Maximizing the Capacity Utilization of Selective Waste Collection Vehicles

Selective Waste Collection is an essential part of recycling raw materials, in order to protect our environment. The waste collection is carried out by using a seriously polluting vehicle, due to the fact that most of the gathering vehicles are using fossil energy sources, like gasoline. High volume of carcinogenic elements are contained in the emitted exhaust gases. The current waste collection methods are just focusing on the load of the selective waste collective vehicle during a collection route. The goal of this research is to find the best solution to use the full storage capacity of the selective waste collecting vehicle with the lowest volume of residual air due to the effectively compressed waste. The closed and uncompressed PET bottles require the largest volume in the waste collecting vehicle. It is essential to minimize the air in the PET bottles to decrease the volume. Different methods have been examined to increase the density of the selectively collected waste. Statistical data have been used to determine the collecting parameters – nowadays, a 15 t waste collecting vehicle, with a 20 m3 load capacity is only gathering 1-1.5 t PET due to the ineffective use of its load compartment. The application of the method herein, enhances the efficiency of the waste collecting vehicle by gathering 4-10 times more waste than currently used methods.

A CROSS-COUNTRY STUDY ON THE DETERMINANTS OF WORKING CAPITAL MANAGEMENT: GMM APPROACH

The paper analyzed the determinants of Working Capital Management (WCM) of listed manufacturing firms across South Asian Association of Regional Corporation (SAARC) countries from 2000 to 2020. Employing a Generalized Method of Moments, we found that operational risk and market risk are key hurdles to efficient working capital management. Our results are providing an important managerial implication for the use of operational risk and market risk in selected countries. Firms in selected countries can manage an optimal level of WCM through controlling operational risk and market risk, therefore should develop a ranking system about WCM activities to boost up their firm value.

WAYS OF IMPROVING OF ACTIVE CONTOUR METHODS IN COLON-OSCOPY IMAGE SEGMENTATION

As colonoscopy is the standard screening approach for colorectal polyps, and the first step of the correct classification and the efficient automatic diagnostics is the accurate detection and segmentation of the ex-isting polyps, it is worth researching systematically, how colonoscopy databases are responding to two of the most influential variational segmentation methods, the geodesic and Chan–Vese active contour meth-ods. Due to the quality variation of the colonoscopy databases, pre-processing steps are made. Then, 14 various filtered images are evaluated as different inputs for the active contour methods using the Sørensen–Dice Similarity Coefficient as a performance measurement metric. The effects of the initial mask shape and its size together with the number of iterations, contraction bias and smoothness factor are studied. In gen-eral, the Chan–Vese method showed more efficiency to match the actual contour of the polyp than the geodesic one with an initial mask possibly located within the polyp area. Preprocessing such as reflection removal, background subtraction and mean or median filtering can improve the Sørensen–Dice coefficient by up to 0.5

Presenting Climate-related Disclosures in the Automotive Sector: Practical Possibilities and Limitations of Current Reporting Prototypes and Methods

The eXtensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL) digital reporting system presents the annual accounts and financial data in a standardized format, thus producing comparable reports. This study examines how new sustainability reporting requirements proposed by the recent International Financial Reporting Standard (IFRS) S2 exposure draft could affect current reporting conditions of public listed European automotive manufacturers, from a taxonomical perspective. It was attempted the IFRS taxonomy to be linked with the ISSB's (International Sustainability Standards Board) proposed factors. Based on the changes in the regulatory environment and the existing digital reporting methodology, the paper proposed the inclusion of climate-related disclosure of automotive companies in the existing IFRS Taxonomy. In the taxonomical assessment, it was found that the recent sustainability reporting prototypes will likely affect certain financial statement sections, mostly the Notes to the financial statements. At present, there is no direct information available to investors and consumers on the environmental performance, which could be verified in the financial statements. There is no detailed emissions data that the company produces, as it is mainly the emissions compliance of the final product that is declared, especially in the automotive industry.

Dimensions of traumatized social consciousness Data for the theory of wounded collective identity

In our study, we present the results of testing the regional interpretation model of wounded collective identity for East-Central Europe developed by András Máté-Tóth. First, we summarize the essence of the theory and identify the elements along which the theory can be tested, focusing mainly on the emotional aspects. In the second step, we analyze our model on the basis of empirical data retrieved by TÁRKI in 2020. Our results show that the elements of the wounded collective identity are significantly correlated with each other, thus validating the theoretical hypothesis.

Holistic Online Learning, in a Post COVID-19 World

In August of 2020, the United Nations reported that the COVID-19 pandemic had affected 1.6 billion learners, in more than 190 countries and on all continents [1]. The closing of schools and other learning spaces impacted an astonishing 94% of the world’s student population. These sudden school closures, at all levels, had the immediate and unprecedented effect of triggering a mass migration to emergency remote teaching. While mass vaccinations have enabled educational institutions to reopen and students to return to classrooms in the Fall of 2021, the educational disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic is far from over. Higher education must now permanently transition from reductionist, emergency remote learning systems to permanent, holistic online learning platforms. In order to better understand this transition, an online survey was delivered to diverse groups of international students attending Corvinus University and ESSCA School of Management, at the beginning and end of the Spring 2021 semester. The analysis of this survey, strongly indicates that the home and social environments of University, had a significant impact on the student’s learning aptitudes.

Laboratory Tests and FE Modeling of the Concrete Canvas, for Infrastructure Applications

The Concrete Canvas (CC) material, is a promising material for application in many civil engineering fields, such as, water construction, pipelining, slope protection, military applications, etc. The authors believe that this material has more potential and could be helpful in infrastructure applications. The infrastructure design requirements are known; the CC has to be fit into the track structure. Several relevant investigations were performed to show the materials adequacy, and using collected data, FE (Finite Element) models were built to determine more of the physical parameters. From the results and the hardening experiences, it can be stated, that after the laying of CC and the spraying of water, the material has to be loaded to reach the best shape and push the material down to the supporting protection layer. In FE modeling, it was shown that the material is a composite structure, i.e. one material's physical properties is not enough for modeling (it has to be improved). Moreover, it means that dynamic examinations can be initiated.

MEASURING AGE-DEPENDENCE OF COLOUR AFTERIMAGE PERCEPTION

Afterimages are common and frequent perceptual phenomena of everyday life. A typical appearance is the negative “ghost” image of a bright light source when we turn away from it. In the case of significant colour contrast, the afterimage can be coloured. The perceived false image’s strength decreases gradually and completely disappears in a (10–100) s timescale. The underlying processes have multiple components: a quick adaptation on the retinal level, and a slower adaptation on the neural level. Several studies discuss these mechanisms, but there are still important questions to be answered. In our research, we apply the top-level, black-box style approach: instead of focusing on the inner details, we ask human test subjects to test and measure the duration and “strength score” of the same light-transitions. Our goal is to find the main features that affect the duration and subjective strength of the colour afterimages. Specifically, we examine whether the age and gender of the test subjects or the colourimetry parameters affect these parameters. Two set of experiments were performed: colour-colour transitions with 41 and colour-grey transitions with 16 test subjects between 19 and 62. We found that gender has no measurable influence, but age makes a difference in high significance. Both experiment types confirmed that over 40 years the average duration of colour afterimages decreases.

Digital Twin of Drone-based Protection of Agricultural Areas

Protecting agricultural fields, like crops, vineyards, and husbandry areas, has been a difficult challenge since historical times. Classical methods to prevent intrusion are often destructive to wild and domestic animals alike. Even more current nondestructive systems, like camera-based systems are attributed to specific problems related to environmental or technological issues. Furthermore, verifying the effectiveness of installed systems is difficult, as the triggering situations are unmanageable and typically occur unsupervised. This paper presents a complex vision-based intrusion detection system to overcome these problems and further proposes more extensive control and flexibility on the development process. The solution provides a workflow integrating Digital Reality methods into the system development by creating a digital twin of the drone and its surrounding environment in a general-purpose robotic simulator. With this simulation, the triggering events and environmental effects can be easily emulated, such as a wild animal entering the area of interest. The solution also focuses on incorporating new 5G info-communication networks on handling communication between the intrusion detection system and the base station in a distributed manner.
