The measurement of social capacity / deficit in the regions of the Scandinavian and Visegrad countries

Publication Name: Teruleti Statisztika

Publication Date: 2016-01-01

Volume: 56

Issue: 2

Page Range: 158-182

Description:

The focus of the research was to measure and compare social capacity and anomie between four Scandinavian states (Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden) and four post-socialist countries (the Visegrad Group: Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia) in order to analyze similarities and differences. The analysis was conducted utilizing both micro and macro approaches. Four new complex indicators were developed from the social well-being module of the 2012 6. ESS survey. These new complex indicators were used to measure the quality of the society, the quality of life and subjective wellbeing. Macro level analysis consisted of indicators from the database of Eurostat Regions and the 2011 Census that are most used in professional literature. The characteristics of each country then the features of the regions (60 NUTS2 field units) were analyzed using data obtained from micro level surveys utilizing the newly created complex indicators. Following this step, a regional analysis of the aforementioned macro level indicators was completed. The results of these two levels of analysis were compared cross-nationally and regionally. Significant differences were found between the Scandinavian group and the Visegrad group revealing underlying connections supporting the results of other European studies. Namely that the 2008 crisis with respect to subjective well being created far more trauma for individuals in countries with a weak social safety net. The analysis also demonstrated that using complex indicators as well as both a micro and macro approach complement each other bringing about an understanding of nuances and subtle differences not found in singular approaches thus creating a more accurate assessment of the status of the society.

Hierarchical robust control for in-wheel motor vehicles

Publication Name: Proceedings of the Mini Conference on Vehicle System Dynamics Identification and Anomalies

Publication Date: 2014-01-01

Volume: 2014-January

Issue: Unknown

Page Range: 71-81

Description:

The paper proposes the design of an integrated vehicle control system for in-wheel electric vehicle, which is able to track road geometry with a predefined reference velocity. In the design the lateral and longitudinal dynamics are combined using the in-wheel motors and the steering system. The design methodology of the hierarchical control is proposed. The required control signals are calculated by applying high-level controllers, which are designed using a robust control method. For the control design the model is augmented with weighting functions specified by the performance demands. The actuators generating the necessary control signals in order to achieve the requirements for which low-level tracking controllers are designed.

The ectoparasitic burden and prevention of some huntable cloven hoofed animals

Publication Name: Tierarztliche Umschau

Publication Date: 2017-10-01

Volume: 72

Issue: 10

Page Range: 378-386

Description:

This review is an attempt to show the worldwide ectoparasitic burden in deer and antilopes with the aid of some case samples. Animals kept in zoos, lodges/ breeding farms and also in the wild, can considerable suffer and die under the burdens of parasites. The environment plays at this certainly an important role, too. Grooming and mutulism (a symbiotic relationship between two species of organism where both organism benefit from the association), vegetation and climate are only some of these factors. Not least, it should be also mentioned, that certain diseases, which can be transferred by parasites, can not only have intraspecific, but also extraspecific transmission possibilities.

Beliefs about advertising in China: Empirical evidence from Hong Kong and Shanghai consumers

Publication Name: Journal of Consumer Marketing

Publication Date: 2010-11-01

Volume: 27

Issue: 7

Page Range: 594-603

Description:

Purpose: This paper aims to examine metropolitan Chinese Generation Xers' attitude toward advertising and to determine whether the ranking for ad likeability and dislikeability attributes are the same across Hong Kong and Shanghai. Design/methodology/approach: A telephone interview of 200 respondents in each city was conducted using a strategy of matched samples. Generation Xers residing in Hong Kong and Shanghai were selected as these two segments are politically more uniform now than before, share similar economic and business structures, and are exposed to the same goods and services. Respondents were first asked to recall three television advertisements they liked/disliked and give as many reasons as possible to explain why they liked/disliked them. They were also asked about their beliefs in advertising. Findings: The results show that the respondents from both cities find advertising "interesting and entertaining", but "devious". In terms of likeable attributes, they like "entertaining", while "style" is the most disliked attribute. The main difference between the two groups was found in attribute rating. The study concludes by offering several explanations for these variations. Originality/value: In this study, instead of requesting respondents to interpret what had appeared in the prints or commercials, it examines respondents' verbal descriptions of how they perceived television commercials. This method affords an opportunity to have respondents more freely express their thoughts and feelings about the topic under investigation. © Emerald Group Publishing Limited.

Volume: 59

Issue: 3-4

Page Range: 471-489

Description:

Let β > 1, Θ = 1/β, D = {0, 1, . . . , [β]}. In this paper we continue the investigation of the numbers which have only one expansion in the form ∑n=1∞ εnΘn with ε ∈ DN. We present a method for the determination of the Hausdorff dimension of the set of these numbers in the so-called big case, illustrated with interesting examples.

Chemical decontamination of steam generators used in nuclear power plants III. Comparative study of the corrosion and surface analytical effects of the decontamination technologies

Publication Name: Korrozios Figyelo

Publication Date: 2009-12-01

Volume: 49

Issue: 6

Page Range: 119-129

Description:

Our earlier publications have revealed that version of the AP-CITROX technology applied for chemical decontamination of the steam generators (SGs) of the Paks NPP was not adequately developed considering its chemical, analytic and corrosion aspects. To replace the AP-CITROX procedure, novel "soft" chemical decontamination technologies have been elaborated at the Institute of Radiochemistry and Radioecology of the University of Pannonia. Present paper deals with the comparative study of the corrosion and surface chemical effects of the novel chemical decontamination technologies. The chemical composition and morphology of the oxide layer formed on the inner side of the austenitic stainless steel specimens before and after the full decontamination process were studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), equipped with an energy dispersive X-ray microanalyzer (EDX). The passivity of the inner surfaces of the stainless steel samples was studied by voltammetry. The full decontamination cycle has been performed under laboratory conditions in a pilot plant circulation system elaborated earlier. In various steps of the chemical procedure the concentration of the main alloying components (Fe, Cr, Ni) dissolved from the surface oxide layer into the decontamination solutions was determined by ICP optical emission spectrometric (ICP-OES) method. Based upon the ICP-OES results the average thickness of the oxide layer removed from the surface into the solutions was calculated. The activity concentrations of the radionuclides (60Co, 58Co, 110Ag, 54Mn) measured in the decontamination solutions allow us to draw conclusions concerning the efficiency of the main steps of the technology and depth distribution of the radionuclides on the treated steel surfaces.

Quantitative determination of protein of bacterial origin

No authors available

Publication Name: TrAC - Trends in Analytical Chemistry

Publication Date: 2001-01-01

Volume: 20

Issue: 1

Page Range: 42-48

Description:

Several methods have been developed for the determination of the proportion of nitrogen-containing substances of microbial origin in the digestive tracts of cattle. These include assays that use nucleic acids and adenosine triphosphate as indicators, radioisotopes 35S, 15N, 32P and 33P incorporated into bacterial protein and phospholipids, duodenal amino acid composition with amino-ethylphosphonic acid, diaminopimelic acid and D-alanine (D-Ala) contents as indicators. On the basis of the data in the literature on D-amino acid content of milk and milk products the authors came to the conclusion that D-glutamic acid (D-Glu) and D-aspartic acid (D-Asp) can be considered as markers for proteins of bacterial origin. To demonstrate this, experiments have been carried out and some of the results are reported here. © 2001 Elsevier Science B.V.

Parasitism of different life stages and phenology of the horse-chestnut leafminer ( Cameraria ohridella ) and its parasitoids

Publication Name: Acta Phytopathologica Et Entomologica Hungarica

Publication Date: 2009-12-01

Volume: 44

Issue: 2

Page Range: 295-313

Description:

The horse-chestnut leafminer is a new pest which was established in North-West Hungary ca. 10 years prior to these investigations. Due to the very limited time, there are relatively few studies on the parasitoid community of the moth and its connection with the leafminer host. Authors used twig-isolators to find out which larval/pupal instars are mostly parasitized and by which chalcidoid species. They also made an attempt to calculate density curves of different developmental stages of the moth and to compare them with flight curves of the parasitoids. Experiences indicated that 4-week-old larval (pupal) instars were parasitized to the highest degree. The most frequent parasitoids were Pediobius saulius and Pnigalio agraules . Statements about a poor synchronization between moth and parasitoids were confirmed but possibility of a shift in swarming times on location was suggested. Different methods to calculate rate of parasitism were compared and evaluated. © 2009 Akadémiai Kiadó.
