The study of optical solitons in birefringent fibers is essential for understanding signal transmission stability in nonlinear dispersive systems. This article investigates the optical soliton solutions of the complex Ginzburg–Landau equations that take into account Hamiltonian perturbations and Kerr-type nonlinearity, modeling nonlinear wave propagation in birefringent fibers. The extended hyperbolic function and the generalized auxiliary equation methods are employed to obtain exact soliton solutions, followed by an analysis of their physical significance, offering insights into polarization effects, phase shifts and energy dissipation in optical fibers, aiding advancements in high-speed optical communication. It has been recognized that the proposed framework leads to a numerically convenient as well as mathematically sound mechanism for solving a wide range of nonlinear evolution equations. A 2D and 3D graphical presentation using certain parameterizations is included in this study for a deeper understanding of the solution’s physical attributes. The dependability of the methodology underscores its proficiency in addressing more intricate mathematical and engineering frameworks, thereby accentuating its broader significance.

Model-Free Control of Finger Dynamics in Prosthetic Hand Myoelectric-based Control Systems

This paper proposes an approach to the tuning of model-free controllers for the midcarpal joint angles, which are important finger angles that ensure the desired finger dynamics in prosthetic hand myoelectric-based control systems. The process in these control systems is characterized by fuzzy models that operate with myoelectric signals obtained from eight myoelectric sensors and past inputs and/or outputs, where the controlled outputs are five finger angles. Since the fuzzy models exhibit very good performance as shown in authors’ recent papers that produced evolving fuzzy models, they are used to simulate the process behaviour. The Multi Input-Multi Output (MIMO) control system structure consists of five separate Single Input-Single Output control loops with the most simple model-free controllers represented by intelligent Proportional (iP) controllers, separately designed and tuned for each finger. Digital simulation results are included to suggestively illustrate the very good performance of the control systems with iP controllers. The MIMO control system performance is compared with that of the same system but with Proportional-Integral controllers, which are optimally tuned in a model-based manner by a metaheuristic Grey Wolf Optimizer (GWO) algorithm. The fair comparison is ensured by the optimal tuning of the free parameters of iP controllers in a model-based manner using GWO.

Environmental apprehension under COP26 agreement: Examining the influence of environmental-related technologies and energy consumption on ecological footprint

Governments internationally strive to balance environmental health and economic development. Modern economies, specifically emerging ones, emphasize the importance of eco-friendly progress, where the pace of economic growth limits the ecological footprint. The ecological footprint denotes both the trajectory of natural resource extraction in the economic process and how quickly these resources can be replenished, as well as the capacity of the ecological sector to absorb waste from this process. This study examines 38 countries from 1994 to 2020 to investigate the drivers of the ecological footprint and found that environmentally related technologies harmfully influence ecological deprivation but are positively affected by gross domestic product growth. Renewable energy diminishes pollution levels, while urbanization has an insignificant effect. Imports were only found to be significant with one econometric technique, and their impact on the ecological footprint was positive. Income level affects the influence of gross domestic product on the ecological footprint. Lower-income quantiles have a more significant impact than higher quantiles. The Granger causality test shows bidirectional causality between the ecological footprint and exogenous factors: eco-technologies, gross domestic product/capita, renewable energy, urbanization, and imports.

Medical tourism has witnessed significant growth over the last decade. This nascent sector creates a new tourist class with access to affordable healthcare services by combining healthcare services with tourism and hospitality. Information technology is an essential factor, which can enable the growth of medical tourism. Technology enables the search process for information about the available services, costs, hospitality, tourism and post-treatment options. However, these technologies are primarily legacy systems and lack interoperability. Several questions arise, including the potential patient-tourist ability to verify crucial factors such as the quality of care and the credentials of the medical professionals and medical facilities. Moreover, questions arise regarding patient-doctor trust, procedure and risk transparency‚ medical record privacy and other health-related hazards in specific procedures. In this conceptual paper, we investigate the potential benefits of Blockchain technology to address some of the open questions in medical tourism. We conclude that Blockchain technology can benefit medical tourism, and we lay the foundation for future research.

The economic life has been investigating for decades the question of by what kind of activity, by the control of which factors can an enterprise be successful. As a consequence of the economic development and the informational boom, the hard factors, the purchasable and money-dependent systems and resources are accessible for everyone, therefore they have ceased to compose competitive advantages i.e. discriminative success factors. Consequently, the attention have turned towards the soft, human factors. Now we know that for the success the harmonious co-operation of both sides is needed. It was exactly for the practical adaptation of this approach why the European Foundation for Quality Management called the EFQM self-assessment model into being as the basis of quality awards. It unites in one model the factors of the successful business operation and helps the organizational self-improvement by its self-assessment method. The operation of the method, however, is frequently impeded by problems which are caused by exactly the difficult handling of the previously mentioned soft factors in practice. For the sake of successful operation, a solution for these problems must be found. During our research we conducted a primary investigation, having regard to the Hungarian peculiarities, among those Hungarian-owned companies which competed for the National Quality Award. In the course of the investigation we examined their organizational processes according to the factors of the EFQM, although mainly concentrating on the working methods and mechanisms, not on results. Comparing the individual case studies we have obtained the conclusion that, among the soft factors, job satisfaction at the Hungarian-owned companies does not follow the EFQM's viewpoint on self-improvement. Therefore, after a brief theoretical review of the EFQM model and one of its elements, job satisfaction, and through an example which is relevant from the view of the handling of satisfaction, we present the satisfaction-improvement method which we developed by observing the results of the primary investigation. © Andrea Bencsik, Zsuzsanna Nagy, 2007.

The aim of the research is to develop a laboratory model-based diagnostic procedure that performs tests of the motion processes of autonomous electric vehicles in a particular city, on a transport network or track. The test consists of a laboratory based generation of the corresponding speed and steering angle signals, being in accordance with real driving and traffic conditions, which are also used in the test procedure. Automated synthesis of process-networks by the integration of P-graph with process simulation

Chemical process simulation has become one of the most important tools for the analysis of process networks. The simulation software currently available are not capable of automatically generating the process structure, the designer must provide it as an input for the simulation. This limits the contribution of simulation to the latter stages of design after the structure has been clearly defined. Since the P-graph methodology was originally conceived to generate process structures systematically, it can be used to produce the topology of the problem automatically based on rigorous combinatorial axioms and algorithms. In this work, the properties of two P-graph algorithms are exploited to automatically generate alternative structures in a commercial simulator, conferring the latter an improved capacity to assist during the early stage of design. Initially, the maximal structure generation (MSG) algorithm is employed to identify a rigorous superstructure from the initial set of plausible operating units. The solution structure generation (SSG) algorithm is then used to enumerate all combinatorially feasible processes included in the superstructure. Each process structure is individually exported to Aspen Plus®, where rigorous models are used to simulate its performance. A set of alternative processes ranked by their economic performance can be generated. This integrated methodology is employed in a case study for producing methyl lactate from methanol and lactic acid. This work demonstrates that integration of P-graph with rigorous simulation constitutes an enhanced tool for process synthesis that automates the generation of process alternatives, providing useful information and additional insight of the synthesis problem.

The present paper contributes to the literature in two ways. First, it develops a novel p, q Quasirung Orthopair Fuzzy (p, q QOF) based group decision making framework to modify a recently developed multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) model such as Comparisons between Ranked Criteria (COBRAC). Second, the paper ruminates on the Strength-Weakness-Opportunity-Threat (SWOT) of the sugarcane supply chain (SSC) in India vis-à-vis adaptation of the advanced technologies featuring Industry 4.0. To set the sub-factors of various dimensions of SWOT, the theoretical ground of Technology-Organization-Environment (TOE) framework has been used. The sub-factors of SWOT have been derived through an informal in-depth discussion with the experts of the sugar industry. Then using a Likert five-point linguistic scale the experts rated the sub-factors based on their relative importance. To determine the weights the modified COBRAC method has been applied. In subsequent stages the reliability of the model has been tested and sensitivity analysis has been carried out to check the stability of the result. The analysis reveals that while experience, by-product utilization and high demand provides strength and create opportunities for SSC, the areas of concern are lack of variety, fragmented nature of supply chains, shortage of next-gen talent and inadequate infrastructure. However, there are enough promises for SSC. The paper shall provide impetus to strategic decision makers for the sugar industry and puts forth a new decision-making framework for the analysts.
