Robot coverage path planning based on Iterative Structured Orientation

Description:

Coverage path planning for mobile robots aims to compute the shortest path that ensures the overlap of a given area, with applications in various domains. This paper proposes a coverage path planning strategy, referred to as Iterative Structured Orientation Coverage, which has two main advantages over the state-of-the-art, namely it is it versatile and it is capable to handle complex environments. The path planning strategy is expressed as three new approaches to coverage path planning. The suggested approaches are validated by simulation and experimental results. The source codes along with the test set are available in a public repository.

Towards a modern, integrated virtual laboratory system

The aim of this paper is to give an overview on virtual and remote laboratory systems and to evaluate current solutions focusing on feasibility and applicability in higher education. Based on the conclusions of this evaluation, a new set of requirements are established against a modern virtual laboratory system. Finally, an overview of state of the art infocommunication technologies, including cognitive infocommunication are presented, which can help create high user experience in the new virtual laboratory environment.

Shift in the annual growth cycle of grapevines (Vitis vinifera L.) in West Hungary

Regional climate change has noticeable influence on grape and wine production in West Hungary. Sopron and Zala wine-growing regions are among the potential winners of the climate change, previously rather unsuitable for viticulture. Over the past 30 years, the minimum and maximum temperatures significantly increased, the precipitation decreased, nevertheless, the convective precipitation increased by 14 days during the growing season. Each climate indicator has changed between 1986 and 2015 compared to the previous 30 years (1956-1985). One of the effects of climate change is a significant shift in the annual growth cycle of grapevines (phenological phases). Budbreak begins nearly 8 days earlier, flowering 7 days and the veraison 8 days, while the harvest has been shifted to a date 11 days respect to the previous period. The time between the budbreak and the flowering has shortened by 4.5 days.

The study reveals the connecting points, where the elements of knowledge management system as part of the corporate processes (studiously the quality systems) play an important role in the successful operation of the company. The characteristic features of quality culture are in focus, of which support is put in parallel with the characteristic features of the learning organisation’s culture phrased as a precondition of knowledge management system. With this comparison, the author guarantees the understanding that by solving quality problems and developing quality culture with supporting the elements of knowledge management system will contribute to reaching corporate success and strategic goals.

Assessing the impact of positive pressure ventilation on the building fire - A case study

Closed-space fires often occur in Hungary, so it is necessary to examine the effects of fires on building structures, taking into account Hungarian architectural features. Fires inside the buildings are characterized by intense heat development and smoke generation that can cause permanent damage to the building structures. Heat and smoke extraction during fire extinguishing is based usually on natural ventilation. Not only being a non-effective process also makes it more difficult to accomplish firefighting tasks. Experiments in this research have been conducted with mobile positive pressure ventilation (PPV) in order to increase the efficiency of the firefighting process and to reduce the adverse effects of fires. The tests have been carried out in unused buildings, providing real conditions. Practical application has been examined in order to reduce the harmful effects of closed-space fires and to provide guidance for professional use. This research based on observations and experiments contributes to enhancing fire safety.

The response of prion genic variation to selection for scrapie resistance in Hungarian indigenous sheep breeds

The authors studied the present status of Hungarian indigenous sheep breeds based on the genetic background of scrapie resistance. The aim of this investigation was to estimate the relative frequency of prion haplotypes, genotypes and risk categories, as well as to reveal the efficiency of the scrapie eradication programme achieved over the last decade. A novel approach in the characterisation of prion by using its genic variation was also implemented. The authors established that the proportion of deleterious sites (%) can be a useful indicator of the eradication programme. Based on a large sample size, it was confirmed that the scrapie resistance of the Cikta breed is low, and the classification of this breed according to risk category has not improved. However, the frequent genotype ARQ and risk category 3 can also be considered characteristic of the breed. The careful use of these genotypes is permitted and will contribute to the maintenance of breed diversity. The response of prion genic variation to selection for scrapie resistance in the other breeds (Tsigai, Milking Tsigai, White Racka, Black Racka and Gyimes Racka) was definitely successful.

Averaged vibration levels during courier parcel delivery service in small truck in Hungary

In recent years there continues to be an increase in courier parcel delivery services due to the growing global online economy and express parcel shipments. It is therefore important to measure and quantify the levels of vibration that occur inside the vehicle during transport, as it can be one of the primary sources of damages. The purpose of this study was to measure the averaged vibration levels in vertical, lateral and longitudinal directions that occur in courier delivery shipments from pickup to delivery involving small trucks over ground road transportation in Hungary. The recorded acceleration data were analyzed in terms of power spectral densities (PSD) and presented with overall Grms. The results of the separated afnd averaged vibration levels provide physical circumstances for various road and load conditions showing those frequency bands that have significant intensities.

Urban scaling of football followership on Twitter

Social sciences have an important challenge today to take advantage of new research opportunities provided by large amounts of data generated by online social networks. Because of its marketing value, sports clubs are also motivated in creating and maintaining a stable audience in social media. In this paper, we analyze followers of prominent footballs clubs on Twitter by obtaining their home locations. We then measure how city size is connected to the number of followers using the theory of urban scaling. The results show that the scaling exponents of club followers depend on the income of a country. These findings could be used to understand the structure and potential growth areas of global football audiences.
