Application of Z-number based fuzzy MCDM in solar power plant location selection problem in Spatial planning

In order to achieve sustainable energy consumption and development goals, it is of great importance to find suitable locations for the construction of solar power plants. In this study, Geographic Information System (GIS) and Z-Number iteration of Fuzzy Logarithm Additive Weights Methodology (F-LMAW), a recently adopted Multi-Criteria Decision Making Analysis (MCDA) technique, are used to identify the best locations for solar power plant construction in Mersin province. Nineteen criteria were selected for the study and their relative weights and usefulness in ranking the solar power plant locations were estimated. The Weighted Linear Combination (WLC) technique was used to determine the suitability index for solar power plant siting in the study area. According to the analysis made by taking into account the expert opinions for the site selection of solar power plants, the solar radiation criterion was the most important criterion with a weight value of 0,0664, while the distance from the river criterion was the least important criterion with a weight value of 0,0265. A potential suitability map for the solar power plant was produced with the suitability index values. According to the suitability index values, the study area exhibited suitability degrees for solar power plant siting ranging from “suitable (0,0038 %)” to “moderately suitable (0,0034 %)” and “very slightly suitable (0,0033 %)”. Silifke and Mut regions are considered as good locations for solar power plants in Mersin province. The robustness of the proposed technique was determined by sensitivity analysis.

The study seeks to answer the question as to why the combined performance of agriculture and forestry can be explained by the fact that in an EU member state with an agricultural disadvantage and with an advanced economy, the size of the cultivated area is high. The reasons are complex and suggest a deliberately chosen strategy, the essence of which is that in Austria the social perception of agriculture is far more favorable than it would be expected from its GDP contribution. The reasons for this are partly rooted in the history of the past, but may also be linked to a more immediate and strategic decision making primarily on the transformation of the agricultural product structure, the efficient use of resources from the EU, the use of sophisticated tools for rural tourism and, last but not least, on the widespread shaping of the attitudes of the population.

Contribution of ankle motion pattern during landing to reduce the knee-related injury risk

Background: Single-leg landing (SL) is an essential technique in sports such as basketball, soccer, and volleyball, which is often associated with a high risk of knee-related injury. The ankle motion pattern plays a crucial role in absorbing the load shocks during SL, but the effect on the knee joint is not yet clear. This work aims to explore the effects of different ankle plantarflexion angles during SL on the risk of knee-related injury. Methods: Thirty healthy male subjects were recruited to perform SL biomechanics tests, and one standard subject was selected to develop the finite element model of foot-ankle-knee integration. The joint impact force was used to evaluate the impact loads on the knee at various landing angles. The internal load forces (musculoskeletal modeling) and stress (finite element analysis) around the knee joint were simulated and calculated to evaluate the risk of knee-related injury during SL. To more realistically revert and simulate the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury mechanics, we developed a knee musculoskeletal model that reverts the ACL ligament to a nonlinear short-term viscoelastic mechanical mechanism (strain rate-dependent) generated by the dense connective tissue as a function of strain. Results: As the ankle plantarflexion angle increased during landing, both the peak knee vertical impact force (p = 0.001) and ACL force (p = 0.001) decreased significantly. The maximum von Mises stress of ACL, meniscus, and femoral cartilage decreased as the ankle plantarflexion angle increased. The overall range of variation in ACL stress was small and was mainly distributed in the femoral and tibial attachment regions, as well as in the mid-lateral region. Conclusion: The current findings revealed that the use of larger ankle plantarflexion angles during landing may be an effective solution to reduce knee impact load and the risk of rupture of the medial femoral attachment area in the ACL. The findings of this study have the potential to offer novel perspectives in the optimized application of landing strategies, thus giving crucial theoretical backing for decreasing the risk of knee-related injury.

High precision experimentally validated adaptive neuro fuzzy inference system controller for DC motor drive system

The control of a dc motor drive system is performed using two Proportional-Integral (PI) controllers, mostly comprising the outer (speed) and inner (torque) loops. However, the tuning of the PI controllers is challenging, because of the significant overshoot and substantial settling time. The overshoot cannot be absolutely removed without sacrificing the speediness. In this paper, an experimental implementation of Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) based high-precision controllers for a dc motor drive system is presented for eliminating the overshoot contemporaneously improving the settling time. In this regard, for fair comparison, Bode Plot method is used for obtaining most satisfactory values of Kp and Ki of both the controllers and the performance of the proposed ANFIS controllers is compared with the tuned PI controllers. For the sake of validation, an experimental setup, a 2-quadrant dc motor drive based on DS1104 R&D controller board from dSPACE is used. The designed ANFIS controllers are implemented and also authenticated using simulations. The obtained simulation as well as experimental results indicated that the ANFIS controller successfully eliminates the overshoot and significantly improves settling time. Thereby, outclass the tuned PI controllers by giving experimental results as 0% overshoot and just 0.18 s settling time.

Comparison of some economic traits by genetic cluster of Aberdeen Angus cattle

The Angus cattle population of Hungary was categorized into four groups using 12 microsatellite markers exhibiting notable genetic variations. Moreover, some traits influencing the profitability and sustainability of beef cattle farming were compared between groups. Data were obtained from 5075 cows (born between 1990-2020) and 19 142 calves (born between 1997-2023), including 10 629 bull calves and 8513 heifer calves of different genetic backgrounds. Genetic groups were distinguished by origin, color, size, and type: blue group (BG), red group (RG), green group (GG), and yellow group (YG). The six investigated traits were age at first calving (AFC), productive lifespan (PL), number of calves born (NCB), culling age (AGE), birth weight (BW), and the 205 d adjusted weaning weight (WW). The averages of the six tested traits were as follows: AFC - 2.35 ± 0.54 years; NCB - 5.89 ± 3.69 heads; PL - 6.85 ± 4.13 years; AGE - 9.2 ± 4.26 years; BW - 29.4 ± 4.28 kg; and WW - 176.9 ± 44.07 kg. YG excelled in terms of NCB, PL, AGE, and WW traits, while RG performed best in terms of AFC and BW. BG displayed the lowest performance across NCB, PL, AGE, BW, and WW. The heavier Red Angus individuals were largely behind the performance of the traditional-type, smaller British-type Black and Red Angus individuals in the tested traits affecting sustainability and profitability. Significant reproduction and longevity trait differences exist among different genetic groups of Angus beef cattle genotyped by DNA microsatellite information. The results indicated significant differences in terms of the performance of different Angus types with regard to the tested traits. These findings could be useful in developing breeding concepts and making selection decisions, contributing to more efficient and sustainable breeding strategies.

Analysis of coupling in geographic information systems based on WASPAS method for bipolar complex fuzzy linguistic Aczel-Alsina power aggregation operators

The model of bipolar complex fuzzy linguistic set is a very famous and dominant principle to cope with vague and uncertain information. The bipolar complex fuzzy linguistic set contained the positive membership function, negative membership function, and linguistic variable, where the technique of fuzzy sets to bipolar fuzzy sets are the special cases of the bipolar complex fuzzy linguistic set. In this manuscript, we describe the model of Aczel-Alsina operational laws for bipolar complex fuzzy linguistic values based on Aczel-Alsina t-norm and Aczel-Alsina t-conorm. Additionally, we compute the Aczel-Alsina power aggregation operators based on bipolar complex fuzzy linguistic data, called bipolar complex fuzzy linguistic Aczel-Alsina power averaging operator, bipolar complex fuzzy linguistic Aczel-Alsina power weighted averaging operator, bipolar complex fuzzy linguistic Aczel-Alsina power geometric operator, and bipolar complex fuzzy linguistic Aczel-Alsina power weighted geometric operator with some dominant and fundamental laws such as idempotency, monotonicity, and boundedness. Moreover, we initiate the model of the Weighted Aggregates Sum Product Assessment technique with the help of consequent theory. In the context of geographic information systems and spatial information systems, coupling aims to find out the relationships among different components within a geographic information system, where coupling can occur at many stages, for instance, spatial coupling, data coupling, and functional coupling. To evaluate the above dilemma, we perform the model of multi-attribute decision-making for invented operators to compute the best technique for addressing geographic information systems. In the last, we deliberate some numerical examples for comparing the ranking results of proposed and prevailing techniques.

Viral coat proteins decrease the gene silencing activity of cognate and heterologous viral suppressors

Plant viruses have evolved different viral suppressors of RNA silencing (VSRs) to counteract RNA silencing which is a small RNA-mediated sequence-specific RNA degradation mechanism. Previous studies have already shown that the coat protein (CP) of cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) reduced RNA silencing suppression (RSS) activity of the VSR of CMV, the 2b protein. To demonstrate the universality of this CP-VSR interference, our study included three different viruses: CMV and peanut stunt virus (PSV) from the Bromoviridae, and plum pox virus (PPV) from the Potyviridae family. The RSS activity of the three VSRs (CMV 2b, PSV 2b, and PPV HC-Pro) was compared using Agrobacterium-mediated transient expression in Nicotiana benthamiana and the effect of CMV CP, PSV CP and PPV CP was validated on the RSS activity of their cognate and heterologous VSRs as well. Furthermore, the VSRs were also evaluated in PTGS suppressor-deficient CMV mutant (CMV NVE/10–12/AAA) virus-infected plants. The joint presence of CPs and VSRs resulted in decreased RSS activity in each combination, regardless of the origin of the two proteins, suggesting a universal role of the viral CPs in fine tuning of RSS. Interestingly the PSV CP elicited the strongest negative effect on the RSS activity of all three VSRs.

Driving sustainable hydroelectric investments: Leveraging two-step logarithmic normalization for sustainable investment prioritization

Hydroelectric energy investments involve substantial techno-economic risks that can increase costs and undermine economic sustainability if not properly managed. However, the literature lacks comprehensive studies addressing these risks. This study proposes a novel decision-making model to identify and prioritize strategies for effective risk management in hydroelectric projects. The model integrates z-scoring for expert selection, the Criteria Importance Assessment (CIMAS) method for weighting criteria, and the Alternative Ranking using Two-Step Logarithmic Normalization (ARLON) method for ranking EU-15 countries according to their strategies. Pythagorean fuzzy numbers are incorporated to better handle uncertainty and improve evaluation accuracy. Results indicate that challenges in adopting new technologies and grid integration issues are the most influential risk factors. The findings provide actionable insights for policymakers and investors to enhance the sustainability and efficiency of hydroelectric energy investments. Policymakers should implement targeted incentives and regulatory frameworks to accelerate technology adoption and address grid integration challenges in hydroelectric projects. Strategic planning should prioritize infrastructure modernization, cross-border energy cooperation, and capacity-building programs to enhance sector resilience and investment security.

Valuation of ecosystem services from forests in Chinese rural areas based on forest resource investment

Forest resources provide rural areas with abundant products and ecosystem services. However, due to difficulties and shortcomings in assessing the ecosystem service value of these resources in rural areas, investors or funding institutions often lack a comprehensive understanding of their true value. Consequently, challenges such as difficulties in securing rural forestry guarantees, limited loan amounts, and inadequate compensation standards have emerged, resulting in severely restricted investments in rural forest resources. This study aims to address these issues by establishing a comprehensive valuation system for the ecosystem services provided by rural forest resources, thereby enabling a more accurate assessment of their value. This study focuses on Muyun She Nationality Township in Fuan City, China, and valuates the ecosystem service value of the forest resources in this locality. The findings reveal that the annual economic value of ecosystem services provided by forest resources in Muyun She Nationality Township amounts to 397,899,293.49 yuan. Direct value constitutes over 63% of the total, with forest by-products contributing the largest share at 32%, followed by forest-related rural tourism at 31%. This underscores the significant contribution of agricultural products and tourism from rural forest resources to the local economy. Moreover, the study highlights the crucial role of rural forest resources in providing agricultural by-products, promoting rural tourism, enhancing rural economic development, and facilitating rural revitalization efforts. In light of these findings, this paper advocates for private-sector investment, expanding financing channels, and developing tourism projects to diversify investment channels for rural forest resources and increase investment amounts.
