Description:

In cases of Acute Circulatory Failure, fluid therapy is a commonly used intervention to stabilize heart function. However, the effectiveness of fluid therapy is not directly predictable, and the therapy can also be harmful. Physiological models can be used to predict fluid responsiveness - describing the effectiveness of fluid therapy for the patient - but require solving complex parameter identification problems. The current study aims to develop a Physics Informed Neural Network, specifically a NeuralODE-based parameter identification method for the Three Chamber cardiovascular model, which has the potential to be used to define a novel perfusion marker. The method is developed and validated on a clinical data set collected in model animal experiments.

AN ACCELERATED BENDERS DECOMPOSITION ALGORITHM FOR THE MULTI-ITEM FIXED-CHARGE TRANSPORTATION PROBLEM

In today’s industrial and service sectors the role of transportation is unavoidable. Due to this importance, an optimized transportation plan with minimum transportation costs can be a favour for the managers. In this study a multi-item fixed-charge transportation problem with capacitated multiple transportation mode is considered. As such problem is of high degree of complexity, we focus on the Benders decomposition approach to solve it. For this aim, first the classical Benders decomposition approach is developed for the problem. This is the first time in the literature that the Benders decomposition algorithm is developed for this problem. In continue, as another novelty, an accelerated benders decomposition algorithm is developed for the problem by adding some valid inequalities to the classical Benders decomposition algorithm. These valid inequalities can effectively influence the performance of the classical Benders decomposition algorithm. Several test problems with various sizes are generated to test the proposed solution approaches. The test problems are solved by the classical branch and bound algorithm and the proposed classical and accelerated Benders decomposition algorithms. According to the obtained results the accelerated Benders decomposition algorithm performs better than others in terms of reporting optimal solution and CPU running time.

3D printing technologies are now extensively utilized across numerous industries and scientific fields due to their ability to facilitate the practical testing of various design concepts cost-effectively and sustainably. This research focuses on PLA-based materials, known for their ease of recyclability. FDM printing technology was employed to identify the optimal printing layout for 3D-printed reinforcement elements in concrete, as this is not a standard parameter. Various material compositions and layout structures were analyzed using multiple printing strategies to find the most effective combination for innovatively enhancing the stiffness and strength of concrete structures. The GOM Aramis 5M DIC system, coupled with FDM printing technology, was used in this investigation, marking a novel approach in civil engineering.

Identifying Critical Areas in Industrial Employment: Emerging Hot Spot Analysis of Workforce Expectations

This paper investigates the spatiotemporal distribution of employment expectations in industry (BS-IEME-BAL) between 1992 and 2025, using DG ECFIN Business and Consumer Surveys (BCS) data. The main aim is to identify areas with critical dynamics of the industrial labour market and to assess regional trends in labour fluctuations. The method used is based on Emerging Hot Spot Analysis (EHSA) in GIS, which allows the detection of regions where employment growth or decline has a persistent, oscillating, or emerging trend. The algorithm classifies areas according to the intensity and persistence of variations, allowing for anticipation of the impact of economic transformations on the industrial labour market. The study highlights critical regions where public policies can intervene to mitigate the negative effects or to support sustainable employment growth. Identifying hot spots in the industry contributes to the development of adaptive territorial strategies, based on spatial data, for the efficient management of structural changes in the labour market.

Rolling Contact fatigue Defects and a New Approach to Rail Material Management

This article describes the current method of calculating the Hertzian contact stress and the corresponding shear stress occurring in the rail head at the rail-wheel contact and highlights the false sense of security that this approach creates among experts. The authors then present a method that is easy to implement in spreadsheet software and provides realistic results. In light of the results obtained, it is shown that it is not possible to prevent defects induced by the occurring stresses but only to keep them within limits by means of rail machining, which is a realistic objective, without significantly limiting the throughput capacity of the railway track. The combined effects of rail machining and natural wear cause the cross-sectional area and inertia and thus, the load-bearing capacity of the rails to decrease continuously. If the limit is exceeded, the rails may be installed again in less heavily used track sections and continue functioning. At the end of their service life, the track owner sells them as used rail scrap. If possible, recasting them as electro-steels, can significantly reduce the production costs and the amount of CO2 emitted during production.

This study investigates the potential of the cultural and creative industries (CCIs) in the rural Szigetköz region in North-Western Hungary, a cross-border area between the Danube and the Moson Danube with significant natural resources. The research examines the situation of the CCIs to answer the following question: What are the latent potentials of the CCI area in the region? The study aims first to present the meaning and importance of the concept of CCI in rural and regional development, then assess the importance of CCI through focus group discussions with the stakeholders of the CCI, and finally, a case study of the region, which is a civil association. As a result of the research, the region needs to rely on several pillars, e.g., for the city of Győr to rely on, besides the automotive industry, the creative economy. The paper concludes with suggestions and further research directions for the regional development of CCIs in rural areas.

Measuring the Effectiveness of High-Intensity Virtual Training Programs in Stroke Survivors

The objective of this paper is to determine and compare the effects of two high-intensity virtual training programs, with different frequencies and standard care after stroke. First-time ischaemic stroke patients in subacute stage were randomized into three groups: 1 session/day high-intensity virtual training (VT1; n=20), 2 sessions/day high-intensity virtual training (VT2, n=20), standard care (CON, n=20). Each group performed a 5-week-long training program (1 hour/session, 5 days/week). Results were measured before and after the interventions. Our primary outcome was the modified Rankin Scale (mRS), which indicates the degree of independence in daily activities and the severity of disability at stroke survivors. Secondary outcomes were the Barthel Index (BI), the EuroQoL Visual Analogue Scale (EQ VAS), the Berg Balance Scale (BBS), the 6-minute walking test (6mWT), the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), and posturograpic examination in four different positions (WEO, WEC, NEO, NEC). VT2 and VT1 groups improved significantly all of the results (all p<0,05). The result of the mRS, BI, BBS, 6mWT, BDI improved significantly (all p <0.05) in CON group, but there was no clinically meaningful changes in EQ VAS, WEO, WEC, NEO, and NEC (all p>0.05).Comparing the groups’ measured 10 results: VT2 in 9 cases (mRS, BI, EQ VAS, BBS, 6mWT, BDI, WEC, NEO, NEC), VT1 in 5 cases (mRS, 6mWT, BDI, WEC, NEC) showed greater extent improvement than CON group, furthermore the improvements of mRS and BI were significantly higher at VT2, than at VT1 (all p<0.05). Our results show that the high-intensity virtual training programs could be good opportunities for subacute ischaemic stroke patients to improve their clinical symptoms, mobility, and quality of life. Furthermore, increasing daily frequency of the training, could also increase the beneficial effects. This research is particularly important because the utilized therapies have the potential to yield significant economic benefits, by reducing long-term healthcare costs and improving overall patient outcomes.

The impact of financial development and economic complexity on energy and carbon intensity: evidence of the top 10 complex countries

This paper explores the impact of economic complexity and financial development on energy efficiency through two indicators: energy intensity and carbon intensity, within the top 10 complex economies. Other control variables, such as economic growth, urbanization, and human capital, are also included in the models. Random and fixed-effects estimators with heteroskedasticity-consistent standard errors were used. Clustered random and fixed-effects estimators were considered to handle within-group (cluster) dependence. The study utilized the Driscoll-Kraay (DK) method to address non-spherical disturbances and ensure consistent standard errors and robustness against dependence. Feasible Generalized Least Squares (FGLS) considered entity-specific autocorrelation, and System Generalized Method of Moments (Sys-GMM) accommodated unobserved panel-level effects, were also employed. Our findings reveal that economic complexity is crucial in reducing carbon and energy intensity, highlighting the significance of fostering technological sectors to diversify and sophisticate the productive structure. However, the influence of financial development on these intensity measures remains ambiguous and necessitates further exploration. We propose policy implications aimed at boosting technological sectors, facilitating a green transition in the economy, and advancing the adoption of renewable energy technologies.

OPPORTUNITIES AND PERSPECTIVES OF FORMATION OF THE MOUNTAIN TOURISM CLUSTER IN ALMATY AGGLOMERATION

In the current conditions of sustainable development, the main reason for the importance of creating tourism clusters in mountainous areas is determined by competitiveness, the availability of attractive tourist facilities, and the possibility of achieving economic development by increasing the number of tourists. This is due to the fact that recreational resources and landscape features of mountainous areas significantly increase the tourist potential of the territory and contribute to the development of tourism. In connection with this, Almaty agglomeration is one of the most favourable regions for the creation and development of the first mountain tourism cluster in the Republic of Kazakhstan. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to explore the opportunities and prospects of mountain tourism cluster development in Almaty agglomeration. The study began with a literature review of the theoretical and practical foundations of mountain tourism cluster formation. The main problems of the enterprises-participants of the mountain tourism cluster and ways to solve them became known in the course of a specially conducted interview. The interview was based on 4 questions pre-designed for tourism industry entrepreneurs participating in the cluster located in the agglomeration and 63 business managers voluntarily participated. As a result of the research the main problems of enterprises-participants of mountain tourism cluster in Almaty agglomeration are revealed and the structural model of mountain tourism cluster development is developed. The model was aimed at mobilising tourism and recreational facilities and service organisations into a unified environment that would form the basis for the formation and development of a mountain tourism cluster. As a competitive advantage of Almaty agglomeration the presence of unique picturesque wildlife, as well as the occupation of such types of active recreation as sports tourism and extreme tourism is defined. Thus, having studied the development potential of mountain tourism cluster in Almaty agglomeration, natural resources and attractions, as well as the current state of the tourism industry, the need to develop a state strategic plan for the development of tourism cluster in Almaty agglomeration was determined. The said plan should fully incorporate marketing strategies, infrastructure development, socio-economic development, environmental cleanliness and safety, and protection of stakeholder rights. The results of this study will be effective in creating a mountain tourism cluster in the Almaty agglomeration, attracting visitors from around the world and stimulating the local economy.
