A Novel Motor Modelling Method for Reluctance Motor Electric Vehicle Drive Systems

The field of electric vehicles is one of the most popular research topics today. These vehicles require highly efficient and cost-competitive drive system solutions due to the increasing competition. The reluctance motor drive systems are excellent candidates for fulfilling these requirements However, the controlling of these drive systems is difficult as they represent a heavily nonlinear behavior due to the varying stator inductances. The stator inductances are changing both in the function of the stator currents- and that of the rotor position. This phenomenon makes it necessary to apply advanced modelling solutions that provide a more precise motor model for the torque control algorithm. This paper presents a novel motor modeling method for the reluctance motor drive systems. A new type of inductance matrix is derived, which is a critical part of the motor model. This inductance matrix is used to define new relationships for the electromagnetic torque and the phase voltages of the machine for a given stator current, leading to a novel motor model. This new motor model can serve as an input for the torque control algorithm research and development activities.

Utilizing Different Crop Rotation Systems for Agricultural and Environmental Sustainability: A Review

Monoculture involves growing the same crop on the same land over at least two crop cycles. Continuous monoculture can increase the population density of pests and pathogens over time, thereby reducing agricultural yields and increasing dependence on chemical inputs. Crop rotation is an agricultural practice that involves systematically and sequentially planting different crops in the same field over multiple growing seasons. This review explores the advantages of crop rotation and its contribution to promoting sustainable farming practices, such as legume integration and cover cropping. It is based on a thematic literature review of peer-reviewed studies published between 1984 and 2025. We found that crop rotation can significantly improve soil structure and organic matter content and enhance nutrient cycling. Furthermore, soil organic carbon increased by up to 18% when legumes were included in rotations compared to monoculture systems in Europe, while also mitigating greenhouse gas emissions, enhancing carbon sequestration, and decreasing nutrient leaching and pesticide runoff. Farmers can adopt several strategies to optimise crop rotation benefits, such as diversification of various crops, legume integration, cultivation of cover crops, and rotational grazing. These practices ensure agricultural sustainability and food security and support climate resilience.

Digital Entrepreneurship and Gendered Boundaries: Technology, Work–Life Conflict, and Well-Being

This study explores how women entrepreneurs in a resource-constrained setting adopt and experience personal technology for business purposes within the broader context of digital transformation. Drawing on the technology acceptance model (TAM) and work–life border theory (WLBT), qualitative data were collected through 32 semi-structured interviews with women entrepreneurs operating micro and small enterprises in Mauritius. Findings reveal that perceived usefulness, ease of use, and institutional support drive the adoption of personal devices, enabling flexibility, cost savings, and improved responsiveness to clients. However, constant connectivity also blurs boundaries between work and family life, heightening stress, emotional fatigue, and security concerns, particularly in the absence of technical support. These dynamics unfold in gendered contexts shaped by cultural expectations and caregiving responsibilities, with technology simultaneously supporting business needs while intensifying work–life conflict. Building on these insights, this study proposes a conceptual model highlighting personal technology's dual impact on business performance and well-being, as well as the moderating and mitigating roles of gender norms, structural constraints, and support systems. The findings contribute to scholarship on gender and digital entrepreneurship, offering implications for gender-sensitive policies that promote equitable and supportive technology adoption in similar Global South (GS) contexts.

A Preliminary Study on Laser Surface Texturing of Passenger Car Engine Piston Rings

Laser surface texturing offers a possible solution for reducing friction between sliding surfaces in engineering applications. Optimized surface topography can also contribute to reduced wear and elevated longevity by modifying the load and speed-dependent friction state in a system. This preliminaryexperimental study investigates the applicability of affordable fibre laser marking systems for microtexturing piston rings, in order to achieve a measurable reduction in friction under subsystem model conditions. A selection of textures are applied to chromium-coated cast iron piston rings. The resulting surface topographies are characterized through confocal microscopy and subjected to friction testing. A correlation analysis is conducted on surface topography parameters to identify key laser process parameters. Findings indicate an improvement in the range of 7–8% in terms of friction coefficient with appropriate texture size.

Environmental Impacts of Synthetic Fuels †

In 2024, synthetic fuels regained attention as potential low-emission alternatives for internal combustion engines (ICEs), particularly in sectors where electrification remains challenging. This paper compares the estimated CO2 emission factors of fossil-based fuels and synthetic fuels blended with 20% bioethanol under standardized usage conditions. A key finding is that the emission factor of synthetic fuels is highly dependent on the carbon intensity of the electricity used to produce green hydrogen via electrolysis. Using the projected EU electricity mix for 2030, synthetic fuels show no clear advantage over fossil fuels. However, with a cleaner electricity mix expected by 2050, their emission factor becomes significantly lower. From an economic standpoint, the viability of synthetic fuel production largely depends on reducing green hydrogen costs of €1.50–2.00 per kg through technological advancements and large-scale deployment. This analysis offers a realistic perspective on when and how synthetic fuels could contribute to climate objectives and outlines the technical and economic conditions necessary for their environmental and market viability.

Proper air sealing and the integration of effective shading devices, including roller shutter systems, have been shown to significantly reduce both heating and cooling energy demands, leading to substantial energy savings. Phase portraits and bifurcations induced by static and dynamic friction models

The paper discusses the phase-space structure of six variants of a simple mechanical system that differ in the applied friction model. It is shown that many properties of the Coulomb and the Stribeck models, such as the number of equilibria and their stability, are inherited by the Dahl and the LuGre dynamic friction models, respectively. Exploiting similar relationships, a Coulomb-based and a Stribeck-based version of the Generalized Maxwell-Slip model are also introduced. The detailed analysis of these models reveals a surprisingly rich variety of equilibrium types and bifurcations. Moreover, it is highlighted that the most frequently used values of the Stribeck exponent may lead to atypical results such that even a small deviation from these values changes the bifurcation scenario.

Exploring Generation Z’s Acceptance of Artificial Intelligence in Higher Education: A TAM and UTAUT-Based PLS-SEM and Cluster Analysis

In recent years, the rapid growth of artificial intelligence (AI) has significantly transformed higher education, particularly among Generation Z students who are more open to new technologies. Tools such as ChatGPT are increasingly being used for learning, yet empirical research on their acceptance, especially in Hungary, is limited. This study aims to explore the psychological, technological, and social factors that influence the acceptance of AI among Hungarian university students and to identify different user groups based on their attitudes. The methodological novelty lies in combining two approaches: partial least-squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) and cluster analysis. The survey, based on the TAM and UTAUT models, involved 302 Hungarian students and examined six dimensions of AI acceptance: perceived usefulness, ease of use, attitude, social influence, enjoyment and behavioural intention. The PLS-SEM results show that enjoyment (β = 0.605) is the strongest predictor of the intention to use AI, followed by usefulness (β = 0.167). All other factors also had significant effects. Cluster analysis revealed four groups: AI sceptics, moderately open users, positive acceptors, and AI innovators. The findings highlight that the acceptance of AI is shaped not only by functionality but also by user experience. Educational institutions should, therefore, provide enjoyable and user-friendly AI tools and tailor support to students’ attitude profiles.
