The installed solar capacity in the European Union has expanded rapidly in recent years. The production of these plants is stochastic and highly dependent on the weather. However, many factors should be considered together to estimate the expected output according to the weather forecast so that these new PV plants can operate at maximum capacity. Plants must be operated in coordination with maintenance operations and considering actual energy market prices. Various methods have recently been developed in the literature, ranging from the most impactful artificial-intelligence-based generation estimation methods to various diagnostic and maintenance methods. Moreover, the optimal operational and maintenance strategy usually depends on market regulation, and there are many concerns related to the distribution system operator. This review article aims to summarize and illustrate the challenges of operating and maintaining solar power plants and the economic and technical importance of these problems.

Integrating the Internet of Things in the halal food supply chain: A systematic literature review and research agenda

To address consumers’ concerns regarding food integrity, halal food businesses need to rethink their conventional supply chains and leverage new technologies. The emergence and proliferation of the Internet of Things (IoT) - the use of interconnected devices, sensors, and technologies to orchestrate, monitor, and optimize supply chain processes - holds innovative potentials for the halal food supply chain (HFSC). Despite the growing popularity in supply chain management and logistics, the potentials and challenges of IoT in the HFSC remain – unexplored and further research is required. Therefore, the goal of this paper is to address this knowledge gap and review IoT research within the context of HFSCs. To begin, over seventy-three (73) papers were analyzed using both bibliometric techniques and in-depth content analysis. The results reveal that IoT offers five major benefits for the HFSC; namely, traceability of products, enhancement of supply chain efficiencies, facilitation of livestock management, authentication of foods’ halal status, and monitoring of halal certifications. Several challenges were identified, including the technical limitations of IoT devices, technological immaturity, lack of user acceptance, and cost and regulatory barriers. The study's findings provide deeper insight into the current state of IoT research in the halal food literature, its development, challenges and future research avenues for scholars, policy makers and the HFSC community.

Military Migration and Demographic Transformations in Ukraine: Military Consequences for Territorial Communities

Population migration is one of the natural phenomena that occurs in society regardless of the form of social and economic system, and is considered within the framework and at the intersection of various sciences. However, military migration has its unique features and a distinct landscape of its processes, occurrences, and ongoing developments. The subject of this research is the complex of problems related to military migration in Ukraine, as well as its impact on the socio-economic development of territorial communities. The article aims to map both visible situations and latent processes in the territorial communities of Ukraine caused by military migration during the Russo-Ukrainian War. It is demonstrated that the consequences of military migration have both positive and negative aspects, thereby becoming a source of conflict and contributing to a decline in living standards within territorial communities. The need to combine the efforts of government bodies, civil society, and stakeholders in a comprehensive study of the consequences of military migration on communities is emphasized to develop effective models and strategies to overcome negative patterns. The fundamental issues surrounding military migration are reexamined to incorporate some of the significant new field data that has surfaced recently and to outline the policy implications of the results.

Majority of recent studies discussing the development issues of civil engineering education focus the attention on the innovative teaching and learning methods. Evolution of the engineers' habit of mind demands, in addition, the conscious harmonization and synchronization of educational level, basic mathematical and mechanical preliminaries and professional content. Consideration of the interdependence among these factors results in some conclusions usable for educators interested in creating innovative curricula. Distinction between BEng and MEng levels of competence has to be identified properly. Geotechnical works on or in problematic soils deserve this attention, in particular.

Hierarchical fuzzy decision support methodology for packaging system design

In the field of logistics packaging (industrial-, or even customer packaging), companies have to take decisions on determining the optimal packaging solutions and expenses. The decisions often involve a choice between one-way (disposable) and reusable (returnable) packaging solutions. Even nowadays, in most cases the decisions are made based on traditions and mainly consider the material and investment costs. Although cost is an important factor, it might not be sufficient for finding the optimal solution. Traditional (two-valued) logic is not suitable for modelling this problem, so here the application of a fuzzy approach, because of the metrical aspects, a fuzzy signature approach is considered. In this paper a fuzzy signature modelling the packaging decision is suggested, based on logistics expert opinions, in order to support the decision making process of choosing the right packaging system. Two real life examples are also given, one in the field of customer packaging and one in industrial packaging.

Passion and Addiction in Aerobic, Anaerobic, and Mixed (CrossFit) Exercises

This study employed exercise dependence and four-phase models to investigate the relationship between passion for exercise and the risk of exercise addiction (REA) among practitioners of aerobic, anaerobic, and CrossFit exercises. Participants (N = 424; 60.8% female; meanage = 38.29 ± 9.71 years) were recruited from fitness centers and social media in Hungary. The sample included 234 CrossFit, 126 aerobic (e.g., running, cycling, swimming), and 64 anaerobic (bodybuilding) exercisers. Data were collected online on Qualtrics, which included demographic questions, the Exercise Addiction Inventory-3, and the Passion Scale-8. CrossFit participants exhibited the highest exercise frequency and intensity, with a greater prevalence of REA (25.2%) compared to the anaerobic (15.6%) and aerobic (14.3%) groups. Cross Fitters also scored higher on salience, withdrawal symptoms, and passion. However, group differences in absolute REA scores vanished after controlling for passion and exercise characteristics. Gender differences emerged, with females showing a stronger affective connection to exercise and higher withdrawal symptoms. Passion was strongly correlated with REA (r = 0.55) and accounted for 28% of the variance in it. Further research is needed to distinguish between passion-driven exercise and addiction.

Tutorial on the fragmentation of the railway ballast particles and calibration methods in discrete element modelling

This paper presents a short literature review related to the fragmentation of the railway crushed ballast particles. With the help of the processed articles with the main topic of discrete element modelling (DEM) we aim to provide some insight into the international achievements and forward progress of the subject. Rock materials as granular elements can be investigated from several perspectives. The elements can be examined in laboratory conditions purely from the quarry, or even by obtaining already fragmented particles from the real railway tracks. In addition, DEM models can be created by using computer software. This article tackles only a small segment of the literature. Though each DEM topic was unique, they all involved examination of degradation of particles in some way. This review focuses on model building, including particle construction and calibration. The selected publications do not cover the current state of the entire DEM research related to ballast degradation.

Intuitionistic Fuzzy Model of Traffic Jam Regions and Rush Hours for the Time Dependent Traveling Salesman Problem

The Traveling Salesman Problem (TSP) is one of the most extensively studied NP-hard graph search problems. Many researchers published numerous approaches for quality solutions, applying various techniques in order to find the optimum (least cost) or semi optimum solution. Moreover, there are many different extensions and modifications of the original problem, The Time Dependent Traveling Salesman Problem (TD TSP) is a prime example. TD TSP indeed was one of the most realistic extensions of the original TSP towards assessment of traffic conditions [1]. Where the edges between nodes are assigned different cost (weight), considering whether they are traveled during the rush hour periods or they cross the traffic jam regions. In such conditions edges are assigned higher costs [1]. In this paper we introduce an even more realistic approach, the IFTD TSP (Intuitionistic Fuzzy Time Dependent Traveling Salesman Problem); which is an extension of the classic TD TSP with the additional notion of intuitionistic fuzzy sets. Our core concept is to employ intuitionistic fuzzy sets of the cost between nodes to quantify traffic jam regions, and the rush hour periods. Since the intuitionistic fuzzy sets are generalizations of the original fuzzy sets [2], then our approach is a usefully extended, alternative model of the original abstract problem. By demonstrating the addition of intuitionistic fuzzy elements to quantify the intangible jam factors and rush hours, and creating an inference system that approximates the tour cost in a more realistic way [3]. Since our motivation is to give a useful and practical alternative (extension) of the basic TD TSP problem, the DBMEA (Discrete Bacterial Memetic Evolutionary Algorithm) was used in order to calculate the (quasi-)optimum or semi optimum solution. DBMEA has been proven to be effective and efficient in a wide segment of NP-hard problems, including the original TSP and the TD TSP as well [4]. The results from the runs based on the extensions of the family of benchmarks generated from the original TD TSP benchmark data set showed rather good and credible initial results.
