The role of knowledge is a determinative factor in the life of economy and society. To determine knowledge is not an easy task yet the real task is to determine the right knowledge. From this view knowledge is a sum of experience, ideas and cognitions which can help companies to remain in markets and to realize a maximum profit. At the same time changes of circumstances project in advance that contents and demands of the right knowledge are changing. In this paper we will analyse a special segment on the basis of an empirical survey. We investigated the behaviour and strategies of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in the area of knowledge-handling. This survey was realized by questionnaires and wide range statistical methods were used during processing. As a result we will show how these companies are prepared to operate in a knowledge-based economy and in which areas they have prominent deficiencies.

Description:

A simple beam element based modelling technique has been developed which makes possible to analyze frames made of I sections with column-rafter bolted end-plate connections, subject to 3D loads, compatible with the thin walled beam theory with 7DOF beam elements. The model previously developed by the same team for welded connections has been extended with the addition of linear spring elements to model the bolts located at the upper and lower beam flange level. The spring stiffnesses are calculated based on the extension of the Eurocode component method and verified by simulations performed with FEA software Abaqus.

Old railways, new borders. The impact of treaty of Trianon on Western Transdanubia network (1918–1924)

The Great War and Trianon opened a new chapter in the history, not only of the Kingdom of Hungary, but also of Western Hungary. Besides dividing up the counties of Sopron, Moson and Vas, the newly re-drawn borders also split up most of the railway lines running within them as well. From the territory sliced from the three counties, the previously non-existent province of Austria, Burgenland, was established in 1922. In many cases, the new demarcation lines followed boundaries of old districts or settlements, but it was rare to find natural boundaries among them. As a result, between the two World Wars, the use of the affected railway tracks began to change similar to several contemporary Central European cases, with the exception of GYSEV (Győr–Sopron–Ebenfurth Railway Company), which could remain in its original form. This research paper aims to examine how the shift of borders in this region affected railway transport. It is based on the local historical literature on the railway, regional history and primary resources.

Women's Empowerment Dimensions and Child Stunting in Ethiopia: A Multilevel Analysis of Demographic and Health Surveys 2011–2016

Child stunting affects 38.3% of children under five in Ethiopia as of 2016. Women's empowerment, defined through both fundamental capabilities and household decision-making authority, has emerged as a critical determinant of child nutritional outcomes. Drawing on Sen's capability approach and Kabeer's empowerment framework, we examined the associations between two distinct dimensions of women's empowerment and child stunting across Ethiopia's diverse regions. We analyzed 18,466 mother–child pairs from the 2011 and 2016 Ethiopia Demographic and Health Surveys. Validated empowerment indices were constructed using factor analysis. We employed hierarchical multilevel models as our primary specification to examine the associations between women's empowerment and child stunting across Ethiopia's 11 administrative regions. Between 2011 and 2016, stunting declined from 42.3% to 36.4%. Women's decision-making authority increased (mean score: 0.70–0.78), while capabilities remained stable (0.17– 0.16). Higher capabilities were significantly associated with lower odds of stunting (β = −0.141, aOR = 0.87, 95% CI: 0.83, 0.91), whereas decision-making showed no association (β = 0.013, aOR = 1.01, 95% CI: 0.98, 1.05). A significant interaction between capabilities and decision-making was observed (β = 0.050, aOR = 1.05, 95% CI: 1.01, 1.09). Regional heterogeneity was substantial: Amhara maintained high stunting rates despite empowerment gains, while Somali saw improvements with low capabilities but increased decision-making. The study findings suggest that interventions should prioritize capability development through region-specific strategies reflecting diverse pastoral, agrarian, and urban contexts; promote multi-sectoral programs linking education and nutrition services; and develop monitoring frameworks to track both dimensions of empowerment at the regional level.

This paper explores the dynamic landscape of higher education, specifically in the domain of Commerce and Marketing, over the past decade. As higher education faces evolving challenges and changing stakeholder expectations, the study delves into the ongoing debate regarding the alignment of higher education, including business education on a Commerce and Marketing BA course in West-Hungary. The research employs a comprehensive case study methodology spanning ten academic years to showcase the course's development and innovations. The study scrutinizes changes in teaching methodologies, course materials, seminar and project assignments, applied technologies, and assessment methods. Findings from in-depth interviews with business professionals, and student observations reveal the course's adaptation to market needs and challenges encountered during the online transition. The results suggest that, despite disruptions in the academic year 20/21 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the development of this course in the examined years successfully aligns with market expectations, fostering competencies essential for the business domain, thanks to introducing new methodologies (interactive project-based, seminars), usage of AI assisted applications, and introducing new forms of assessments.

Result of modern digital age, the concept of Personal Learning Environments (PLEs) are becoming more relevant in today's academic world. Personalization is needed to make a product or service or an educational environment more endearing to the target audience, and this is especially true for VR Learning. The paper examines the learning effectiveness connecting to the personalized learning content with the participation of 90 students. The personalized VR education was based on an examination of students' learning type and attribute. In the experiment, the same curricula is compared when executed using audio, visual or reading type of learning content. To determine the learning style of students, the Kolb's learning test were applied. Tests show that the users were able to complete the tests with at least 20% effectiveness, if the learning materials fits their learning type.

This research focuses on solving the nonlinear second-order jet engine vibration equation utilizing a hybrid analytical technique named the least square homotopy perturbation method (LSHPM). The numerical and graphical comparison of the solutions obtained using the homotopy perturbation method (HPM), LSHPM, and the MATLAB built-in solver bvp5c is presented across four distinct cases. Additionally, a comparative analysis between the solutions derived from LSHPM and those reported in previous literature is also presented. The tabular and graphical representation of the solutions, along with the numerical validation through residual error analysis, are given. Furthermore, the convergence analysis of the LSHPM for its stability and solution reliability is provided. The graphical and numerical representation of the residual error analysis reveals that LSHPM exhibits superiority over HPM in terms of rapid convergence and accuracy. The strong agreement between the results obtained from HPM and bvp5c with those of LSHPM demonstrates that LSHPM offers a more efficient, reliable, and fast convergent solution of the initial and boundary value problem.

When decisions are made by human beings these choices are often 'predictably irrational'. A large number of different biases effect the human beings' information processing systems. Because of the imperfect information processing system the decisions are imperfect as well, and very often some distortion appears in the solution. In our paper we propose a simple corrective mechanism for the loss aversion bias, presenting Kano's quality model as a case study. An 'interface' is placed between the input data and the optimizing algorithm and the input data are debiased instead of modifying the algorithm itself. The use of fuzzy numbers is adequate to model the loss aversion type bias and corrective tools. Computational results are presented as well to demonstrate the efficiency. © 2012 IEEE.
