Modal Distribution Diversification and Intermodal Transport Analysis in Europe: A Comprehensive Investigation of Freight Transport Patterns

Background: This study analyzes modal distribution patterns across Europe and 28 European countries, employing clustering analysis to identify trends in transport mode utilization. The research quantifies logistics diversification, examining extreme cases and addressing gaps in understanding modal transitions affecting environmental and economic performance. Methods: Statistical testing using compositional data transformations revealed significant differences between modal distributions (p < 0.001), justifying country-specific and European-level assessments. K-means clustering was applied to identify groups of countries with similar modal distribution patterns. Results: Maritime and road transport constitute the predominant modes across all analyzed countries in the study period. Among terrestrial modes, road transport dominates universally, exhibiting systematic growth, while rail transport experienced a corresponding decline. This trend directly contradicts European sustainability objectives promoting modal shift toward environmentally superior alternatives. Romania demonstrates the highest logistics diversification with the most balanced modal distribution, while Portugal exhibits the lowest diversification due to maritime transport dominance. K-means clustering positioned Portugal within a maritime-dominated group alongside Greece, Cyprus, and Ireland, reflecting similar geographical constraints and distribution patterns. Conclusions: The findings reveal critical aspects requiring further investigation concerning European modal distribution trends that challenge current policy effectiveness, highlighting the divergence between observed transport patterns and stated sustainability goals. These results provide essential insights for addressing persistent modal shift challenges in European transport systems.

The influence of hybrid leadership in sustainable women entrepreneurial performance

In the contemporary era, strategic leadership style plays significant role in entrepreneurial performance. The key purpose of this study is to examine the influence of hybrid (self, shared and opinion) leadership in women entrepreneurial performance towards sustainable growth. This mixed method study investigated data in two ways. First, the study analyzed the data and measured the hypotheses employing the partial least squares structured equation model (PLS-SEM) in SmartPLS software 4 packages. Second, fsQCA explores multiple causal relationships between the constructs. The fsQCA results claim that the multiple causal relationships among the shared, self and opinion leadership have strong significant impact on women entrepreneurial performance. In particular, it is addressed that different entrepreneurial performances are positively associated with the extent of self, shared and opinion leadership. Theoretically, this study contributes to the understanding of women leadership behavior in entrepreneurial performance with a mixed statistical analysis. Optimization of the time-dependent traveling salesman problem using interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy sets

This study proposes a new model and approach for solving a realistic extension of the Time-Dependent Traveling Salesman Problem, by using the concept of distance between interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy sets. For this purpose, we developed an interval-valued fuzzy degree repository based on the relations between rush hour periods and traffic regions in the "city center areas", and then we utilized the interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy weighted arithmetic average to aggregate fuzzy information to be able to quantify the delay in any given trip between two nodes (cities). The proposed method is illustrated by a simple numerical example.

Dynamic simulation of particle deposition on the blade leading edge with film cooling in gas turbines

Particle deposition on the leading edge was investigated in gas turbines numerically. The research investigated the effects of the inclination angle and blowing ratio on the deposition thickness, and cooling effectiveness of the leading edge. Particles were released from the main inlet of the computational domain. The deposition on the leading edge was judged using the double deposition model. The results show that the deposition thickness is inversely proportional to the blowing ratio. The deposition thicknesses for 0°, 20°, 40°, and 60° inclination angles decrease by 7.82 %, 6.84 %, 7.44 %, and 5.34 %, with the increase in the blowing ratio from 0.5 to 2.0 at 30 s. The deposition thicknesses with four inclination angles decrease by 6.79 %, 7.24 %, 6.79 %, and 5.34 % by increasing the blowing ratio from 0.5 to 2.0 at 60 s. A region with a deposition thickness coefficient below 0.3 is located on the side of the leading edge. The area of the region increases with the increases of the inclination angle and blowing ratio. Compared with the deposition thickness of 0°, 20°, and 40° inclination angles, the deposition thickness of 60° inclination angle is the least with the blowing ratios of 0.5,1.0 and 1.5. The difference in deposition thickness at 60° and 20° inclination angles is 0.3 % with the blowing ratio 2.0. The inclination angle has little effect on the deposition thickness under the blowing ratio of 2.0. The cooling effectiveness decreases with the increases in the blowing ratio and inclination angle. The deposition thickness at a 60° inclination angle is lower than that at a 40° inclination angle. The best combination of inclination angle and the blowing ratio is 60° and 2.0 compared with others.

Assessing the Urban Climate Resilience of Cities in Hungary Using an Index-based Approach

Climate resilience in urban areas is increasingly critical in the face of climate change, particularly in regions where climate variability poses significant challenges. This study introduces the Climate Resilience Index for Town Sustainability, a novel, multidimensional framework designed to evaluate the resilience of 19 Hungarian cities, including Budapest and county capitals. The framework incorporates 41 parameters across environmental, social, and infrastructural dimensions, addressing significant gaps in existing resilience assessments by providing a region-specific, holistic evaluation. The research employs advanced statistical techniques, including principal component analysis and k-means clustering, to analyse the data sourced from the Hungarian Central Statistical Office and the National Adaptation Geo-Information System. This analysis revealed substantial variability in resilience scores among Hungarian county capitals, with Békéscsaba achieving the highest scores due to its extensive green infrastructure, renewable energy adoption, and lower proportion of vulnerable populations. In contrast, Budapest recorded one of the lowest scores, highlighting challenges such as limited green spaces, high population density, and elevated energy consumption. Clustering analysis grouped the cities into eight distinct categories, emphasising the role of geographic and climatic factors in shaping urban resilience. The findings demonstrate the critical importance of targeted interventions, such as expanding green infrastructure, improving energy efficiency, and enhancing sustainable practices. By offering actionable insights for policymakers, this index not only advances resilience research but also provides a replicable framework adaptable to other regions. Its innovative approach to integrating multidimensional parameters represents a significant contribution to the understanding and improvement of urban climate resilience in a changing world.

The global consumption of dried mushrooms has increased worldwide because of their rich nutritional value and culinary versatility. Dehydration methods such as sun drying, hot air drying, freeze drying, and microwave drying are employed to prolong the shelf life of a food product. These methods can also affect the food product’s nutritional value and the final product’s microbial profile. Each technique affects the retention of essential nutrients like vitamins, minerals, and bioactive compounds differently. Additionally, these techniques vary in their effectiveness at reducing microbial load, impacting the dried mushrooms’ safety and shelf life. This review addresses the gap in understanding how different dehydration methods influence dried mushrooms’ nutritional quality and microbial safety, which is crucial for optimizing their processing and consumption. It targets researchers, food processors, and consumers seeking to improve the quality and safety of dried mushrooms. This review comprehensively examines the impact of major dehydration techniques, including sun drying, hot air drying, microwave drying, and freeze drying, on the nutritional and microbial profiles of dried mushrooms. Each method is evaluated for its effectiveness in preserving essential nutrients and reducing microbial load. Current research indicates that freeze drying is particularly effective in preserving nutritional quality, while hot air and microwave drying significantly reduce microbial load. However, more well-designed studies are needed to fully understand the implications of these methods for safety and nutritional benefits. These findings are valuable for optimizing dehydration methods for high-quality dried mushrooms that are suited for culinary and medicinal use.

Industry 5.0 as seen through its academic literature: an investigation using co-word analysis

Industry 5.0 marks a pivotal advancement in manufacturing and bridges cutting-edge technology with human creativity to enhance efficiency, sustainability, and workplace dynamics. Despite its growing relevance, there remains a significant knowledge gap due to the lack of comprehensive reviews that synthesize the breadth of research and practice in this rapidly evolving field. This paper presents a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of Industry 5.0 and examines a corpus of 915 journal articles from the Scopus database, spanning from January 2016 to May 2024. The study aims to map the evolving landscape and thematic trajectories of Industry 5.0, highlighting its integration with advanced technologies such as AI, IoT, and human-centric systems. The findings indicate significant trends in the field, including a shift from theoretical underpinnings to practical applications and the growing emphasis on sustainability and human–machine collaboration. These thematic areas highlight the transformative potential of Industry 5.0 to enhance operational efficiency, workplace dynamics, and environmental sustainability within the industrial sector. By employing bibliometric and co-word analysis, this study addresses existing knowledge gaps and provides a nuanced understanding of the interdisciplinary interactions and future directions in Industry 5.0. The findings reveal the critical role of emerging technologies in driving the next industrial revolution, suggesting that future research should focus on integrating these technologies with socio-economic objectives to fully realize the potential of Industry 5.0. In terms of originality, this study sets a foundation for future explorations and practical implementations that can contribute to more sustainable, efficient, and human-centric industrial practices.

Exploring the state-of-the-art of halal food research using latent Dirichlet allocation

The rapid growth of the halal food (HF) industry has created a pressing need for a comprehensive synthesis of the existing body of knowledge. However, there remains a significant gap in the literature regarding the key themes, patterns, and emerging areas in HF research. This study addresses this gap by systematically analyzing the HF literature to identify key themes, patterns, and emerging areas of interest in the HF field. The study employs latent Dirichlet allocation (LDA)-based topic modeling to uncover and map the underlying themes in the HF literature, analyzing 738 publications from Scopus to determine the main topics and trends in HF research. The analysis reveals six main topics in HF research: (1) HF quality, safety assessment, and production methods; (2) HF supply chain management; (3) HF detection and authentication methods; (4) HF and Islamic culture; (5) HF and consumer behavior; and (6) HF and tourism and hospitality. The study identifies an overall increasing trend in HF research over the years, with particular emphasis on HF supply chain management and consumer behavior, while HF and Islamic culture received comparatively lower levels of attention. This study offers a novel and comprehensive analysis of the HF literature using LDA-based topic modeling, highlighting the key themes and patterns in the field. The insights derived from this study hold significant theoretical and practical implications for researchers, policymakers, manufacturers, retailers, and consumers in the rapidly growing HF industry. By identifying the main areas of focus and research gaps, the study serves as a valuable foundation for further research and analysis in the field, ultimately contributing to the ongoing development and evolution of HF research.
