Pricing sustainability risk: Climate policy uncertainty and energy market dynamics

This study investigates the dynamic temporal relationship between climate policy uncertainty (CPU) and international energy prices across nine commodities from January 1992 to June 2024. The research examines whether CPU systematically drives energy price movements and how these relationships evolve over time. We employ dynamic time warping (DTW), a nonparametric pattern recognition technique that accommodates non-linear temporal alignments between time series. Unlike conventional econometric methods that impose fixed lag structures, DTW flexibly maps how CPU influences on energy prices evolve across different periods. We analyse crude oil (WTI and Brent), gasoline, heating oil, coal, liquefied natural gas, natural gas, palm oil, and sunflower oil using multiple DTW step patterns (Rabiner–Juang VI-c, Symmetric1) with Sakoe–Chiba window constraints. Lead–lag analysis quantifies quarterly shifts in temporal precedence between CPU and energy prices. Energy prices demonstrate increasing sensitivity to CPU, particularly after the early 2000s. Traditional fossil fuels show pronounced alignment with CPU during major policy shifts, including the post-2008 financial crisis and 2015 Paris Agreement. CPU often leads energy price movements during regulatory transitions, suggesting markets price anticipated policy risks. Recent years reveal temporal reversals: natural gas and coal prices increasingly lead CPU, indicating market dynamics now drive subsequent policy adjustments as energy transitions accelerate. This research introduces sophisticated temporal analysis using DTW and lead–lag methods to explore evolving CPU-energy price relationships. The study provides fresh insights into how climate-related regulations drive energy market volatility during transitions toward sustainable energy systems, with implications for portfolio management and regulatory design.

This study seeks to examine the attractiveness of higher education institutions as community spaces for students and the significance of the services they provide. It aims to explore students’ perspectives on planning their long-term futures, particularly in assessing whether the university environment serves as a stronger influence than their place of origin or family background. The role of the university is particularly significant if it is located outside the student’s town of origin, so the student’s decision to attend a particular institution is not necessarily based on the specific undergraduate program or the prestige of the university. The study combines a review of the national and international literature with an empirical investigation, utilizing a questionnaire survey to analyze students’ decision-making processes. Many students perceived the university as a transitional “island”, offering a temporary space to inhabit before embarking on their future careers. The degree obtained serves as a “passport” to professional opportunities, while the university experience provides a unique community environment and represents a significant step toward independence and separation from familial influence. These findings hold particular relevance for universities, which are continually redefining their roles in response to changing student expectations. Many students view the university not merely as a site of learning but as a precursor to adulthood and a foundational space for personal growth. This study addresses a gap in the existing literature by focusing on the appeal of universities as local hubs and comparing their influence to the retaining power of family ties, offering insights for student development.

WAYS OF IMPROVING OF ACTIVE CONTOUR METHODS IN COLON-OSCOPY IMAGE SEGMENTATION

As colonoscopy is the standard screening approach for colorectal polyps, and the first step of the correct classification and the efficient automatic diagnostics is the accurate detection and segmentation of the ex-isting polyps, it is worth researching systematically, how colonoscopy databases are responding to two of the most influential variational segmentation methods, the geodesic and Chan–Vese active contour meth-ods. Due to the quality variation of the colonoscopy databases, pre-processing steps are made. Then, 14 various filtered images are evaluated as different inputs for the active contour methods using the Sørensen–Dice Similarity Coefficient as a performance measurement metric. The effects of the initial mask shape and its size together with the number of iterations, contraction bias and smoothness factor are studied. In gen-eral, the Chan–Vese method showed more efficiency to match the actual contour of the polyp than the geodesic one with an initial mask possibly located within the polyp area. Preprocessing such as reflection removal, background subtraction and mean or median filtering can improve the Sørensen–Dice coefficient by up to 0.5

The density and biomass of Dreissena polymorpha living on submerged macrophytes in Lake Balaton (Hungary)

Dreissena polymorpha appeared and spread throughout Lake Balaton in the 1930s. We studied the density, the body length-body mass relationships and the biomass of D. polymorpha living on the submerged macrophytes in the littoral zone at four sites of different trophic status from May to October 2000. The dominant submerged macrophyte was Potamogeton perfoliatus in May/June and July and Myriophyllum spicatum in October, the fresh biomass of submerged macrophytes ranged between 450.64 and 3,171.51 g/m2, dry biomass ranged between 61.54 and 381.31 g/m2. D. polymorpha represented 2.48-84.85 % of all animals on submerged macrophytes. The density of zebra mussels ranged between 421 and 749,032 ind./m2, between 1 and 282 ind./g macrophyte fresh mass, and between 9 and 2,032 ind./g macrophyte dry mass. The body length-body mass relationships could be described by simple power function equations for fresh body mass with and without shell and dry body mass with and without shell. Zebra mussel biomass in Lake Balaton varied widely between 0.35 and 1,106.55 g fresh mass with shell/m2, between 0.01 and 50.96 g dry mass with shell/ m2, between 0.09 and 260.39 g fresh mass without shell/m 2 and between 0.002 and 6.49 g dry mass without shell/m2. The estimated respiratory organic carbon loss of total D. polymorpha population in the zone of submerged macrophytes ranged between 0.15 and 338.27 mg C/m 2 day, which is 0.04-154 % of planktonic primary production in different parts of the lake, illustrating the important role of this Ponto-Caspian invasive mussel in the matter-energy flux in Lake Balaton. The density of the zebra mussel (ind./m2) significantly depends on the type of submerged macrophytes and on the water depth. The type of submerged macrophytes and water depth have significant additive and interactive effects on the length of animals. Noise, Vibration, and Harshness (NVH) Challenges in Hydrogen Internal Combustion Engine Vehicles

This paper presents a state-of-the-art literature review on noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) in hydrogen-fuelled internal combustion engines. Studies published between 2011 and 2025 were screened, covering fundamental flame physics, test-bench work, and recent prototype vehicles. The review links hydrogen's core properties—high flame speed, wide flammability, low ignition energy, strong diffusivity—to specific NVH outcomes such as rapid pressure rise, knock, back-fire, and block resonance. For each pathway we summarise measured noise levels, vibration signatures, and psycho-acoustic findings. Mitigation methods are then grouped: lean premixing, direct injection, adaptive ignition timing, exhaust tuning, and structural damping. Results show that, with these measures, hydrogen engines can approach the NVH envelope of modern gasoline units. Remaining gaps lie in long-term durability under high-frequency loading and in full-vehicle sound quality. Overall, the review clarifies current knowledge, highlights consistent trends, and points to research still needed for quiet, smooth hydrogen mobility.

Steering System Modification for Autonomous Test Vehicles and the Measurement of Steering Geometry †

This study presents the development and implementation of an electronically actuated steering system in a Formula Student Driverless race car, aiming to support autonomous driving capability. A DC motor with a belt-drive mechanism was integrated into the original steering rack assembly without altering its core mechanical characteristics. The research also includes a validation of the steering geometry using both physical measurements and CAD simulations. The objective of this measurement is to determine the steering angle as a function of the steering wheel input angle, ensuring that the resulting data accurately informs vehicle dynamics models such as the kinematic bicycle model. These steps form the basis for closed-loop control integration in the autonomous driving platform.

ROS 2-Based Framework for Semi-Automatic Vector Map Creation in Autonomous Driving Systems †

High-definition vector maps, such as Lanelet2, are critical for autonomous driving systems, enabling precise localization, path planning, and regulatory compliance. However, creating and maintaining these maps traditionally demands labor-intensive manual annotation or resource-heavy automated pipelines. This paper presents an ROS 2-based framework for semi-automatic vector map generation, leveraging Lanelet2 primitives to streamline map creation while balancing automation with human oversight. The framework integrates multi-sensor inputs (LIDAR, GPS/IMU) within ROS 2 to extract and fuse road features such as lanes, traffic signs, and curbs. The pipeline employs modular ROS 2 nodes for tasks including NDT and SLAM-based pose estimation and the semantic segmentation of drivable areas which serve as a basis for Lanelet2 primitives. To promote adoption, the implementation is released as an open source. This work bridges the gap between automated map generation and human expertise, advancing the practical deployment of dynamic vector maps in autonomous systems.

Analysis of the financing activities of European football leagues

In a market economy, effective financial management is one of the most important aspects of the functioning of any company, which plays a connecting role between various areas of its activities and determines the company's position on the market, its competitiveness, prospects for sustainable development and cost growth. In this context, the assessment of the economic efficiency of sports organizations is also relevant, due to the high social significance of the sports industry and its huge popularity among the population. The study selected leagues that use different approaches to the formation and distribution of financial resources in their activities. Thus, the subject of this research is the existing mechanisms for financing the activities of sports subjects. The comparative report of UEFA on club licensing for pre-COVID-19 period was used as an analytical basis for the study. The results obtained during the study showed that with an effective approach to the process of managing financial and economic activities, the professional sports industry can be considered as a promising tool that can generate a significant material and non-material effect on various spheres of public activity, which affects the dynamic economic growth of the industry, as evidenced, in particular, by the performance index of the football leagues of Europe calculated in the work, showing the stable growth of the industry in the pre-COVID-19 period.

Description:

2472 3rd instar larvae of warble flies (Hypoderma diana and H. actaeon) were collected from 31 roe deer and 52 red deer shot during hunting in the Szigetköz Region, North-West Hungary in the summer, fall and winter of 2018. A special histological method was used for the first time for the better recognition of the fine inner structure of warble fly 3rd instar larvae on wild ungulates. This is the method used for horse bots larvae and has not been described for this purpose earlier. The histological characteristic features of larvae were examined.
