Trade was deep rooted in the world locally. The global doors opened up more recently and new ideas for trading and making product in multiple locations are even more nascent, close to the 80 s. This gave us the topic of global value chains (GVC) to study, reflect and understand the shift in global trade. Since then, the subject has gained interest from both academics and decision-makers. Since the development of the topic of global value chains (GVCs), production has altered a lot. Due to lower transportation and communication charges, many firms have abandoned the custom of making all their products and services in a single nation and inside their organisational borders. GVCs can offer various benefits for firms and countries, such as access to new markets, technologies, skills, and resources. However, GVCs also pose challenges like coordination costs, quality control, environmental and social standards, and value-added distribution. This has led to the advancement of literature; however, there remains a gap in understanding how the barriers and drivers of Sustainability in GVC affect it. This study has been undertaken to address this gap and has used the Grey-DEMATEL technique. Study shows significant relationships among factors like Greenwashing, the COVID-19 pandemic, and Blockchain technology, which policymakers can use to improve Sustainability within the value chains.

Development of a multibody model for go-karts considering frame flexibility

This study focuses on the optimization dynamics of racing go-karts, which is heavily influenced by the frame's stiffness. Lacking suspensions and differentials, go-karts rely on the frame stiffness for wheel balancing and skid prevention by lifting the inner rear wheel during turns. Utilizing a rigid-flexible model in MSC Software ADAMS View, validated by frame deformation measurements, this research integrates finite element analysis with multibody techniques. The model, leverages computer aided design files for frame geometry and employs finite element analysis for frame validation. It facilitates evaluating go-kart dynamics through simulations, aiding in maneuver testing and design optimization. This approach provides a comprehensive framework for advancing go-kart designs.

Nowadays, more information is available about the activities of the Eurasian beaver (Castor fiber) as an ecosystem engineer species and the resulting ecosystem services. The environment-shaping activity of beavers not only affects the bed conditions of a given body of water but also affects the degree of diversity of the vegetation and fauna surrounding it. The research published in connection with this topic has only in recent years begun to deal more intensively with the condition characterisation and function analysis of the flooded areas under constant beaver influence, called beaver meadows. The focus of this paper is the investigation of beaver meadows directly connected to the dam system consisting of 19 beaver dams located along the Ablánc stream. The research examines the effect of the activity of the beaver colony, which has been continuously monitored for almost two years, on the soil moisture conditions of the beaver meadows in the Natura 2000 nature conservation area and to what extent this is reflected in the characteristics of the plant community. The focus of the analysis is the vertical distribution of soil moisture in the upper soil layer. During the vegetation mapping, 10 squares were designated to determine plant community parameters. High soil moisture values were detected in the examined quadrates, which varied between 39.0 φ% and a maximum of 50.0 φ%. A significant number of taxa could be identified - such as Myosoton aquaticum and Petasites hybridus - whose primary ecological requirements are a permanent wet environment and continuous water impact.

Can multifarious types of green bonds be accused of greenwashing with a durative analysis? Insights from a permanent causality vs. temporary causality phenomenon

Green bonds are useful monetary tools that can finance sustainable endeavors to bolster an eco-friendly economy. This research inspects the frequency-domain causal relationship between diverse green bond types and the green economy from June 30, 2014 to August 3, 2023. The goal is to understand both permanent and temporary causal phenomena between them. The findings reveal that only pioneering green bonds display a robust bidirectional causal link with an eco-efficient economy. Meanwhile, other green bond types, like conventional, municipal, and currency-dominated green bonds, may be susceptible to greenwashing due to the absence of a thorough permanent causal tie with an ecologically sustainable economy. Additionally, enhancing pioneering green bonds by integrating ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) stocks can transform the cause-and-effect dynamic between specific green bonds and the green economy. It shifts from a bilateral cause to a unilateral one stemming from the environmentally friendly economy and extending to distinguished green bonds. This phenomenon persists whether the 5% annual fee for sustaining and managing the index combining green bonds and ESG equities is considered or not. Interestingly, an environmentally conscious economy, in both persistent and transient associations, consistently affects ecological bonds with diverse traits. This highlights the importance of the overall state of an environmentally responsible economy in enhancing green bonds. These discoveries provide novel perspectives for green market regulators and policymakers to design improved standards for green assets.

Artificial intelligence (AI) techniques have been gaining much attention due to their ability to provide options to tackle the challenges we are currently facing. However, the successful application of AI to solve problems of current interest requires AI to be integrated with associated process systems engineering methods and tools that are already available or being developed. In this perspective paper, we highlight the use of a collection of process systems engineering methods and tools augmented by AI techniques to solve problems related to process manufacturing, with a focus on chemical product design, process synthesis and design, process control, and process safety and hazards.

Sustainable Development in the Sahel Region

Scientists from various fields have long examined the factors contributing to sustainable development in Africa. The paper investigates the topic of sustainable development focusing on a very special part of Africa, the Sahel region, which is an ecoclimatic and biogeographic region of Africa facing many challenges. Consequently, the secondary research to be presented in this paper aims to review some projects and actions taken by various organizations, like the United Nations and the African Union, that stimulate sustainable development in the Sahel region. Accordingly, it focuses on a few of those projects and actions, which, on the one hand, enable sustainable agriculture, the reduction of malnutrition and food insecurity, and water usage combined with latrine construction, and which, on the other hand, enhance natural resource management and increasing resilience to climate change. The paper concludes with some remarks regarding the efficacy of these projects and actions from the viewpoint of sustainability, and finds that even though these projects and actions are of significance, there is still a long road ahead to reach sustainable development in the Sahel region.

Mental and physical health of yoga practitioners women in relation to exercise parameters

Introduction: Numerous international studies have shown that yoga practice has a positive effect on the physical and mental condition of healthy people and can play a role in the complementary treatment of certain diseases with appropriate guidance. Research on yoga practitioners has found positive correlations between several health indicators and the frequency of yoga practice and, in part, the yoga practice time. In terms of women s health, yoga has been shown to have a positive effect in relieving depression, anxiety and stress and several somatic symptoms. Objective: The aim of our study is to assess the subjective mental and physical symptoms of the health of Hungarian women practicing yoga, and to examine the associations between these variables between groups separated by yoga time and frequency. Methods: The study sample consisted of 457 healthy women with a mean age of 42.28 years (SD = 11.72), yoga practitioners 72%, and yoga instructors 27.7%. The Depression Anxiety Stress Scale-21 (DASS-21), Positive and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS), Self-rated Health, and the Patient Health Questionnaire Somatic Symptom Severity Scale (PHQ-15) were used to measure the variables. Differences between the formed groups were analyzed by Kruskal-Wallis H and Mann-Whitney U tests. Results: We found a statistically significant difference between the three yoga time groups (beginner 1-6 months, intermediate 7-35 months, advanced ≥3 years) in depression (x2(2, n = 457) = 23.205, p < 0.001), anxiety (x2( 2, n = 457) = 9.489, p = 0.009), stress (x2(2, n = 457) = 27.224, p < 0.001), positive affect (x2(2, n = 456) = 7.689, p = 0.021), negative affect (x2( 2, n = 456) = 46.177, p < 0.001), self-rated health (x2(2, n = 457) = 28.862, p < 0.001) and somatic symptoms (x2(2, n = 455) = 26.022, p < 0.001) score. We also found a significant differences between the two yoga frequency groups (1-2 times per week and 3-7 times per week) in depression (U(1) = 19148.50, n1 = 161, n2 = 295, Z =-3.508, p < 0.001), stress (U(1) = 19588.50, n1 = 161, n2 = 295, Z =-3.107, p = 0.002), positive affect (U(1) = 18189.00, n1 = 161, n2 = 294, Z =-4.090, p < 0.001), negative affect (U(1) = 18456.50, n1 = 161, n2 = 294, Z =-3.894, p < 0.001), self-rated health (U(1) = 18244.00, n1 = 161, n2 = 295, Z =-4.873, p < 0.001) and somatic symptoms (U(1) = 19777.50, n1 = 160, n2 = 294, Z =-2.817, p = 0.005). A medium effect size difference was observed for negative affectivity and small effect size differences were observed for the other measured variables. Conclusions: Yoga could be recommended for relieving depression, anxiety, stress, and somatic symptoms, as well as a possible coping strategy for dealing with stress for healthy women. The results suggest that prolonged yoga practice (in years) or repeated physical exercises of yoga (asana) several times a week (3 or more times) may provide the greatest health benefits.

COVID-19 Alters Respiratory Function Associations in High-Level Athletes

Background and Objectives: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has affected multiple physiological systems, including respiratory function, which is critical for athletic performance. Although alterations in pulmonary dynamics have been observed in high-level athletes recovering from COVID-19, the effects on respiratory function remain unclear. In this context, the present study aimed to examine the impact of COVID-19 on the interrelationships among respiratory function parameters in high-level athletes. Materials and Methods: Sixty-eight high-level athletes participated in the present study, including 34 with a history of COVID-19 and 34 controls without prior infection. Respiratory function and respiratory muscle strength were assessed using a digital spirometer (Pony FX, Cosmed, Italy). Key variables included Forced Vital Capacity (FVC), Peak Expiratory Flow (PEF), Maximum Voluntary Ventilation (MVV), Forced Expiratory Volume in one second (FEV1), and Maximum Inspiratory/Expiratory Pressure (MIP/MEP). Results: High-level athletes with prior COVID-19 infection exhibited significant differences in the correlations (p < 0.05) between FVC and PEF, FVC and MVV, FEV1 and FEV1/FVC, and MIP and MVV compared to controls. Conclusions: These findings suggest that COVID-19 can disrupt the interrelationships among respiratory function parameters in high-level athletes, highlighting the need for further longitudinal investigations.

DETECTION PROCESS OF ENERGY LOSS IN ELECTRIC RAILWAY VEHICLES

The paper deals with the detection process of energy loss in electric railway hauling vehicles. The importance of efficient energy use in railways and cost-effective rail transport tendency toward regenerative braking energy are considered. In addition, the current situation and improvement opportunities to achieve efficient energy use are examined. Seven measurement series were performed with scheduled Railjet trains between Hegyeshalom and Győr railway stations in Hungary. This railway section is related to the Hungarian State Railways' No. 1 main railway line (between Budapest-Kelenföld and Hegyeshalom state board), which is a part of the international railway line between Budapest and Vienna (capitals of Hungary and Austria, respectively). This double-track, electrified railway line with traditional ballasted superstructures and continuously welded rail tracks is important due to the international passenger and freight transport between Germany, Austria, and Hungary. The value of the regenerative braking energy can be even 20-30% of the total consumed energy. This quite enormous untapped energy can be used for several aims, e.g., for comfort energy demand (air conditioning, heating-cooling, lighting, etc.) or energy-intensive starts. The article also investigates the optimization of regenerative braking energy by seeking the energy-waste locations and the reasons for the significant consumption. The train operator's driving style and habit have been identified as one of the main reasons. Furthermore, train driver assistance systems are recommended to save energy, which is planned for future research.
