A logic model for inference chains in expert systems

This paper deals with the calculations performed in the reasoning process of rule-based expert systems, where inference chains are applied. It presents a logic model for representing the rules and the rule base of a given system. Also, the fact base of the same expert system is involved in the logic model. The proposed equivalent representation manifests itself in a logic network. After that, a four-valued logic algebra is introduced. This algebra is used for the calculations where forward chaining is carried out. Next, the notion of line-value justification is described. This operation is applied in the backward chaining process, also on the base of the previously introduced four-valued logic. The paper describes two exact algorithms which serve for the forward and backward chaining processes. These algorithms make it possible to be implemented by a computer program, resulting in an efficient inference engine of an expert system. The achieved result enhances the reliability and usability of the intelligent software systems which is extremely important in embedded environments.

Dynamic seismic analysis of bridge using response spectrum and time history method

Dynamic analysis is very important to better understand the performance of structural elements of a bridge. For this purpose, a seismic analysis of an Algerian highway bridge designed with the new Algerian seismic bridge regulation (RPOA-2008) was carried out using linear and nonlinear analyses. Therefore, response spectrum, time history analyses were performed to evaluate the seismic responses of the designed bridge. The performance of the designed bridge is assessed using 10 ground motion records. The proposed methodology allows an efficient comparison of the seismic response of the bridge in terms of base shear forces, bending moment and displacements. Finally, the paper concludes with a discussion of the specific outcomes.

Localization in a Head-Related Transfer Function-based virtual audio synthesis using additional high-pass and low-pass filtering of sound sources

Listening tests were carried out for investigating the localization judgments of untrained subjects through equalized headphones and with HRTF synthesis. The investigation was made on the basis of the former 'Graphical User Interface for Blind Persons' project in order to determine the possibilities of a 2D virtual sound screen and headphone playback. 50 untrained subjects evaluated a virtual audio display in front of the listener using different horizontal and vertical resolutions on a 2D surface. A listening test using white and filtered noise signals was followed by a special investigation using simple high-pass and low-pass filtering of the original sound in order to increase correct vertical localization judgments. The simulation uses high-pass filtering for higher elevations and low-pass filtering for lower elevations in a 5 × 2 and a 3 × 3 spatial resolution. Results of the listening test will be presented and the efficiency of the filtering in correct localization judgments will be discussed. © 2007 The Acoustical Society of Japan.

On modeling and identification of empirical partially intelligible white noise processes

The paper discusses the identification of the empirical, partially intelligible white noise processes generated by deterministic numerical algorithms. The introduced fuzzy-random complementary approach can identify the inner hidden correlational patterns of the empirical white noise process if the process has a real hidden structure of this kind. We have shown how the characteristics of autocorrelated white noise processes change as the order of autocorrelation increases. Based on this approach, the original empirical white noise process transformed by the autocorrelation operator can be considered to be random data series (randomlikeness), and at the same time, it has function-like characteristics (functionlikeness), as well. We approach the analysis of the mentioned complementarity by modeling the autocorrelation functions of the empirical white noise processes using tensor product (TP) model transformation.

The agricultural sector faces numerous challenges and opportunities that influence farmers’ stability and competitiveness, while enterprises are increasingly required to report on their efforts to promote environmental sustainability. In Hungary, sustainability reporting is regulated by law. The relevant requirements entered into force on 1 January 2024 and will be gradually extended to an increasing number of companies. This study examines the economic and financial performance of a sample of Hungarian agricultural enterprises between 2019 and 2023, with particular emphasis on the rate of sustainable development. Financial indicators were employed to evaluate the performance of the enterprises, while sustainable growth was assessed using the five-step DuPont model. The application of this methodology supports improvements in cost-efficiency, asset optimisation, and the mitigation of financial risks. In addition to the financial analysis, the sustainability reports of large companies subject to the reporting requirements of the Hungarian Accounting Act were also examined using qualitative content analysis. The analysis reveals correlations between indicators of economic and environmental sustainability. The findings of the research contribute to the development of sustainable agricultural policy, support the design of targeted subsidy schemes, and promote the effective implementation of sustainability reporting practices. Although the present study is limited to agricultural enterprises applying double-entry bookkeeping and, for sustainability reporting purposes, includes only the TOP 500 companies, it provides a foundation for a broader sustainability analysis of agricultural enterprises in the future.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly becoming a strategic driver of competitiveness in supply chain management (SCM), enhancing flexibility, efficiency, and responsiveness. However, successful adoption depends not only on technology but also on managerial attitudes and organizational culture. Understanding this behavioral dimension is essential in explaining how leadership influences AI-driven adaptability and resilience. This study develops a conceptual, interdisciplinary framework linking management theory, organizational psychology, and SCM to examine how leadership styles—particularly servant, transactional, and transformational—shape AI integration and adaptability. The proposed triadic model identifies managerial attitudes, AI-supported decision-making, and information sharing as key behavioral and technological enablers of supply chain flexibility. Findings highlight that innovation-oriented leadership and strong information-sharing cultures accelerate AI adoption and strengthen adaptive capacity, while hierarchical, risk-averse attitudes constrain its impact. The study contributes to a behavioral perspective of SCM, showing that flexibility in AI-enabled supply chains results from the interaction between human and artificial intelligence.

Bananas, coffee and palm oil: The trade of agricultural commodities in the framework of the EU-Colombia free trade agreement

Generally, research and studies about commodities focus on price trends, analysis in terms of international competitiveness, market position structure, rate of net exports, market share, and concentration index. This paper has developed an analysis of the most influential agricultural commodities traded from Colombia to European Union, which are bananas, coffee, and palm oil. Analyzing the economic and commercial effects in two traditional agricultural commodities from Colombia (bananas and coffee) with the rise of palm oil as a commodity in the trade relation with its partner; the European Union. The structure draws from the overview of general aspects and the behavior of Colombian foreign trade, as diversification of export products and trade partners, to focus on the characteristics of the trade relationship between the European Union and Colombia. The aim is analyze the proportional relation between bananas, coffee, and palm oil exported to the EU, according to three indicators, the volume of production, exports share, and trade value, from 2008 until 2019, identifying the trends before and after the implementation of the free trade agreement. Finally, with the coefficient correlation, determine the agricultural commodity that has the strongest and positive relationship with the total agricultural exports value from Colombia to the European Union.
