Personalized learning opportunity in 3D VR

Publication Name: 11th IEEE International Conference on Cognitive Infocommunications Coginfocom 2020 Proceedings

Publication Date: 2020-09-23

Volume: Unknown

Issue: Unknown

Page Range: 425-430

Description:

Result of modern digital age, the concept of Personal Learning Environments (PLEs) are becoming more relevant in today's academic world. Personalization is needed to make a product or service or an educational environment more endearing to the target audience, and this is especially true for VR Learning. The paper examines the learning effectiveness connecting to the personalized learning content with the participation of 90 students. The personalized VR education was based on an examination of students' learning type and attribute. In the experiment, the same curricula is compared when executed using audio, visual or reading type of learning content. To determine the learning style of students, the Kolb's learning test were applied. Tests show that the users were able to complete the tests with at least 20% effectiveness, if the learning materials fits their learning type.

A new VR paradigm to measure mental rotation

Publication Name: 11th IEEE International Conference on Cognitive Infocommunications Coginfocom 2020 Proceedings

Publication Date: 2020-09-23

Volume: Unknown

Issue: Unknown

Page Range: 579-584

Description:

In most of the studies focusing on mental rotation, researchers have used classic mental rotation paradigms. In a few more recent studies, new paradigms have emerged, but the effect sizes were small, sex-based performance measurements showed mixed results, and most paradigms were not standardized. In this paper, I describe the paradigm that I am willing to standardize and use on a large user base to investigate whether VR environments have any effect on the process and the performance measures of mental rotation. I expect subjects to have better performances when discriminating between stimuli in the presented VR environment.

Distance learning system established for teachers of hungarian language and culture in diaspora with the support of MaxWhere 3D VR

Publication Name: 11th IEEE International Conference on Cognitive Infocommunications Coginfocom 2020 Proceedings

Publication Date: 2020-09-23

Volume: Unknown

Issue: Unknown

Page Range: 331-336

Description:

At the Apáczai Csere János Faculty of Széchenyi István University we had the opportunity to create a distance learning system that helps colleagues in the diaspora to teach Hungarian as a foreign language. Free interface became available to educators interested in the programme in May 2020. Distance learning is realized via Moodle of the university's VR learning system, complemented by the possibilities provided by MaxWhere 3D VR learning spaces. In the process of developing the distance learning system, professional, content-related and technical needs were assessed with the help of focus group interviews. The present study aims to present this process as well as the theoretical and practical background of the establishment of this distance learning system.

Encountering the cognitive and noetic endeavors of macedon renaissance : PPart I: Macedonian renaissance and system of depicting and meaning for the picture of sephanus rex on the coronation mantle (Royal Casula) of St Stephen of Hungary

Publication Name: 11th IEEE International Conference on Cognitive Infocommunications Coginfocom 2020 Proceedings

Publication Date: 2020-09-23

Volume: Unknown

Issue: Unknown

Page Range: 523-532

Description:

The paper discusses artworks of Royal (Coronation) Robe (Casula) of St Stephen of Hungary concerning the picture of the author-king as Sephanus Rex (sic!) in the style of the Macedonian Renaissance representing noetic and pneumatic experiences renewing the traditional Christian interpretations. Here the main purpose of the fascinating Artifact is the explanation of the historical and structural background in the old Greek noetic and mystical Judaist pneumatic tradition for the spiritual support of the eucharistic liturgy of the Asterisk-disc.

A test space for virtual rotation measurement in MaxWhere

Publication Name: 11th IEEE International Conference on Cognitive Infocommunications Coginfocom 2020 Proceedings

Publication Date: 2020-09-23

Volume: Unknown

Issue: Unknown

Page Range: 585-586

Description:

This demo presents a virtual reality test space, which is part of a test battery that is now under development as a part of an aptitude test and skill development project to support human resource assessment. The test space focuses on subjects' ability to both internally visualize and to manipulate the spatial orientation of a 3D cube with specific, configurable parts missing.

On uncertainty and the 'Space-Time-Information' Continuum : tthe role of the Probabilist and/or Philostochus

Publication Name: 11th IEEE International Conference on Cognitive Infocommunications Coginfocom 2020 Proceedings

Publication Date: 2020-09-23

Volume: Unknown

Issue: Unknown

Page Range: 591-596

Description:

The paper deals with the 'old' physical worldview of the space-time continuum paradigm and argues that it may need to be supplemented with underlying notions of information and uncertainty. Using this approach, we very briefly discuss a quantum physics case's interpretation possibility and uncertainty-interpretational possibility of Russell's paradox with its 'philosophical' problems, too.

University lecturers' distance learning experiences gained during the COVID-19 pandemic period

Publication Name: 11th IEEE International Conference on Cognitive Infocommunications Coginfocom 2020 Proceedings

Publication Date: 2020-09-23

Volume: Unknown

Issue: Unknown

Page Range: 325-330

Description:

Semester 2 of the academic year 2019/2020 has brought along a special situation and a variety of new solutions in education throughout the world. The emerging pandemic situation changed the system considerably by impeding both lecturers and students from working and meeting personally. Transition to online, distance education has also presented new challenges to educators, parents, teachers, university lecturers and students, as well as a new path of development. During our research, the experiences and difficulties gained by the members of Apaczai Csere Janos Faculty at Szechenyi István University in the past semester were examined with the help of an online questionnaire. Preliminary results show that the semester of distance learning, despite its difficulties, brought several positive results that enhanced teachers' creativity, pedagogical competencies as well as methodological culture of how the different tools and programs were used.

Beyond 160 applications of an expert system: Key to a better usability

Publication Name: 11th IEEE International Conference on Cognitive Infocommunications Coginfocom 2020 Proceedings

Publication Date: 2020-09-23

Volume: Unknown

Issue: Unknown

Page Range: 563-568

Description:

The most influential relevant thinkers have complained of the 'poverty' of Expert Systems (ES) both in the past (Dreyfus and Dreyfus, 1986) and in recently studies as well (Müller and Bostrom, 2016). We developed our own AI-Based Expert System shell for rule-based and case-based reasoning three decades ago and now there are 160 Knowledge Engineering (KE) process behind us with this system. We hope that this experience give us the right to formulate an opinion about that what is the key to a better usability and user experience in understanding of the result of the decision making process. While we do not think that ES is an omnipotent panacea, we also do not think that its applicability is determined only by the shell capabilities. However, one ability is essential; namely, presenting the result as simply as possible in order to that the decision-maker also can understand it. Our finding is that ES shells are only able to be transparent if they are designed by people who have an understanding of the human thinking process instead of a strong math-based software development approach.
