Hungary's inflationary exposures to global price movements

Publication Name: Society and Economy

Publication Date: 2023-09-15

Volume: 45

Issue: 3

Page Range: 186-207

Description:

This paper investigates Hungary's inflationary exposures to global price movements using a simple cost-push input-output price model and a database of inflation-to-output price elasticities (Global Inflation-to-Output Price Elasticity Database, GIOPED) developed on the basis of the OECD's Inter-Country Input-Output Tables. Inflation elasticities are decomposed into local, simple, and complex global value chain effects by applying Wang's decomposition scheme (Wang et al. 2017) to price movements and inflation. Our empirical analysis based on GIOPED elasticities shows that Hungary is highly exposed to global value chain price transmissions originating in Germany, Austria, and Russia; and in particular to changes in energy prices. The crude oil and natural gas price boom and the resulting energy crises caused a significant increase in consumer price levels in Hungary; however, this explains only a fraction of current inflation rates.

Fuzzy signature and cognitive modelling for complex decision model

Publication Name: Advances in Soft Computing

Publication Date: 2007-12-01

Volume: 42

Issue: Unknown

Page Range: 380-389

Description:

As data is getting more complex and complicated, it is increasingly difficult to construct an effective complex decision model. Two very obvious examples where such a need emerges are in the economic and the medical fields. This paper presents the fuzzy signature and cognitive modeling approach which could improve such decision models. Fuzzy signatures are introduced to handle complex structured data and problems with interdependent features. A fuzzy signature can also be used in cases where data is missing. The proposed fuzzy signature structure will be used in problems that fall into this category. This paper also investigates a novel cognitive model to extend the usage of fuzzy signatures. This Fuzzy Cognitive Signature Modelling will enhance the usability of fuzzy theory in modelling complex systems as well as facilitating complex decision making process based on ill structured information or data. © 2007 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

Comprehensive assessment of oil degradation patterns in petrol and diesel engines observed in a field test with passenger cars – Conventional oil analysis and fuel dilution

Publication Name: Tribology International

Publication Date: 2021-09-01

Volume: 161

Issue: Unknown

Page Range: Unknown

Description:

Requirements for modern internal combustion engines are lower emissions, higher power density and longer maintenance intervals. These trends increase the demands on engine components, including lubricants. In a field study of petrol and diesel vehicles, oil condition of 47 engine oils from 12 vehicles are correlated with fresh oil properties and operating conditions, i.e., trip length and speed. Long-range petrol vehicles displayed accelerated chemical oil degradation compared to diesel vehicles. An explanation for this behaviour is assumed to be the difference air-to-fuel ratio. Short-range petrol vehicles showed an even faster oil degradation and significant changes in oil viscosity due to fuel dilution. Diesel vehicles exhibited higher soot loading and more pronounced engine wear indicated by iron content in the oils.

Omnibus legislation: a tool for and against the rule of law in developing and established democracies

Publication Name: Journal of Legislative Studies

Publication Date: 2026-01-01

Volume: Unknown

Issue: Unknown

Page Range: Unknown

Description:

The use of omnibus legislation is increasing all around the world. This paper looks at legislative data and cases of omnibus legislation from three countries at different stages of the democratic transition process: Turkey, Indonesia and Hungary. In these countries, omnibus legislation was a tool used by dominant executives to circumvent or weaken the parliament. Omnibus legislation is a flexible tool for compromised law reforms (legal approximation of EU integration), and frequently used also for political bargaining, in order to reach package deals within the legislature (Italy, Canada, the USA). On the other hand, omnibus laws make the legislative procedure less transparent. The possibility of constant amendment packages in (negative) omnibus laws erodes legal perfection and brings uncertainty and mistakes into laws, which then call for even more amendments for corrections, creating a vicious circle.

Effective lane width analysis for autonomous trucks

Publication Name: SN Applied Sciences

Publication Date: 2023-09-01

Volume: 5

Issue: 9

Page Range: Unknown

Description:

Lateral wander of autonomous truck can be further improved by optimizing the uniform wander. Increase in available lane width for the autonomous trucks can increase the performance efficiency of this mode. This research is based on finding the optimum, combination of lane width increment and asphalt layer thickness reduction among different scenarios. Therefore, In this research with assumed maximum lane width of 4.35 m, difference combination of lane width and asphalt layer thickness scenarios have been analyzed using finite element modelling in ABAQUS. Considering the base pavement width of 3.75 m, increment for each scenario is 15 cm and reduction in asphalt layer thickness is at 2 cm. Performance efficiency of each scenario is conducted while considering the initial construction costs and damage assessment for each scenario. Moreover, life cycle cost analysis (LCCA) is conducted for the base scenario and selected optimum scenario. Results show that increase in pavement width beyond 4.2 m, renders the scenarios uneconomical and thus, the scenario consisting of 4.2 m lane width and 16 cm asphalt layer thickness yield a maximum performance efficiency of 20% among all other alternatives. LCCA analysis shows that a difference in salvage value of 42 million Euros exists when compared with the base scenario. By selecting the optimum lane width of 4.2 m and asphalt layer thickness of 16 cm, Pavement lifetime can be further increased by 13 years with full depth reclamation used as maintenance intervention.

Psychological and anthropometric characteristics of a Hungarian Elite Football academy's players

Publication Name: Physical Culture and Sport Studies and Research

Publication Date: 2017-03-01

Volume: 73

Issue: 1

Page Range: 15-26

Description:

Due to the fact that neither physical nor physiological and anthropometric differences in adolescents can serve as definitive differentiating factors in terms of choosing successful and non-successful players, coaches are encouraged to focus more on thepsychological characteristics ofyoung players. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to examine football players' psychological skills in an elite football academy as related to age and position. Every young player at one of the most successful football academies in the country participated in this study (N=119, M=16.44±1.17). The sample was divided into four age groups according to the championship system (U16, U17, U18, U21), and into specific football positions (goalkeeper, defender, midfielder, and striker). Basedonthe results, the young academy football players had a low level ofamotivation (1.45±0.68), a high level of extrinsic motivation (5.96±0.64), and can be characterized with a higher level task (4.02±0.62) than ego orientation (3.01±0.62). All of the results for coping skills were in the mid-range (M=3.00-3.41). There were no differences in motivation, perceived motivational climate, and coping among the football players regarding their positions. However, there were significant differences among the age groups in perceived motivation and coping skills. Older players were more egooriented and had a higher level of peaking under pressure, while younger players demonstrated higher level task, ego, and coach ability levels. Football coaches need to focus less on positions and more on age differences when dealing with motivation, perceived motivation, and coping.

Examining the Naringin Content and Sensory Characteristics of Functional Chocolate Fortified with Grapefruit Peel Extract

Publication Name: Plant Foods for Human Nutrition

Publication Date: 2023-09-01

Volume: 78

Issue: 3

Page Range: 533-538

Description:

Grapefruit peel contains a high concentration of naringin- a potent antioxidant with strong bioactive properties. In this study, a new type of functional chocolate fortified with grapefruit peel extract and different concentrations of aqueous methanol and ethanol were evaluated as extraction solvents. A new high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method to analyze the naringin content of the fortified chocolates was developed with a recovery of 107% ± 3.1% and repeatability below 3.5%. A sensory evaluation was conducted to assess the preference for the chocolates among individuals who self-described a preference for bitter flavors. No significant preference was observed in the cases of astringency and aftertaste while the increased bitterness proved to be favorable. However, taste, flavor and overall acceptability were regarded somewhat less favorably. While chocolate proved to be a satisfactory carrier for naringin and had several enjoyable characteristics, further research may focus on improving the organoleptic properties of chocolates fortified by naringin.
