Robustness Estimation in TEAM 35 Problem with Interacting Geometric and Current-Density Uncertainties

This paper revisits Problem A of the TEAM 35 benchmark from the viewpoint of robustness estimation under manufacturing uncertainty. Rather than treating the original extremal-position-based sensitivity metric as the formulation to be improved, it is used only as a baseline for comparison with other metrics. In this work, robustness is evaluated as the largest degradation of the nominal magnetic-field homogeneity objective observed over prescribed sets of admissible manufacturing perturbations. In addition to turn-position uncertainties, the present study also includes uncertainty in the excitation current density. While turn-position errors affect each turn individually, current-density uncertainty affects the error contributions of all turns simultaneously through a common term. This common-mode excitation uncertainty represents an extension of the original benchmark formulation and is one of the paper’s main focal points. Several Design of Experiments (DoE) methodologies, as well as search-based robustness estimation strategies, are compared in terms of error in estimated robustness and computational demand. The results show that the original extremal-position-based approximation can substantially underestimate the sampled robustness of the nominal field-homogeneity objective. Including current-density uncertainty further increases the discrepancy between the original metric and the sampled robustness estimates.

The issue of food waste is a significant global challenge that is closely linked to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Non-governmental organisations (NGOs) are of critical importance in addressing this issue, spearheading initiatives aimed at curbing overproduction and waste. This study introduces the principal non-governmental organisations (NGOs) engaged in food waste reduction and assesses the extent of public awareness of their activities in Hungary. The research is based on secondary data and an online survey of 231 respondents. It explores initiatives such as shopping communities, the Hungarian Food Bank Association, the No Leftovers program, and the Munch app. The findings indicate that food rescue organisations are not widely recognised, which constrains their potential impact. However, younger generations demonstrate greater engagement with digital food-saving solutions. The lack of public awareness underscores the necessity for enhanced marketing and educational initiatives. Furthermore, the study identifies a generational and socioeconomic divide, with younger, higher-income individuals demonstrating a greater commitment to sustainable practices. The study offers insights into how NGOs can enhance their impact through the strategic use of technology and targeted communication.

This study presents an adaptive vector control method for reducing the inductance sensitivity of synchronous reluctance machine drives. In the proposed control structure, the direct and quadrature inductances are identified online by using an extended Kalman filter. Therefore, only the stator resistance of the machine parameters needs to be pre-identified during the installation process. Since variations in inductances can be tracked by the estimator, the proposed adaptive vector control is able to outperform the conventional field-oriented control in cases of inductance uncertainties, as shown by the simulation results.

Parametric Simulation of Tooth-Level Barreling Distribution Effects on Transmission Error Modulation and Spectral Characteristics in a Single Gear Pair

Featured Application: The presented workflow supports early-stage sensitivity analysis of how tooth-level barreling variability influences transmission error and its spectral characteristics. The approach can help identify microgeometry distribution patterns that may increase modulation, sideband activity, and noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) risk in geared drivetrain systems. Transmission error (TE) is a major excitation source in geared systems, but microgeometry deviations are usually evaluated through nominal amplitudes rather than their tooth-to-tooth spatial distribution. This study investigates how different tooth-level barreling deviation patterns influence TE modulation and spectral characteristics in a controlled single helical gear-pair model. The nominal barreling value was kept constant, while four deviation patterns were imposed on the 23-tooth pinion: harmonic, phase-shifted harmonic, clustered with an outlier, and random. The TE response was evaluated in the time domain and by Fast Fourier Transform (FFT)-based spectral analysis, with particular attention to the gear mesh frequency (GMF) and shaft-frequency-spaced sidebands. The results show that identical nominal barreling levels can produce different TE waveforms and spectral signatures. Harmonic distributions mainly preserve a regular response, whereas phase-shifted and clustered patterns increase waveform asymmetry and sideband activity. The clustered outlier case produced the most fault-like response. The findings indicate that tooth-level spatial distribution should be considered explicitly in simulation-based gear microgeometry and noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) sensitivity studies.

In the present work nanowires are investigated, which were prepared with the help of encapsulated metal induced growth method on GaAs and InP substrate. As our former investigations how, we can receive nanowires with substrate-like composition in the case of InP. In the case of GaAs substrate the situation is entirely different, while the growth technology in both cases was the same. The difference between the nanoproducts in the cases of different substrates originate in the reactivity of the components, which is explained in the following considerations. Furthermore we have observed that the diameter of the nanowires depends on the electron energy of the irradiation. If the electron beam was 5 kV and 20 kV, the diameter lasting increases and decreases, respectively. This effect can be explained by the change of the nanowires structure influenced by the electron beam. © 2008 IEEE.

The paper introduces a novel method for constructing Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) Neural Networks (NN) with the aid of fuzzy systems, particularly by deploying fuzzy J-K flip-flops as neurons. The next state Q(t+1) of the J-K fuzzy flip-flops (F3) in terms of input J can be characterized by a more or less S-shaped function, for each F3 derived from the Yager, Dombi, and Fodor norms and co-norms. In this approach, J represents the neuron input. The other input K is wired to the complemental output (K=1-Q), thus an elementary fuzzy sequential unit with a single input and a single output is received. The algebraic F3 having linear J-Q(t+1) characteristics is added to the above three. The paper proposes the investigation of the possibility of constructing multilayer perceptrons from such real fuzzy hardware units. Each of the four candidates for F3-based neurons is examined for its training capability by evaluating and comparing the approximation capabilities for two different transcendental functions. It is a common belief that democratic development involves the extension of rights. Often, a desired extension of rights is one of the main social drivers of democratic transformation. In this study, within the framework of a legal history investigation, I am looking for the answer to the question of whether all extensions of rights are necessarily democratic, and how to distinguish between different extensions of rights and to judge the social usefulness of each extension of rights more accurately? I distinguish two sub-cases of the extension of rights, the subjective and objective versions with different normative consequences. I conclude that it is worth subjecting certain extensions of rights to legal, constitutional and political-social considerations. The extension of rights is not ab ovo or absolutely good, its judgment depends on the given circumstances.
