This study investigates the overstrength factor (Ω of an innovative-shaped metallic shear damper designed for enhancing seismic resilience in concentrically braced frames (CBFs . To evaluate the influence of geometric variables-including web/flange thickness, damper height, and slenderness ratios (λw, λf, λℎ-a parametric study was conducted using 100 finite element models validated against experimental tests. The results demonstrate that all considered-shaped dampers exhibit Ω values exceeding 1.5, surpassing the A SC recommendations for shear links. t was found that while increasing web plate thickness significantly improves ultimate strength (up to 2.35 times, it tends to reduce Ω . Conversely, increasing flange thickness enhances both ultimate strength and Ω, challenging current guidelines that often neglect flange contributions. Specifically, within the flange slenderness range of 10 ≤ λf ≤ 15, the reduction rate of structural parameters is most significant. To ensure balanced seismic performance and economic efficiency, this study proposes designing dampers with a web slenderness ratio of λw ≤ 33 and a strength ratio of Ψ > 5.0. These findings offer uuantitative insights for refining design guidelines to accurately reflect the damper’s overstrength capacity.

Purpose – This study aims to investigate how psychological green climate (PGC), green organisational citizenship behaviour (GOCB) and green self-efficacy (GSE) play a role in the relationship between green human resource management (GHRM) and environmental performance (EP) in healthcare organisations. Design/methodology/approach – The research has applied a quantitative research method using partial least squares structural equation modelling to test the hypotheses from a conceptual framework derived from the literature. The research collected data from 509 employees (managerial and non-managerial) from healthcare organisations in Bangladesh employing a cross-sectional survey using two steps of non-probability sampling, i.e. purposive sampling and convenience sampling for data collection through a self-administered questionnaire. Findings – The findings from this research are three-fold. Firstly, GHRM does not have a direct effect on EP. Secondly, PGC and GOCB partially and sequentially mediate between GHRM and EP. Thirdly, GSE and GOCB partially and sequentially mediate between GHRM and the EP of healthcare organisations. Practical implications – The study makes recommendations for healthcare managers and policymakers with regards ensuring environmental sustainability focusing on the employee’s behaviour and psychological factors. As the healthcare sector is a service provider to a variety of stakeholders in Bangladesh, ultimately this study contributes to society and the country as a whole. Originality/value – The study contributes to the sustainability literature relating to healthcare organisations, applying social cognitive theory and the norm activation model to underpin the role PGC, GSE and GOCB play individually and collectively to improve EP through GHRM implementation.

This work introduces a new approach for probabilistic elastoplastic topology optimization based on the improved bidirectional structural optimization (BESO) technique. To consider uncertainties, the volume fraction and the material properties are considered randomly. Thus, the reliability-based design is integrated into the deterministic design by applying a reliability constraint to the optimization problem. Furthermore, using limit analysis, a bound is applied to the plastic limit load multipliers to govern the plastic behavior of the problems. Results from a 2D benchmark problem are used to illustrate how adequate the approach that has been provided is. Also, a 2D elastoplastic numerical example is shown to illustrate the proposed method's capability of identifying the best topology for elastoplastic models in the context of reliability-based design. The results indicate that the reliability constraints work effectively as a bound that reduces the yielding states.

Dissipation-Induced Luttinger Liquid Correlations in a One-Dimensional Fermi Gas

We study a one-dimensional Fermi gas in the presence of dissipative coupling to environment through the Lindblad equation. The dissipation involves energy exchange with the environment and favours the relaxation of electrons to excitations. After switching on the dissipation, the system approaches a steady state, which is described by a generalized Gibbs ensemble. The fermionic single particle density matrix resembles deceivingly to that in a hermitian interaction quench. It decays inversely with the distance for short times due to the fermionic correlations in the initial state, which changes into a noninteger power law decay for late times, representing dissipation-induced Luttinger liquid behavior. However, the crossover between the two regions occurs due to dissipation-induced damping, and is unrelated to the propagation of excitations. The velocity of information spreading is set by the dissipative coupling, and differs significantly from the original sound velocity. The thermodynamic entropy grows as -t ln t initially, and saturates to an extensive value. Our results can be tested experimentally in one-dimensional Dirac systems.

Large numbers of mobile wireless nodes that can move randomly and join or leave the network at any moment make up mobile ad-hoc networks. A significant number of messages are delivered during information exchange in populated regions because of the Internet of Things' (IoT) exponential increase in connected devices. Congestion can increase transmission latency and packet loss by causing congestion. More network size, increased network traffic, and high mobility that necessitate dynamic topology make this problem worse. An adaptive Multipath Multichannel Energy Efficient (AMMEE) routing strategy is proposed in this study, in which route selection strategies depend on forecasted energy consumption per packet, available bandwidth, queue length, and channel utilization. While multichannel uses a channel-ideal assignment process to lessen network collisions, multipath offers various paths and balances network strain. The link bandwidth is split up into a few sub-channels in the multichannel mechanism. To reduce network collisions, several source nodes simultaneously access the channel bandwidth. The cooperative multipath multichannel technique offers several paths from a single source or from several sources to the destination without colliding or becoming congested. The AMMEE routing approach is the basis for path selection. A load-and bandwidth-aware routing mechanism in the proposed AMMEE chooses the path based on node energy and forecasts their lifetime, which improves network dependability. The outcome demonstrates a comparative analysis of various multichannel medium access control (MMAC) techniques, including Parallel Rendezvous Multi Channel Medium Access Protocol (PRMMAC), Quality of Service Ad hoc On Demand Multipath Distance Vector (QoS-AOMDV), Q-learning-based Multipath Routing (QMR), and Topological Change Adaptive Ad hoc On-demand Multipath Distance Vector (TA-AOMDV) and the proposed AMMEE method. The results show that the AMMEE approach outperforms alternative systems.

Princes of Igboland: inchoate feudalization, feudal masculinity and postcolonial patriarchy in Ifeoma Okoye’s radical feminist narratives

Space for emancipatory projects during military rule in Nigeria shrinks considerably (1983–1999, with short interruptions). This affects anti-feudalist initiatives and radical feminist movements equally. Ifeoma Okoye, the preeminent socialist-feminist writer of Igboland, publishes novels and short stories in these years that deal with women’s lives and that attack post-colonial patriarchy. Her novel Men Without Ears also uncovers the mechanisms by which processes of feudalization come to characterize ethnic Igbo regions that hitherto had had no traditional rulers. Okoye in the novel weaves a narrative around a particularly toxic kind of masculinity, feudal masculinity, which imprints the newly instituted faux Igbo royal and faux Igbo feudatory. In Okoye’s world, Nigerian mainstream academic feminists, criminal uncles who try to disinherit orphans, and Igbo royalty with invented ranks but with very real thugs in their employ, all represent the comprador class that directs the developmental failure of Nigeria under military rule and beyond.

Extracting LPV and qLPV structures from state-space functions: A TP model transformation based framework

This paper proposes a tensor product (TP) model transformation-based framework requiring minimal human intuition to numerically reconstruct linear time invariant, Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy model-based linear parameter varying and quasi-linear parameter varying representations of state-space models. The proposed framework facilitates the manipulation of the structure of the system matrix, the parameter vector - including state elements - and the vertex systems. The motivation behind this capability is that all of these structural components strongly influence the control design and the resulting control performance. An important feature of the framework is that it is agnostic towards the formulation of the state-space model, i.e., whether it is given using soft-computing-based techniques or closed formulae. The proposed approach is an extension of the TP model-based control design framework and inherits all of its advantageous properties, e.g., it can be easily used to find minimal representations, including the higher order singular value-based canonical form, and it supports the clear formulation of complexity/accuracy tradeoffs and allows for conversions to various types of convex representations, making for a flexible way to manipulate the weighting and antecedent functions. This paper gives examples to show how the framework can be used in a routine-like fashion and to highlight how it can be applied to the problem of finding useful T-S fuzzy model variations of a given model.

The goal of this article is to examine the advantages and disadvantages of the application of drones in last-mile delivery systems from a sustainability point of view regarding CO2 emissions and energy consumption. As commercial drones are developing rapidly, the application of such tools in the field of last-mile delivery and transportation can offer many opportunities to increase service flexibility, reduce delivery time and decrease CO2 emissions and energy consumption. In this article, a discrete event simulation is applied to examine how the assistance of drones in parcel delivery services can influence the sustainability aspects of such services regarding CO2 emissions and energy consumption in an urban environment. Based on factory parameters, a vehicle-based delivery scenario is compared to a drone-assisted scenario under ideal conditions. According to the results, within the simulation parameters with the assistance of drones, a decrease in CO2 emissions and energy consumption is possible in last-mile delivery services, but more environmental, technological and financial limitations should also be addressed and incorporated to determine whether such a development is worthwhile from a last-mile delivery company’s point of view.
