IP Packet Forwarding Performance Comparison of the FD.io VPP and the Linux Kernel

Description:

There are numerous free software solutions for IPv4 or IPv6 packet forwarding. The Fast Data Project / Vector Packet Processing (FD.io VPP) is a novel and prominent solution. This paper investigates its performance and scalability compared to that of the Linux kernel. The investigation was conducted in accordance with the requirements outlined in the relevant Request for Comments (RFC) documents (RFC 2544, RFC 4814, and RFC 5180) using the siitperf measurement software. Two different test environments were used to eliminate the potential hardware-specific side effects and to gain insight into the performance and scalability of the IPv4 and IPv6 packet forwarding capability of the two investigated solutions. It was found that FD.io VPP outperformed the Linux kernel by approximately an order of magnitude. The configuration of FD.io VPP, along with the details of the measurements, are provided, and the results are presented and analyzed in the paper.

The problem of product and process planning analysed so far is how we can take advantage of our strategy in planning. Among the principles of manufacturing and service management concepts is that after planning demand, planning transformation is one of the key steps of integrated efficiency; it makes it possible to save costs that are not value adding and are not necessary from the customer's point of view. Currently, the methods of material requirements and capacity planning can be seen as classic solutions that are based on dependency relations between different resources, which can be dynamic in space and time. Measuring and recording capacities raise several problems in addition to the fact that our planning methods are not always satisfying. In the literature, the methods of material requirements planning or manufacturing resource planning (MRP) are not typically optimization methods, so they do not guarantee the best solution, and even if our planning methods were satisfying, several manufacturing restrictions (the time allowed, the complexity of the planning process, the lack of testing opportunities, etc.) could prevent us from reaching satisfying application. It is necessary to create a simple planning algorithm that can give the planner a greater degree of freedom and that would be simple and algorithmic in order to maintain continuous conscious control, putting an end to planning uncertainty and leading us to the best solution under the given conditions. The aim of our research is to introduce a novel, simple planning algorithm, similar to heuristic methods that eliminates the problem of defining the order quantity when applying traditional methods, which prevents us from determining in advance which method is desirable (causing unnecessary planning steps); computer- based solutions hide the causal relations of the methodology from the planner (causing unreliability uncertainty).

Design of acoustic cavity test apparatus for validation of mid-frequency response of a plate-cavity system

The mid-frequency range acoustic response between 400-1000 Hz has gained particular interest in the automotive industry recently. Simulation of this region is challenging due to the non-negligible statistical effects, especially when acoustic trim is applied. In order to be able to investigate the effect of these materials in the presence of an air cavity, this paper describes the design methodology behind the design and manufacturing of two test apparatuses that include an air cavity. The apparatuses were designed to serve as a validation tool for Finite Element Method (FEM) and Statistical Energy Analysis (SEA) simulations, which meant that an optimal size had to be found based on the number of fluid modes in the cavity. Two types of plate-cavity apparatuses have been designed: one with “rigid walls” and one with “soft walls”. In the “rigid wall” cavity, the walls are made out of concrete since these boundary conditions can be perfectly represented in simulations. In the “soft wall” cavity, the walls are made of steel plates and this allows validation of coupling loss simulations between multiple structural subsystems as well as an air cavity. Details of the joining methods, geometries, material selections are elaborated to fully describe the theoretical and practical implications of the designs.

At present, more and more researches deals with the characteristic features of generation Y and generation Z. As it is about the present and future generations, corporate success and the competitive operation are determined by the behaviour of these generations in the long-run. Researches justifies that there are significant differences between the two generations despite the similarities. These differences appear rather emphasized in the corporate environment when several questions arise at workplaces in the process of cooperation - especially in the field of knowledge-sharing and knowledge transfer-regarding the characteristics of the two generations. Last year, the authors carried out a quantitative research by questionnaires in order to reveal what the managing of these two generations mean for the managers and also what difficulties occur when the two generations cooperate with each other and with elder generations as well. The main question of the research was how to approach the new generations from the view of HR? Although the research cannot be considered representative (410 respondents participated in the survey), it can give a picture about the examined issues. The hypothesis phrased by the authors was justified according to which of the HR activities have to adapt to the requirements of the new generations upon their appearance.

Investigating ABCB1-mediated drug-drug interactions: Considerations for in vitro and in vivo assay design

Background: ABCB1 is a key ABC efflux transporter modulating the pharmacokinetics of a large percentage of drugs. ABCB1 is also a site of transporter mediated drug-drug interactions (tDDI). It is the transporter most frequently tested for tDDIs both in vitro and in the clinic. Objective: Understanding the limitations of various in vitro and in vivo models, therefore, is crucial. In this review we cover regulatory aspects of ABCB1 mediated drug transport as well as inhibition and the available models and methods. We also discuss protein structure and mechanistic aspects of transport as ABCB1 displays complex kinetics that involves multiple binding sites, potentiation of transport and probe-dependent IC50 values. Results: Permeability of drugs both passive and mediated by transporters is also a covariate that modulates apparent kinetic values. Levels of expression as well as lipid composition of the expression system used in in vitro studies have also been acknowledged as determinates of transporter activity. ABCB1-mediated clinical tDDIs are often complex as multiple transporters as well as metabolic enzymes may play a role. This complexity often masks the role of ABCB1 in tDDIs. Conclusion: It is expected that utilization of in vitro data will further increase with the refinement of simulations. It is also anticipated that transporter humanized preclinical models have a significant impact and utility.

The implication of business intelligence in risk management: a case study in agricultural insurance

The increasing data scales in today’s business sectors coupled with the necessity of risk management raise the importance of business intelligence tools as an integrated solution for the insurance industry. These tools have mostly been used to achieve effective risk management. Although methods of risk management in the insurance industry have been proposed many years ago, the research effort has primarily been focused on predictive analyses. This study aimed to investigate the role of business intelligence as a solution to illustrate its potential in risk management particularly for decision-makers in agricultural insurance. We hypothesized that this would make a preferable decision in uncertain conditions. Sample data from the online transaction process system of Iran agricultural insurance fund were preprocessed in SQL server. Multidimensional online analytical processing architecture was analyzed using Targit business intelligence tool. Our results identified financial risks that lead to a framework of controlling risk based on business intelligence in the agricultural insurance fund.

The paper proposes an own-developed point-cloud processing algorithm which was developed for the Autonomous Urban Concept competition organized by Shell. The approach does not intend to solve general-purpose object recognition and tracking, although the methodologies presented can be used as general solutions. Our approach will be presented in comprehensive manner, the challenges and solutions will be detailed. Also, the dysfunctional ideas will be listed, and alternative workarounds will be presented as recommendations too. As verification of the algorithm, both simulation and real-world measurements will be presented. For the sake of research and open source, we share datasets and necessary information publicly.

Lack of Collaboration on the CEP Market and the Underlying Reasons—A Systematic Literature Review

The scientific community has been addressing the topic of last-mile delivery for years. To improve parcel delivery efficiency, a variety of different technologies have been created. Over the past 15 years, the focus has shifted from the operational efficiency of the individual organization to restoring sustainability and making cities more livable. As a result of the increased environmental burden, governments are enacting a growing number of restrictive measures, which will intensify economic challenges. To remain competitive, more cost-effective solutions are required. The goal of this article is to examine the significance of collaboration between CEP partners based on scientific interest, with the help of a systematic literature review. This examination is important since, despite the fact that working together with other service providers and competitors could be a favorable option for last mile suppliers looking to improve their efficiency, results show little interest in this approach. Although this strategy appears straightforward due to the potential financial and environmental benefits, there are only a few examples of collaboration in the field of last mile parcel delivery according to the results of the review. Since cooperation seems to be an inevitable operating model of the CEP market in the future, it is of utmost importance for scientific research to investigate the factors hindering the development of cooperation.
