Movement towards more sustainable waste management practice has been identified as a priority in the whole of the EU. The EU Waste Management Strategy's requirements emphasizes waste prevention; recycling and reuse; and improving final disposal and monitoring. Integrated waste management systems can be defined as the selection and application of suitable and available techniques, technologies and management programs to achieve waste management objectives and goals. As a result of the complexity and uncertainty occurring in sustainable waste management systems, the fuzzy cognitive map method is used with the combination of the bacterial evolutionary algorithm to support the planning and decision making process of integrated systems. Since the fuzzy cognitive map method is formed for a selected system by determining the concepts and their relationships, it is possible to quantitatively simulate the system considering its parameters. Several techniques were used in order to produce the input data of the simulation process. The goal of this paper is to present the process of data production.

Investigation of viral diseases of garlic (Allium sativum L.), new primers for RT-PCR detection and diversity of garlic viruses in Hungary

The study investigated the presence of potyviruses, carlaviruses, and allexiviruses in garlic samples, highlighting the impact of these viruses on garlic cultivation. No virus-free garlic was identified, with infections from at least one virus species observed in all samples. Notably, LYSV was detected in one sample, emphasizing the critical need for certified propagating material. Our study revealed the predominance of allexiviruses, particularly GarVD. Interestingly, no mixed carlavirus infections were detected. The results underline the risk of virus complexes, particularly when potyvirus infections occur alongside carla- or allexiviruses, exacerbating yield losses. The new primers we designed were successfully used, the usability of certain primers from earlier research has been confirmed, and new potential applications have been identified for some primers. In our study we have molecularly identified LYSV, GCLV, SLV, GarVB, GarVC and GarVD infected samples from Hungary, the presence of LYSV was confirmed with ELISA as well.

Big data for sustainable agri‐food supply chains: a review and future research perspectives

Research on agri-food supply chains (AFSCs) has attracted significant attention in recent years due to the challenges associated with sustainably feeding the global population. The purpose of this study is to review the potentials of big data for sustainable AFSCs. One hundred twenty-eight (128) journal articles were selected to identify how big data can contribute to the sustainable development of AFSCs. As part of our focus, a framework was developed based on the conceptualization of AFSCs in the extant literature to analyse big data research in the context of AFSCs and to provide insights into the potentials of the technology for agri-food businesses. The findings of the review indicate that there is a noticeable growth in the number of studies addressing the applications of big data for AFSCs. The potentials of big data for AFSC sustainability were synthesized in a summary framework, highlighting the primary resources and activities that are ready for improvement with big data. These include soil, water, crop and plant management, animal management, waste management and traceability management. The challenges of big data integration in AFSCs, the study’s implications, contributions, and the future research directions are highlighted in detail.

Part 1 of this paper summarizes the application of the IPG CarMaker 11.0 software for lap-time simulation and optimization. The goal is to use the IPG CarMaker on a given track for the optimization of the aerodynamics package parameters and the drag reduction system (DRS). The optimal aerodynamic downforce coefficient is determined for a given vehicle. The simulations clearly suggest that the application of the DRS pays off for a Formula Student car, if the DRS activation and deactivation times are chosen carefully. As IPG CarMaker seems to be a powerful tool, the Arrabona Racing Team decided to extend its application.

The production of renewable fuels and chemicals is a critical component of global strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. In this regard, pyrolysis oil obtained from biomass comprises hundreds of chemical compounds, thus rendering it a good precursor for manufacturing a variety of fuel products of commercial interest. Despite the large number of contributions describing the products' extraction, upgrading, and potential refining schemes, no bio-oil refinery is currently in operation. The main challenge in building a bio-oil refinery lies in the lack of an economically viable process configuration. Systematic studies comparing alternative refinery concepts, or configurations, are needed to identify the most promising configuration. To the best of our knowledge, this study is the first to use process graph (P-graph) methodology for the synthesis of pyrolysis oil refineries. In particular, this work shows the effectiveness of P-graph methodology in simultaneously calculating the profitability of various biorefinery designs by using data reported in the literature and providing information on how the introduction of new technologies to the database will impact the formation of profitable biorefinery concepts. Our work demonstrates a methodology for the addition of new unit operations to the database generated from the literature. The addition of a centrifuge for water extraction and a wet oxidation system for acetic acid production resulted in the generation of 330 biorefinery configurations, seven of which have a profitability ranging from $1,650 to $23,666/h (USD) with acetic acid and levoglucosan as the main products, respectively. This demonstrates that P-graph methodology is useful for discovering optimum techno-economic scenarios that may otherwise be overlooked.

The principles and applications of the overall imperfection method for beamcolumns are presented in this paper. The buckling resistance of a beam-column member is determined by the resistance of its critical cross-section taking into account the second-order effect. The maximum amplitude of the initial imperfection, in the shape of elastic buckling mode, is determined from fundamental cases. Fundamental case: simply-supported member with uniform cross-section subjected to uniformly distributed forces. The standardized buck-ling resistance of this reference member is based on theoretical and empirical background. The proposed overall imperfection method is adequate for computer-aided design procedures which contains an advanced elastic beam-column finite element method. The accuracy of the overall imperfection method is shown by a parametric study.
