Modeling enablers for blockchain adoption in the circular economy

Blockchain technology can play a crucial role to facilitate the transition from a linear to a circular economy. This article evaluates those enablers that influence technology adoption in the circular economy. A comprehensive literature review and feedback from experts revealed nineteen critical enablers. The Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) methodology was used to determine the cause-and-effect relationships between them. The findings identified five critical causal enablers: transparency, security, smart contracts, traceability, and enhanced collaboration. Effect enablers were identified as immutability, decentralization, privacy, automation, information sharing, and enhanced regulation.

Development of control algorithms for electrical machines may be a difficult procedure if functional safety, software quality, reusability and expandability come into scope. These properties might be required in both of research and industrial development projects. State of the art methods and tools like model-based design (MBD) and automated code generation may help to meet these requirements. In this paper, MBD methods and a modular, reusable model architecture are presented for implementation of field oriented control (FOC)-based controller software for induction motors.

Ecological footprint as an indicator of corporate environmental performance—empirical evidence from hungarian smes

Small‐ and medium‐sized enterprises (SMEs) play a significant role in the national economies of the EU member states. This economic activity has an inevitable environmental impact; however, environmental performance indicators are mostly measured at larger companies. Since the ecological footprint (EF) is a suitable measure of unsustainability, this paper considers it as a measure of the environmental impact of SMEs. An EF calculator for SMEs was developed that is freely available online, and it is a methodological innovation per se. Our previous research projects highlighted that the calculator must be easy‐to‐use and reliable; therefore, the calculator considers only the common, standardizable, and comparable elements of EF. Our results are based on validated ecological footprint data of 73 Hungarian SMEs surveyed by an online ecological footprint calculator. In order to validate and test the usefulness of the calculator, interviews were conducted with respondents, and results were also checked. The paper presents benchmark data of ecological footprint indicators of SMEs obtained from five groups of enterprises (construction, white‐collar jobs, production, retail and/or wholesale trade, and transportation). Statistical results are explained with qualitative data (such as environmental protection initiatives, business models, etc.) of the SMEs surveyed. Our findings could be used as a benchmark for the assessment of environmental performance of SMEs in Central‐ and Eastern Europe.

Due to the complexity of health tourism and due to the excellent thermal, mineral, and medicinal water qualities of Hungary and Romania, as water is one of the four ancient elements determined by Aristotle, such treasures play an important role not only in the field of economy, but also in social life. As one of the oldest forms of tourism is spa-tourism, the present research focuses on this branch of health tourism, which, in its offers, has as its main focus on thermal and medicinal waters in Hungary and Romania. Thanks to the favorable geological conditions of the two neighboring countries, the attraction-based system of health tourism is built on a multi-element model. Based on this, the paper aims at discussing the system of water-based health tourism based on the four ancient elements. These four elements are water, fire, earth, and air. Making use of Lee’s European Health and Wellness Model Services, we have created a four-element water-based health tourism system. The modeling of the system consists of a survey of tourism in the selected spa/wellness facilities. In case of successful testing, the model should be incorporated in the terminology of health tourism in both countries.

The paper examines why there is no consistent answer in either the domestic or the international literature on the relationship between corporate social responsibility and competitiveness and the reasons behind this. The topic has been present in the international literature since the 1970s and has come to the fore in Hungary in the last 15 years. There are many different answers concerning the type of relationship between the two concepts, for a variety of reasons. Drawing on previous research, the paper presents a uniform system, details the causes identified and provides a theoretical framework for empirical research to ensure a complex approach and interpretation.

In Issue 4 of Társadalomkutatás (Social Research) - 2009, the "main rehearsal" of the Delphi debate volume, initially to be edited by Kálmán Kulcsár with Károly Varga's cooperation, chose the debate-launcher out of one of the main range in the senior editor's oeuvre, the theme of modernization. Due to aspects of professional and world-view multilateralness as well as volume limitations, besides Varga's answering article, Kálmán Kulcsár chose from several contributions only the studies of two authors who were able to pronouncedly mark the poles of this spectrum, broad in both its dimensions: from law sociological and progressive directions, he chose Antal Ádám's article, from value conservative and "inter-science" angles, he chose that of Gábor Náray-Szabó. Meanwhile, however, another momentous opponency to Kulcsár's introduction was completed, written by Rezso Lovas, atomic researcher; which, due to the death of the debate's initiator, can only appear in the present Kulcsár-memorial issue of the journal. This is what the present author is trying to respond to, in Kálmán Kulcsár's spirit. He recalls, on the one hand, Kálmán Kulcsár's "thesis", according to which "the modernisation of the decades following World War II can be truly applied as a concept with an explanatory power in understanding current social phenomena and processes"; on the other hand recalling Rezso Lovas's "antithesis" about the rather negative classification of this key concept, according to which "modernisation can no longer be a leading idea any more because it is not clear where it leads to"; and thirdly, recalls Varga's writing which, although not to be taken for a "synthesis", nuances and completes Kulcsár's thesis, as well as refines some of Lovas' suggestions. He states that whereas Kálmán Kulcsár's approach reckons with a basically positive ideal-type of the concept of modernisation, embracing the original idea, the requirements and certain facts of its realization, Rezso Lovas takes note of the dysfunctional concomitant phenomena, which emerge on it according to the laws of parasitism, formulated by Csíkszentmihá lyi, destroying power sources because of malfunctioning regulation. To determine the new direction, he also borrows from Csíkszentmihályi the concept of higher complexity, in which the moments of differentiation and integration have to maintain balance. He demonstrates that this clarified national strategy-building direction of modernization can bring the conceptions of the Delphi-debate-initiator and his powerful opponent closer to each other.

A COMPARATIVE STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS OF FOUR RADIOSONDE MODELS

In this study, we first performed a comprehensive structural analysis of four models of radiosondes (devices intended for use as the meteorological probe of a sounding balloon) manufactured by three different companies - Graw, Vaisala and Meteomodem. The radiosondes were disassembled for visual inspection and manual measurement, three-dimensional computed tomography images were taken of their inner structure, and the outer shapes of the radiosondes were scanned with a structured-light three-dimensional scanner. The structural properties of the radiosondes thus identified were then compared to one other, based on which the Meteomodem M10 was ranked as the least harmful in a potential collision. Next, the Meteomodem M10 radiosonde was used in collision tests with a heavy target and with a pumpkin model, in order to evaluate the possible damage caused by and to the radiosonde in different types of collisions.

The digital revolution is rapidly reshaping supply chains, driven by the confluence of Industry 4.0 and digitalization transformations. This research aims to investigate the evolution of the digitalization transformation era by integrating machine learning and big data management into supply chain management (SCM). A systematic literature review and mapping study were conducted, analyzing 223 articles from the Scopus database and 60 from Web of Science, selected through a Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) screening process and the Population, Exposure, and Outcome (PEO) framework. This study provides a narrative summary of the evolution of decision-making and consultation processes, recommendation approaches, and guidelines for enterprises to achieve sustainability in their supply chain management. It also identifies potential areas for future research in navigating the world of digitized supply chains.

Optimizing Video Resolution for Machine Learning-Based Traffic Monitoring Systems: A Performance Analysis

This study explores the impact of video resolution on the performance of machine learning-based traffic monitoring systems. Using a combination of empirical analysis and theoretical modeling, we assess how different resolutions affect detection accuracy, resource consumption, and computational efficiency. While other factors such as noise level, or compression artifacts also influence performance, resolution was chosen as a primary variable due to its critical role in balancing detail capture and computational cost. Higher resolutions can enhance object detection accuracy but also significantly increase data processing demands, making resolution a key trade-off in designing efficient surveillance systems. Findings of this study show significant insights into these trade-offs, guiding transportation authorities and system developers in making informed decisions to design scalable traffic monitoring solutions that meet the demands of modern urban environments.
