Mechanical Fatigue Test of Individual Dental Implants

Publication Name: Advances in Transdisciplinary Engineering

Publication Date: 2024-01-01

Volume: 59

Issue: Unknown

Page Range: 501-508

Description:

Since subperiosteal dental implants are custom made implants, design and manufacturing must be carried out with great care, solving comprehensive mechanical analyses. In this work, we performed a 3-day fatigue test on a 3D-printed titanium implant in a custom-designed mechanical testing device. After three days of average chewing loading, no residual deformation was observed. Moreover, no cracks or inclusions were observed when examining the CT scans. Nor did the printing defects on the implant cause any problems. The tested implant showed satisfactory results and was considered to be suitable for implantation. With the case study, we also showed that the new experimental methodology developed for the mechanical examination of subperiosteal implants is suitable for fatigue examinations of implants.

Mapping IT and Management Challenges in Small and Micro-Businesses: A Path to Digital Maturity in Manufacturing †

Publication Name: Engineering Proceedings

Publication Date: 2024-01-01

Volume: 79

Issue: 1

Page Range: Unknown

Description:

Small and micro-businesses often struggle with poor data accuracy due to a lack of dedicated labor force for non-core business functions. The required efforts and costs associated with improving data accuracy, such as setting up and operating an adequate inventory management system, are unpredictable for these businesses. Despite the data-intensive nature of operating specialized software like MES and WMS, the decision to invest in excessive data manipulation can be challenging for micro-entities, even with the potential benefits. This study aims to empirically determine the challenges, risks, and other non-financial decision factors micro-enterprises face when establishing effective data management and utilization practices. A data model was developed based on interviews with 17 small business manufacturers and service companies to support the essential data entry requirements of micro-businesses. The findings support the concept of a SAAS (Software as a Service) product tailored to the needs of these businesses. Furthermore, this research highlights the under-researched areas of logistics processes and data management in small businesses.

The Influence of Managerial Values on Corporate Social Performance of SMEs in the UK: A Moderated Mediation Analysis

Publication Name: Decision Making Applications in Management and Engineering

Publication Date: 2024-01-01

Volume: 7

Issue: 2

Page Range: 530-558

Description:

Research on the micro-foundations of corporate social performance (CSP) in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) is limited. Building on upper echelons, stakeholders, and Schwartz value theories, this paper aims to investigate the influence of managerial values on SMEs’ CSP with the mediating role of managers’ CSR orientation (CSRO). The study also explores how managerial experience and educational levels moderate the mediating effects of CSRO. The study was conducted on a sample of 248 top managers from SMEs in the UK using path analysis, regression analysis, mediation analysis, and moderated mediation analysis. The findings indicate that only self-transcendence and openness to change values significantly positively affect CSP, while self-enhancement and conservation values do not. In addition, philanthropic CSRO mediates the relationship between self-transcendence values and CSP, while none of the CSRO constructs mediate the openness to change-CSP relationship. For highly experienced managers, all value dimensions influence CSP significantly, with self-transcendence being mediated by philanthropic and legal CSROs. For master's graduates, self-enhancement positively impacts CSP, partly through economic CSRO. Openness to change positively affects CSP directly, without CSRO mediation. For PhD managers, only conservation values significantly impact CSP without the mediation role of CSRO. This study presents a novel moderated mediation model that analyzes the relationship between managers' values and CSP, using CSRO as a mediator and managers' experience and education level as moderators. Not only does this paper provide in-depth insights into personal CSP drivers in SMEs, but it also enlightens managers and education policymakers about the necessity of matching personal values with CSR concerns.

Environmental tax reform efficiency: Prerequisites and consequences

Publication Name: Journal of International Studies

Publication Date: 2024-01-01

Volume: 17

Issue: 4

Page Range: 90-108

Description:

Ensuring green transformations of the national economy requires the careful development of effective mechanisms for influencing the behaviour of key stakeholders who impact the environment. Implementing environmental tax reforms (ETR) to balance environmental and economic effects was successful for many European countries. Adapting this experience for developing countries requires considering the impact of national specifics on the expected result. In the first stage, the key consequences of the ETR implementation were assessed using the Differences-in-Differences method. In the second stage, the impact of economic, social, technological and institutional factors on the result of the ETR implementation was tested using panel regression modelling. The calculations showed that the positive effect of increasing the security of the national economy due to the ETR implementation occurs with a relatively long time lag. This indicates that ETR should be considered a strategic instrument for regulating the national economy and developed for the long term, supported by tactical operational tools. At the same time, the most significant manifestations of ETR are observed in the context of their impact on business activity and foreign trade. The key prerequisites for ensuring the ETR's effectiveness are the role of the fiscal and budgetary system, the welfare and gender equality of society, the spread of digital technologies among the population and the rule of law.

The role of employer's liability insurance in the field of health injuries to employees in Hungarian labour law

Publication Name: Rechtskultur

Publication Date: 2024-01-01

Volume: Unknown

Issue: Unknown

Page Range: 633-647

Description:

The employer’s liability insurance has a dual purpose: compensation for health injuries suffered by the employee, and exemption of the employer from payment obligations due to his liability. At the same time, many people misunderstand the actual role of the legal institution and attribute to it a function that it does not actually have. The research aims to present the rules and practices of employer’s liability insurance in Hungary and to place them in the system in comparison to the rules of employer’s liability for compensating occupational health injuries.

Discovery and Interactive Representation of the Dimensionless Parameter-Space of the Spring-Loaded Inverted Pendulum Model of Legged Locomotion Using Surface Interpolation

Publication Name: Springer Proceedings in Mathematics and Statistics

Publication Date: 2024-01-01

Volume: 454

Issue: Unknown

Page Range: 373-386

Description:

The spring-loaded inverted pendulum is a widely used model of legged locomotion. However, a complete map of the dimensionless parameter regions that correspond to the stable periodic solutions cannot be found in the literature. In this work, the three-dimensional space of two dimensionless physical parameters and the dimensionless total mechanical energy of the conservative system was discovered by means of numerical continuation. The fundament of the stability analysis of the piecewise-smooth system was provided by the numerical calculation of the fundamental solution matrices and the monodromy matrix. An effective iteration procedure based on the Nelder-Mead method is presented which tunes the model parameters in order to imitate the motion characteristics of specific animals and locomotion types such as running, trotting and galloping. The results are available online in the form of an interactive platform.

Publication Date: 2024-01-01

Volume: 19

Issue: 2

Page Range: 70-83

Description:

This study aims to elucidate the role of the Middle Corridor, also known as the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), in diversifying global trade routes and enhancing economic resilience amid geopolitical tensions. The paper examines the corridor’s impact on the economic and strategic interests of the countries it traverses, particularly Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Turkey, and the European Union. The analysis employs a multidimensional approach that includes historical context analysis, comparative route analysis, geographic information system mapping, and statistical analysis. Data were collected from various sources, including the World Bank, the International Trade Centre, and trade and economic policy reports from Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Turkey, and the European Union databases. Based on the methods used, the study compares the Middle Corridor with traditional trade routes such as the Northern Sea Route and the Suez Canal, highlighting its advantages and potential limitations. The Middle Corridor has emerged as a vital alternative, offering reduced transit times and enhanced trade security between Asia and Europe. The corridor has experienced a significant increase in cargo volume, reflecting its growing importance in international trade. Furthermore, the Middle Corridor contributes to the participating countries’ economic diversification and energy security, facilitating the movement of energy resources and other goods. The analysis revealed challenges such as political instability and infrastructural needs that could hinder the full potential of the Middle Corridor. Ultimately, the study underscores the strategic significance of the Trans-Caspian Route and the Zangezur Corridor in diversifying global trade routes and strengthening economic resilience in geopolitical tensions.

Real-Time Video Streaming in MPT-GRE Multipath Networks

Publication Name: 2024 32nd International Conference on Software Telecommunications and Computer Networks Softcom 2024

Publication Date: 2024-01-01

Volume: Unknown

Issue: Unknown

Page Range: Unknown

Description:

Real-time video streaming over a multipath system enhances the quality of video delivery by diminishing packet loss, latency, and congestion, which eventually improves service quality and user experience. This paper addresses technical issues related to multipath routing, including path selection, packet scheduling, and path matching, and proposes solutions such as MPT-GRE. The effectiveness of MPT-GRE is assessed using recognized metrics such as PSNR, SSIM, and MSE, which are used to quantify differences in video quality. The paper aims to explore challenges and solutions in real-time video streaming over multipath networks, mainly focusing on MPT-GRE, while also quantitatively assessing the impact of streaming on video quality. In this paper, we selected a set of videos with different resolutions and specifications from the Waterloo Streaming QoE Database. The study measures how video quality assessment metrics influence streamed video through a network using the MPT-GRE communication library and demonstrates the efficiency of real-time video streaming using MPT-GRE. This paper presents evidence that MPT-GRE improves high-resolution video streaming, leading to a smoother and more reliable experience. These enhancements are validated using metrics such as PSNR, SSIM, and MSE, demonstrating the effectiveness of MPT-GRE in maintaining high video quality in multipath network environments.

Calibration of Two Novel Segmentation Approaches by Synthetic Road Vehicle Vibrations

Publication Name: Tehnicki Vjesnik

Publication Date: 2024-01-01

Volume: 31

Issue: 6

Page Range: 2094-2101

Description:

Simulation of non-stationary random vibrations has motivated Packaging vibration testing for decades. Often, an event-detection algorithm decomposes Road vehicle vibrations when analyzing the recorded series. However, heuristics and subjective justifications are often in the papers, whereby the foremost concern is the validation of the non-stationarity of simulated signals. Furthermore, if a changepoint detection is inherent to the procedure, it is recommended to calibrate the detector. The current paper concerns the Receiver operating characteristics (ROC) of two novel algorithms and provides contextual support by Segment length distributions (SLD).
