confirms the advantages of the Northern European countries in digitalisation, but also reveals the divergent nature of the Western and Eastern Member States.

Multiple-solution heat exchanger network synthesis using P-HENS solver

Publication Name: Journal of the Taiwan Institute of Chemical Engineers

Publication Date: 2022-01-01

Volume: 130

Issue: Unknown

Page Range: Unknown

Description:

Analysis on the alternative designs on top of the optimal network has proven valuable and meaningful for the decision-makers in determining the most suitable options which fulfill a wide range of objective functions. On the basis of an extension of the P-graph framework, a procedure was developed previously for multiple-solution heat exchanger network (HEN) synthesis. This procedure is capable of generating the n-best HENs depending on predefined structural constraints, for example, the maximum number of heat exchangers used for the entire system, the maximum number of sequential heat exchangers on each stream, the maximum number of stream splittings per stream. Since the choice of a parameter influences the effect of other parameters on the result, it is difficult to find the proper set of parameters for the solver that result in all plausible solutions to the original problem. Naturally, this issue emerges in any HEN synthesis problem, its systematic treatment is essential. The purpose of the current work was to develop a heuristic framework for determining the most reasonable parameters of the HEN generation algorithm and guiding the designer through the optimization process. The outcome of this study not only benefits the researchers and industrial practitioners of this field but may also be extended for educational purposes.

Data-Based Assembly Patterns for Overall Equipment Effectiveness at Semi-Automatic Assembly Lines

Publication Name: Periodica Polytechnica Mechanical Engineering

Publication Date: 2022-01-01

Volume: 66

Issue: 3

Page Range: 231-236

Description:

In industrial practice, production planning is a key factor for manufacturers and suppliers. The entire planning process spans from the appearance of the customer demand to the fulfillment of the demand. Operational execution is based on pre-planned production processes and operations using properly allocated resources. The accurate planning of assembly operations within production is an extremely complex process in terms of efficiency. Predicting stochastically variable efficiencies is difficult due to the ever-changing manufacturing conditions. This paper defines typical assembly process situations for a semi-automatic assembly line and examines their consequence for the Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE). Firstly, a literature review demonstrates the scientific relevance. Secondly, the classification of patterns based on assembly process description parameters is described taking into account the positive and negative effects on the OEE. In addition, the assembly patterns and their characteristics are illustrated through a real automotive example.

Foreign direct investment and shadow economy: One-way effect or multiple-way causality?

Publication Name: Journal of International Studies

Publication Date: 2022-01-01

Volume: 15

Issue: 4

Page Range: 196-212

Description:

The article examines the relationship between the size of the shadow economy and indicators of the investment market development. Net inflow of foreign direct investments, volume of net investments in non-financial assets, volumes of portfolio investments, and net outflow of foreign direct investment were used as parameters characterizing the development of the investment market. The dependence between the indicators was analyzed using the regression equation, Shapiro-Wilk test. Research results demonstrate that the increase in the inflow and outflow of foreign direct investments leads to an increase in the size of the shadow economy without a time lag in Ukraine, Poland, Slovenia, Romania, Croatia, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, and with a time lag of 1 year in Slovakia and Hungary. The largest impact on the size of the shadow economy is made by the volume of inflow and outflow of direct foreign investments, while the volume of portfolio investments has a less significant effect. Consequently, it was concluded that the processes of inflow and outflow of direct foreign investments require enhanced control by specialized state executive bodies given the scale of their potential destabilizing impact on the macroeconomic stability of the country.
