Resistance to Tensile Stress and Foam Structure Formation in Chemically Foamed rPET Blends †

Publication Name: Engineering Proceedings

Publication Date: 2024-01-01

Volume: 79

Issue: 1

Page Range: Unknown

Description:

This research investigates the correlation between tensile strength, tensile strain, and porosity in chemically foamed recycled poly(ethylene-terephthalate) (rPET) samples. Tensile strength and strain were measured on non-foamed samples to predict the porosity of the foamed samples. Utilizing various flame retardants and additives, we analyzed their impact on mechanical properties and structures. However, neither tensile strength nor strain demonstrated a reliable correlation with the resulting porosity. Strain values did not consistently predict porosity, indicating the significant role of additive types and concentrations.

Harnessing community participation tourism development in Himalayan region of Uttarakhand State, India

Publication Name: Journal of Infrastructure Policy and Development

Publication Date: 2024-01-01

Volume: 8

Issue: 12

Page Range: Unknown

Description:

The article aims to evaluate the participation of below-poverty-line local community in tourism-related business activity in Himalayan state of Uttarakhand. Further, this article addressed for those who work in the tourism sector. The study employs a mix of methods, including survey data from 500 respondents with a random sampling approach, using Analysis of variance (ANOVA) statistical tools for analysis, other methods were interviews and observations at six tourism sites in Garhwal and four sites in Kumaun. Our findings showed that there has declined in community participation in tourism development, due to the lack of economic benefits obtained in the tourism sector, many believe that the tourism sector does not provide much income growth for them and does not make a significant contribution to the development of their region. Moreover, lack of understanding is considered the basis for community’s inability to play an active role, and lack of stakeholders’ involvement in encouraging them to improve their economy and culture through the tourism sector. Ultimately, this research also underlines the existence of some efforts by tourism travel to encourage public trust, which can help reduce poverty and increase community trust in tourism development in their region.

Description:

In the field of education, the effectiveness of interactive and collaborative learning support is significantly enhanced by advanced digital and artificial intelligence (AI)- based solutions. These tools are revolutionising not only teaching methods but also the learning experience. The use of AI enables a better understanding of learners' individual needs and learning styles and the design of personalised learning programmes. For example, adaptive learning systems analyse learner performance in real time and provide immediate feedback, as well as automatically adapting curricula according to students' progress. Interactive digital platforms allow students to collaborate, even from geographically distant locations. Such platforms often include video-conferencing features, collaborative workspaces and real-time collaboration tools to facilitate collaborative project work and group task solving. AI-based chatbots and virtual assistants provide ongoing support, answering learners' questions and helping them to navigate the course material. Gamification is also becoming increasingly important, integrating playful elements into the learning process to motivate and engage learners. AI has the ability to track students' progress in games and provide them with personalised challenges. Through data analytics, teachers can gain detailed insights into student progress and provide more targeted support. In this article, we explore the methodological and technological possibilities supported by modern digital interactive tools to support collaborative, adaptive learning processes. In a nutshell, we also refer to artificial intelligence-based possibilities.

Tech titans: Generation Z’s role in the FinTech evolution

Publication Name: Journal of Infrastructure Policy and Development

Publication Date: 2024-01-01

Volume: 8

Issue: 10

Page Range: Unknown

Description:

The accessibility of FinTech services is increasing, and their convenience is making them more popular than traditional banks, particularly among Generation Z. The objective of this research is to identify and compare the factors influencing the conscious use of FinTech services among Generation Z members, who are the most active participants in this field of financial technology. The questionnaire based purposive sample consisted of Generation Z students who demonstrated adequate financial literacy and utilized FinTech, and who were learning in a university environment in Hungary and Romania. A sample of 600 respondents was selected for analysis after cleaning the data online. The methodological approach entailed the utilization of covariance-based structural equation modeling (CB-SEM). The results indicate that social influence (β = 0.18), consumer attitude (β = 0.53) and facilitating conditions intention (β = 0.11) all have a significant effect on the behavior intention, explaining 49% of the variance. In the context of performance expectation, the effect of facilitating conditions intention is not significant (p = 0.491). The motivation of Generation Z towards fintech solutions is evident in their preference for speed and ease of use. However, in order to reinforce consumer expectations and transfer the necessary experience and attitudes, it may be beneficial for service providers to adopt a partially different strategy in different countries. Generation Z can thus serve as a crucial reference point for the even more discerning expectations of subsequent generations. The findings may inform the formulation of strategies for fintech service providers to better understand customer behavior.

Influencer-consumer fit and intention to co-create brand value: The serial mediation of influencer authenticity and attitude toward brand

Publication Name: Journal of Infrastructure Policy and Development

Publication Date: 2024-01-01

Volume: 8

Issue: 9

Page Range: Unknown

Description:

Social media influencer marketing has emerged as an essential marketing strategy in the online interactive environment. This study investigates the impact of influencer-consumer fit (ICF) on behavioral intentions; intention to co-create brand value (ICC) and purchase intention (PI), with the serial mediation of influencer authenticity (IA) and attitude toward brand (ATB). A self-administered questionnaire was distributed to followers of social media influencers in Pakistan. The data were collected from 421 female followers of social media influencers through survey and partial least squares—structural equation modeling was used for data analysis. The findings reveal that ICF impacts IA, while the latter impacts ATB. ATB in turn impacts behavioral intentions. The direct effects suggest that ICF impacts consumers’ PI but not the ICC. However, with the serial mediation of IA and ATB, the relationship becomes significant. The findings of this study may assist managers in building brand strategies to achieve excellence in a highly dynamic and competitive market by leveraging the power of influencer marketing.

Development of Injection Moulded Electromagnetic Pulse Shielded Polymer Cover

Publication Name: Advances in Transdisciplinary Engineering

Publication Date: 2024-01-01

Volume: 59

Issue: Unknown

Page Range: 186-193

Description:

Technology for an electromagnetic pulse shielded injection moulded product was developed, using in-mould metal mesh and a 3D printed spacer made of the same type of acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene as the injection moulded polymer. The functional and mechanical properties of the manufactured flat and dumbbel specimens were tested. The metal mesh increased the stiffness of the plastic, decreased its Charpy impact strength, and did not significantly affect its tensile strength. Computed tomography scans confirmed that delamination and microcracking occur during the failure due to different elongation of the plastic and metal. The attenuation at 1 GHz was 16-19 dB, depending on the metal mesh used. The shielding properties were affected by the fact that the high pressure at the mould filling during the injection moulding process distorted the geometry of the metal mesh.

Synthesis of N-best Heat Recovery Networks with Consideration of Dynamic Control Performance

Publication Name: Chemical Engineering Transactions

Publication Date: 2024-01-01

Volume: 114

Issue: Unknown

Page Range: 73-78

Description:

Recently, graph-theoretic methods have increasingly been employed to generate near-best (n-best) heat recovery networks, aiming to maximize energy recovery efficiency. The exploration of these n-best networks has proven pivotal for making informed decisions. Nevertheless, existing studies in this domain have not attempted to study the favourability of these generated networks based on their respective dynamic control performance. This performance metric reflects the network's ability to maintain target temperature even under disturbances. The network topologies play important role in both economic (i.e., total annual cost (TAC)) and dynamic control aspects. To address this gap, this work introduces a hybrid approach. First, all combinatorically feasible heat recovery networks are generated using P-HENS. Thereafter, each network undergoes dynamic control performance evaluation through Aspen Plus simulations. The final step involves optimization of the network structures based on fuzzy method which avoids over-prioritization. To illustrate the efficacy of the proposed methodology, it is applied to solve a 5-stream problem. Results showed that Network A with the least TAC ($122,249) is not necessarily associated with the greatest dynamic performance (with failure rate of 15 %). Network C which offers the balance performance (with TAC of $122,666 and failure rate of 0 %) is chosen.

The Hungarian Constitutional Court’s practice on restrictions of fundamental rights during the special legal order (2020–2023)

Publication Name: European Politics and Society

Publication Date: 2024-01-01

Volume: 25

Issue: 3

Page Range: 556-573

Description:

The paper deals with the practice of the Hungarian Constitutional Court regarding the restrictions of fundamental rights during the state of danger between 2020 and 2023. The state of danger–which is a type of special legal order in Hungary–was first introduced in March 2020 due to Covid-19. The rules of the Fundamental Law related to the special legal order reserve the Government the opportunity of broader restrictions on certain fundamental rights than in a normal legal order. It was the first period when the Constitutional Court could have established its practice and defined its own role in a special legal order, since the democratic transition in Hungary. The need for the interpretation of the constitutional rules on special legal order never applied before has posed a significant challenge to the Constitutional Court. The paper first examines the development of the constitutional rules on special legal order situations since the democratic transition, then reviews the most important parts of the Constitutional Court’s practice on the cases related to the restrictions of fundamental rights in special legal order with a focus on the elements of the test used for checking the constitutionality of the challenged items of legislation.

CHANGES IN HOUSEHOLD INCOME AFTER POLAND'S ACCESSION TO THE EUROPEAN UNION

Publication Name: Economics and Sociology

Publication Date: 2024-01-01

Volume: 17

Issue: 4

Page Range: 295-314

Description:

Income is crucial to meeting life's needs. Changes in its size and structure are fundamental determinants of living standards in the countryside. The article presents an analysis of the economic situation of inhabitants of rural areas during the period of Poland's integration with the European Union (years 2002-2022 or 2004-2022). The main indicators are the level, structure and relations of income. Households of basic socio-economic groups and by place of residence (rural and urban) were compared. The study showed convergence of the standard of living of rural and urban inhabitants and of farmers and other groups of households. Convergence was primarily the result of a higher dynamics of income growth of rural in-habitants than of urban inhabitants and farmers compared to other groups of households. This was mainly the result of significant financial support directed to rural areas and farmers, among others, within the framework of the common agricultural policy. The 20th anniversary of Poland's accession to the European Union is an opportunity to sum up and assess how Poland's membership in the EU has affected the standard and quality of life of the Polish population, especially the inhabitants of rural areas.
