The Effects of a Cyberbullying Intervention Programme Among Primary School Students

Background: With the increase of cyberbullying, several intervention programmes have been created that aim at reducing cyber-victimisation and perpetration. Objective: Our study presents the effects of the STAnD anti-cyberbullying programme with peer-education both on the short and the long run among lower and upper primary school students, with a focus on the participants’ cyberbullying roles. Method: The sample comprised of 536 students who participated in the intervention programme, involving 36% lower and 64% upper primary school students. Participants were measured by a self-reported questionnaire before and right after the programme, then six months later. Results: The main effect of the STAnD programme was a positive change in the participants’ willingness to engage in help-seeking and their active-defending reaction, although this effect decreased after six months. The changes were larger among lower primary school students compared to upper primary school participants. Conclusion: Our results imply that long-lasting and intensive health promotion programmes are necessary to reach a long-term intervention effect. Anti-cyberbullying programmes should take into consideration participants’ involvement and roles in cyberbullying. As our study was a non-randomised uncontrolled study design, thus interpretation of the effectiveness of the programme is limited.

Comparative study of metaheuristics on optimal design of gravity retaining wall

Retaining walls are typical geotechnical engineering applications analyzed extensively in the literature. However, the optimal design of these walls is still unsolved due to the optimization problem's complexity and the unrecognized best solver that can be used. Most similar works present a single optimizer for this problem. This work used six metaheuristics to formulate and solve the optimal gravity retaining wall problem design. The comparative study was achieved among particle swarm optimization, grey wolf optimizer, artificial bee colony, dynamic differential annealed optimization, fertilization optimization algorithm, and whale optimization algorithm. The problem and its results were discussed in detail within the respective sections.

Determination of Optimal Process Parameters for L-PBF Produced 1.2709 Alloy †

For L-PBF (Laser Powder Bed Fusion) metal additive manufacturing (AM) the choice of available materials is still limited. 1.2709 maraging steel powders are widely used for injection molds and high-quality engineering parts. The quality of the parts produced by L-PBF are significantly affected by the process parameters. The aim of this research was to find optimal process parameters for producing 1.2709 tool steel at a layer thickness of 20 µm and to reveal the possible parameter settings yielding comparable build quality as the “EOS surface” parameter set at a layer thickness of 20 µm. Findings showed that too low or too high input energies produce improper parts. A large range of parameters produce good quality parts, of which the optimum parameters can be chosen.

Functional and environmental impacts of the use of reclaimed asphalt pavement materials and of foamed asphalt

Environmental safety related to asphalt mixing plants has been a growing concern due to the high temperature of asphalt mixture production resulting in a lot of energy used and much air pollutants released. Asphalt mixtures with foamed bitumen and RAP can reduce this problem. This paper deals with their functional and environmental effects. In the paper, it was introduced that the hot mix asphalt mixtures bound by foamed bitumen and containing RAP materials provides a good workability, in comparison to “traditional” hot mix asphalt mixtures. However, producing foamed bitumen needs special technological steps before using it as asphalt binder. The use of RAP materials reduces environmental harm and construction costs, besides it preserves the limited resources of stone, sand and gravel.

On the Applicability of Fuzzy Rule Interpolation and Wavelet Analysis in Colorectal Image Segment Classification

The automatic detection of colorectal polyps could serve as a visual aid for gastroenterologists when screening the population for colorectal cancer. A fuzzy inference based method was developed for determining whether a segment of an image has polyps. Its antecedent dimensions were the mean pixel intensity, the intensity’s standard deviation, the edge density, the structural entropies and the gradients, not only for the original image segments, but for its wavelet transformed versions. The method performed moderately well, even though the number of the input parameters was very large. In the present contribution we studied, that based on the necessary and usually applied conditions of the applicability of fuzzy rule interpolation, which antecedent dimensions should remain, and how omitting the other input parameters influences the results of the method.

Visibility studies at roundabouts entries

Most accidents in roundabouts occur at the entries, partly due to poor visibility. To analyse this problem a sample roundabout with some visibility obstacles was measured by laser scanner and data were put into a 3D model. The fields of view were studied from the viewpoint heights of car and truck drivers as well. To assess the results, three indicators were defined: the hidden sight distance, the hidden sight triangle area and the angle of hide. These indicators were measured in the point cloud model. Through these indicators the adequacy of visibility conditions can be assessed.

Mechanical and morphological properties of PP/XNBR blends produced with rubber latex

In this work, polypropylene (PP)/carboxylated acrylonitrile butadiene rubber (XNBR) binary blends were prepared with the elastomer component dosed in its suspension (latex) form into the polymer matrix during melt compounding. For this purpose, samples containing 0-20 wt.% rubber were prepared using two different PP grades as matrices with lower and higher viscosity. Analogous reference samples with the same composition were also fabricated using traditional melt mixing by introducing the rubber in its dry, bulk form in order to analyze the efficiency of the latex route. Mechanical, thermomechanical and morphological analyses were used to investigate the structure-property relationships of the blends. Based on the SEM images the average domain size of the dispersed XNBR domains became markedly smaller when the rubber was introduced in its suspension form into the PP. Based on the Charpy impact tests and the tensile test results, the decreased rubber domain size led to improved ductility and toughness. The improvement was more prominent when the difference between the viscosity of the PP matrix and the XNBR rubber was higher.

DAIRY WASTEWATER UTILIZATION BY COMBINATION OF OXIDATION PRE-TREATMENT AND ULTRAFILTRATION

In this work the effects of oxidation pre-treatments (ozonation and Fenton reaction) on membrane filtration of dairy wastewater were investigated, together with the further utilization possibilities of residual wastes. The oxidation pre-treatments enhanced the membrane filtration efficiency, from which the short-term ozone treatment was found to be the most effective method both in terms of increasing the flux and the pollutant removal efficiency. After ozone pre-treatment the phosphate and ammonium content of the wastewater migrated to the permeate, while after Fenton pre-treatment the phosphate content remained in the concentrate, and the ammonium content in the permeate decreased. The concentrate was utilized as biogas resource and it was found that both pretreatments increased the biogas production and its methane content as well. Based on our results it can be concluded that ozone pretreatment combined with membrane separation have improved the efficiency of dairy wastewater treatment and may suit the requirements of circular economy.
