Experimental and numerical investigation of the single-point incremental forming of aluminium alloy foils

Single-Point Incremental Forming (SPIF) is a flexible process for manufacturing sheet metal parts that is well adapted and profitable for prototypes or small batch production. Compared to traditional sheet forming technologies, this relatively slow process can be used in different applications in the automotive and aircraft industries; architecture engineering; and medical aid manufacture. In this article, the indirectly obtained axial forming force on the SPIF of variable wall angle geometry is studied using different process parameters. The estimation of the forces on AlMn1Mg1 sheets with an initial thickness of 0.22 mm is performed by continuous monitoring of servomotor currents. The deformation states of the formed parts were analysed using the ARGUS optical strain measurement system of GOM, while the roughness measurements were carried out by a Mitutoyo system. Some initial finite element analysis simulations and a crack monitoring method together with an interaction plot of forming speed, incremental depth, tool diameter, and lubrication were also reported.

Vibration levels of stacked automotive engine rack in truck shipments as a function of vehicle speed and road condition

In the past three decades, there has been a tremendous global shift in the use of returnable or reusable packaging in the automotive industry. This article focuses on the physical vibration forces that occur in a very important type of package system designed for engines and transmissions, namely the steel racks that have vertical posts on the four vertical edges that allow higher return ratios when empty. Engines and transmissions require zero damage acceptance levels today, as they are mated at the end of the assembly process, and they need to function 100 % of the time as the vehicle rolls off the finish line. They also are the most expensive components of the vehicle. This study was conducted to investigate the vibration environment of the stacked engine rack during truck transportation with various truck speeds, road conditions, and other road characteristics, such as speed bumps and railway crossings. Triaxial acceleration data were collected both on the truck floor as well as on the stacked racks themselves to determine the differences of vibration levels from truck floor to the stacked rack where vibration intensity increased. This study found that there were significant vibration severities in the stacked racks in all three orientations.

Sustainability reporting practices of agricultural and forestry companies in Hungary: a content analysis

To demonstrate the sustainability of companies, some companies have already produced sustainability reports, most of which have been published on their websites, while others have only produced and made public the reports and certifications required by law. In the European Union, legislation as of 2014 required the preparation of non-financial reports for publicly relevant entities, companies and parent companies of large groups of companies considered to be entities and having an average number of employees of more than 500. However, in line with the European Green Deal and the Taxonomy Regulation, as of 2023, a new law has been introduced, which extends the sustainability reporting obligation to nonpublic large companies and public small and medium-sized enterprises. Agricultural enterprises should also be prepared for this reporting obligation. This study aims to examine the ESG indices of the sampled companies and seek a correlation between the quality of the information disclosed and the financial characteristics of the companies. The results show that while forestry companies pay more attention to the disclosure of this type of information, there is some under-disclosure in both sectors.

The use of biostimulant microalgae to influence the growth and development of ornamental plants

The article discusses the use of biostimulant microalgae, known for their bioactive compounds. Understanding the positive impacts of biostimulants is essential for future applications. Research conducted in the Department of Plant Sciences at the Széchenyi István University has revealed that algae produce plant hormones and possess beneficial properties that influence the water, soil and plant systems. The effects of microalgae on various ornamental plants are being studied with a focus on improving root and general plant development. The methodology involves testing different algae extracts in ornamental plants in controlled environments. Data collection includes measuring plant height, leaf and bud numbers, chlorophyll content and other plant parameters through laboratory and destructive tests. The results indicate positive changes in plant parameters after treatments with biostimulant microalgae. In conclusion, biostimulant microalgae offer a promising and eco-friendly alternative to synthetic chemicals in the cultivation of ornamental plants. Continued research and innovation in this field is crucial to realise the full potential of biostimulants in sustainable agriculture.

Thermodynamic Processes in Nanostructured Thermocoatings

In the 21st century, global climate change and the high level of fossil energy consumption have introduced changes affecting all sectors of the economy, including the building industry. This process has prompted EU members to create strict regulations in building energetics. It has become a serious task for architects to find more effective ways for thermal insulation. One of these options is the application of nanostructured materials. Among them nano-ceramic thermocoatings open a wide range of research fields, because complete agreement had not been already found about their insulating effect. In order to explore and describe the thermodynamic process inside nano-ceramic thermocoatings 6 series of heat transfer resistance experiments were performed in 2014-2018. Several building structure configurations with 12 different orders of layers were tested with a standard heat flow meter. On basis of these results it could be concluded that in case of nano-structured thermocoatings convective heat transfer coefficient might be taken account in different way than in case of traditional macro-structured thermal insulation materials. Based on research results, the limits of its applicability can also be concluded. It has also been found that the insulating effect of nanostructured thermocoatings depends on the material characteristics of the insulated surface.

Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) for Ethiopian Educators: Evaluating MOOCs as a global development tool

This study examines how global educational technologies interact with local development priorities through the lens of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) in Ethiopian higher education teacher training. While digital learning platforms promise to democratize education globally, their effectiveness depends critically on alignment with local institutional contexts and development needs. Using survey data from 164 educators across 15 public universities, we investigate how institutional contexts shape technology integration patterns. Our analysis, integrating development theory with technology acceptance models, reveals three critical dimensions: the gap between awareness and participation reflects broader implementation challenges; previous experiences with development initiatives significantly influence adoption patterns; and state support proves crucial for enabling participation. While MOOCs offer potential for professional development in resource-constrained contexts, their effectiveness depends on complex interactions among infrastructure quality, institutional capacity, and material conditions. These findings contribute to the theoretical understanding of how global technological innovations interact with local institutional contexts to produce varied development outcomes, while offering practical insights for educational technology implementation in the Global South.

Electricity Market Dynamics and Regional Interdependence in the Face of Pandemic Restrictions and the Russian–Ukrainian Conflict

Electricity constitutes a significant part of the consumption basket of European households and companies. Since energy products are essential components of almost all products and services, any change in energy prices directly impacts the general price level of those products and services. Therefore, this study aims to conduct a comprehensive analysis of power exchange data between 2019 and 2022. For the analysis, we examined the data of 15 countries. In the research, we compared electricity prices in European power exchanges using the Jaccard similarity index and the overlap coefficient, using the DAM hourly prices between 1 January 2019 and 31 December 2022. We transformed the time series into networks using the visibility graph procedure and compared the networks of the studied countries using the two comparison methods with the degree distribution functions. Our aim is to examine how the market anomalies caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russian–Ukrainian conflict affect European electricity markets and how quickly the repercussions spread across the studied countries’ exchanges, and whether they show persistent or anti-persistent characteristics. The results support that similar market effects significantly influence the pattern of price changes among the countries. The methods forming the basis of the research can provide significant assistance in analyzing market trends and contribute to a better understanding of market processes.

Evaluation of fair-faced concrete surfaces using digital image processing

In modem architecture concrete is increasingly used as a design feature as well as for its mechanical properties. Therefore, today’s concrete architecture is characterized by various forms, textures and high surface quality. The exact determination of the surface quality requirements is crucial for being able to substantiate any deficiencies of the completed surface if necessary. According to the German, Austrian and Hungarian standards there are four concrete classes distinguished based on several aspects, such as porosity, discoloration, texture, etc. However, the standardized assessment methodologies for fair-faced concrete surfaces are mainly based on manual methods and several aspects can be evaluated only sub-jectively. The goal of the present study is to propose an objective method for the evaluation of the surface void ratio using photogrammetry and digital image processing techniques. The goal of the whole research is to develop an effective assessment method - taking all aspects into account - with which the overall evaluation and classification of the surfaces can be done automatically from one sampling. This method will lead to a quantitative, objective and therefore more reliable evaluation of the surface-quality of fair-faced concrete elements.
