During liver transplantation (LT) the glucose metabolism is effected by a crucial disturbance. The blood glucose level is extremely hard to control by conventional clinical protocols during this phase. Model based approach can enhance the blood glucose control during the anhepatic phase (absence of liver) and post-anhepatic phase. The physiological constants of validated clinical metabolic model were slightly modified based on previous studies. The model fitting errors and the sufficient capture of the blood glucose (BG) dynamic evinced the applicability of the model. However the sufficient per-patient estimation of endogenous production could more enhance the performance of the model based BG prediction. © 2013 IEEE.

Use of Hybrid Flame Retardants in Chemically Foamed rPET Blends

Description:

The foamed structure of recycled polyethylene-terephthalate (rPET) is a promising solution for industrial applications; however, the remedy for its inherent melt-dripping property is still a challenging topic. In our research, we were able to improve the flame retardancy of the endothermic–exothermic hybrid rPET foam by adding a different mixture of flame retardants to the formula. Three different kinds of halogen-free flame retardant agents were used: ammonium polyphosphate-based Exolit AP 422 (AP), organic aluminum phosphate in the form of Exolit OP 1240 (OP), and Budit 342 containing melamine polyphosphate (MPP). The hybrid flame retardant mixture, by combining the swelling and charring mechanism, increased the flame retardancy of the samples. The sample made with 15 phr OP and 5 phr MPP displayed outstanding performance, where five samples were capable of self-extinguishing in 5 s, while only slightly decreasing the tensile and flexural strength properties and simultaneously increasing the Young and flexural modulus compared to the reference sample. The addition of MPP reduced the porosity in many cases, while preventing cell coalescence. Our results prove that the hybrid flame retardant agent frameworks efficiently increase the flame retardancy of rPET foams, facilitating their application in industrial sectors such as the aerospace, packaging, renewable energy, and automotive industries to realize sustainability goals. The utilization of halogen-free flame retardants is beneficial for better air quality, reducing toxic gas and smoke emissions.

The methods under investigation are the Schur complement method and the Lagrange multiplier based finite element tearing and interconnecting method, and their solvers. The performance of these methods has been investigated in detail for two-dimensional magnetic field problems as case studies.

Cognitive infocommunications (CogInfoCom) is an interdisciplinary field that targets engineering applications based on emergent synergies between ICT and the cognitive sciences. The unique perspective of CogInfoCom enables researchers to focus on both the qualitative and quantitative analysis of cognitive capabilities in application areas where humans are becoming increasingly entangled with and dependent on intelligent networked services. An international conference on the field has been held every year since 2010, and the two most recent events have been supported by the IEEE. In this paper, we provide an overview of the various research directions which have been represented at the conference series, and which have as a result gained strong relevance to CogInfoCom during the past few years.

New effective MILP models for PFSPs arising from real applications

Permutation flow shop problems (PFSPs) with makespan minimization that model production lines working in industry often have some special features: they are typically large-scale and the jobs can be sorted into types so that jobs of the same type have equal processing time values at each machine. We define the related R-PFSP, the Permutation with Repetition Flow Shop Problem, which is of less complexity if the number of types is bounded. Moreover, a subproblem set of R-PFSPs, the RL-PFSP is considered too, where only those permutations are in the design space in which subsequent tuples of a certain size contain jobs of the same type. We construct adequate new MILP models for R-PFSPs and RL-PFSPs and investigate their effectiveness experimentally. We demonstrate that via our new MILP models significantly larger problems can be solved than via the classical MILP models. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.

Application of chlorogenic acid in dairy product enrichment/fortification – a review

Chlorogenic acid (CGA), also known as 5-O-caffeoylquinic acid, is one of the most abundant phenolic compounds in nature. CGA exhibits antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, neuroprotective, cardiovascular, hepatoprotective, and metabolic regulatory properties. Due to the high usage of milk and fermented milk products, dairy becomes an excellent food source for CGA fortification, focusing on exploiting health benefits for consumers. An increasing trend exists in utilizing plant materials rich in CGA in dairy formulations to enhance dairy products' antioxidant profile and health-promoting potential. This review examines 58 recent studies on CGA incorporation into dairy products, focusing on their chemistry, biological activities, processing methods, and potential challenges for fortification. Extraction techniques such as microwave-assisted extraction and ultrasonic-assisted methods are preferred over conventional methods due to their efficiency and the quality of the extracts. In dairy formulations, thermal processing, high-pressure homogenization, controlled fermentation, and encapsulation techniques are critical for maintaining the stability and efficacy of CGA. Encapsulation with materials like β-cyclodextrin and chitosan nanoparticles enhances CGA stability during processing, storage, and digestion. This review emphasizes the significance of understanding CGA-protein interactions in dairy matrices, as these can either protect CGA from degradation or influence its bioavailability. The findings of this study underscore, in heat-treated and fermented dairy systems, that processing-induced CGA-milk protein interactions safeguard CGA from oxidative damage and improve CGA's bioaccessibility. Further research is needed to optimize CGA fortification strategies in dairy products to maximize their functional benefits.

APPLICATION OF FUZZY MCDM IN SELECTING ECO-FRIENDLY MATERIALS FOR ELECTRIC VEHICLE INTERIORS

The growing demand for sustainable solutions in the automotive industry has led to a significant focus on eco-friendly materials for electric vehicle (EV) interiors. This research paper explores the application of Fuzzy Multi-Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM) in selecting optimal eco-friendly materials for EV interiors. Fuzzy MCDM provides a robust framework to handle the inherent uncertainty and subjectivity in evaluating multiple criteria such as recyclability, durability, strength, comfort, aesthetic appeal, carbon footprint, price, energy requirements, and complexity in manufacturing. By employing a combination of Fuzzy-Entropy and Fuzzy-TOPSIS, this study aims to prioritize materials that offer the best balance of environmental sustainability and performance. Entropy is employed to evaluate the criteria weights, whereas TOPSIS (Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution) is applied to select the ideal sustainable materials for EV interiors and to rate the alternatives. The final result reveals that Polyethylene Terephthalate is the most suitable material alternative for EV interiors, significantly enhancing the sustainability of the automotive industry. In contrast, Bamboo Fiber Composite ranks the lowest among the alternatives, indicating it is the least favorable option in the group. The final outcomes from the fuzzy-entropy-TOPSIS model are also compared to six others solo MCDM models and the ranking stability is also verified through sensitivity analysis.

A Study of Unmanned Store Adoption among University Students: A Control Variable Perspective

In the past nine years, a significant trend has emerged in the retail sector with the rise of cashier less and unmanned stores. This technological innovation is becoming increasingly widespread across various countries, although its availability remains somewhat limited in Hungary. The current study investigates the extent to which students in Hungarian higher education institutions are willing to adopt this technology. It explores the factors influencing attitudes toward cashierless shopping, using the extended Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT2) as the theoretical framework. Seven hypotheses were formulated based on a comprehensive review of existing literature and research models. In addition to these core hypotheses, the study also assessed whether three control variables income, gender, and location had an impact on key latent variables within the model. Data collection was conducted via an online questionnaire, which garnered responses from 843 participants. The study employed variance-based structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) to analyse and test the proposed research model. The results revealed that performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, and hedonic motivation had a strong and positive influence on behavioural intention toward using cashier less stores. Regarding the control variables, significant relationships were identified between income and atmosphere variable, as well as income and price sensitivity. Furthermore, gender was found to have a significant influence on hedonic motivation, suggesting that these demographic factors play a moderating role in shaping attitudes toward unmanned store technology. The findings of this study provide valuable insights for practitioners and policymakers in the retail industry who are considering the implementation of cashier less technology. The diffusion of this technology is expected to grow, making it crucial to investigate factors that influence not only intentions but also the actual use of unmanned stores.
