Migration has become a phenomenon that has risen in recent decades. The durable effects of the pandemic are hardly assessable, but the tendency is expected to continue. Diverse workplaces prompt us to address cultural differences. This work thus aims to analyse the various manifestations, interpretations and reactions of three theories associated with conflict management. Data was collected using in-depth interviews with open-ended questions and analysed by grounded theory methodology. As a result, the different conflict management strategies, related emotions, reasons and interpretations were categorised. Besides the potential outcomes, the authors also revealed relevant contextual factors; however, their weights varied across cultures. They separated several conflict management and understanding mechanisms and typified the categories that emerged. Beyond the traditional west-east opposition, the authors received a highly complex picture. Interviewees from the Middle East, Mediterranean region, Africa and Eastern-Europe possessed distinctive attitudes, but the most straightforward difference was identifiable between the Far-Eastern and the Anglo-Saxon cultures.

Assessing the impact of positive pressure ventilation on the building fire - A case study

Closed-space fires often occur in Hungary, so it is necessary to examine the effects of fires on building structures, taking into account Hungarian architectural features. Fires inside the buildings are characterized by intense heat development and smoke generation that can cause permanent damage to the building structures. Heat and smoke extraction during fire extinguishing is based usually on natural ventilation. Not only being a non-effective process also makes it more difficult to accomplish firefighting tasks. Experiments in this research have been conducted with mobile positive pressure ventilation (PPV) in order to increase the efficiency of the firefighting process and to reduce the adverse effects of fires. The tests have been carried out in unused buildings, providing real conditions. Practical application has been examined in order to reduce the harmful effects of closed-space fires and to provide guidance for professional use. This research based on observations and experiments contributes to enhancing fire safety.

The main aim of the paper is to introduce a novel method - based on fuzzy control and linear parameter varying (LPV) system representation transformable into HOSVD based Canonical form - for modeling deformation processes with respect to the distribution of the absorbed kinetic energy. Modeling such kind of processes requires many uncertain input parameters. Using the proposed concept we are able to handle them and keep the complexity of the models low by using higher order singular value decomposition (HOSVD) technique.

Assessment of genetic diversity and phylogenetic relationship of Limousin herds in Hungary using microsatellite markers

Objective: This study was conducted to investigate basic information on genetic structure and characteristics of Limousin population in Hungary. Obtained results will be taken into consideration when adopting the new breeding strategy by the Association of Hungarian Limousin and Blonde d'Aquitaine Breeders (AHLBB). Methods: Genetic diversity and phylogenetic relationship of 3,443 Limousin cattle from 16 different herds were investigated by performing genotyping using 18 microsatellite markers. Amplified DNA was genotyped using an automated genetic analyzer. Results: Mean of effective alleles (ne) of the populations was 3.77. Population C had the lowest number of effective alleles (3.01) and the lowest inbreeding coefficient (FIS) value (-0.15). Principal component analysis of estimated genetic distance (FST) values (p<0.000) revealed two herds (C and E) distinct from the majority of other Limousin herds. The pairwise FST values of population C compared to the others (0.066 to 0.120) fell into the range of moderate genetic distance: 0.050 to 0.150, while population E displayed also moderate genetic distance (FST values in range 0.052 to 0.064) but only to six populations (G, H, J, L, N, and P). FST(C-E) was 0.148, all other pairs -excluding C and E herds- displayed low genetic distance (FST<0.049). Population D, F, I, J, K, L, N, O, and P carried private alleles, which alleles belonged to 1.1% of the individuals. Most probable number of clusters (K) were 2 and 7 determined by Structure and BAPS software. Conclusion: This study showed useful genetic diversity and phylogenetic relationship data that can be utilized for the development of a new breeding strategy by AHLBB. The results presented could also contribute to the proper selection of animals for further whole genome scan studies of Limousins.

Recent studies on thermodynamic processes in nano-ceramic thermal insulation coatings

Among nanotechnology-based thermal insulation materials thermodynamic performance of nano-ceramic coatings generates intensive discussions. Complete agreement has not been found yet about the mechanism of their insulating effect. In the Laboratory of Building Materials and Building Physics at Széchenyi István University (Győr, Hungary) heat transfer resistance experiments have been performed in order to describe thermodynamic processes inside nano-ceramic coatings. Previous studies finding after new measurements conducted in 2016-2017 also supported the former assumption that in case of nano-ceramic coatings convective heat transfer coefficient might be taken into account in a different way. Results also showed that thermal insulating effect of nano-ceramic coatings could be caused by a relatively high surface heat transfer resistance.

This study examines the development projects of the Modern Cities Program related to the city of Gyor, from several aspects. In the framework of the large-scale urban development program announced in 2015, the 23 Hungarian cities with county rights may benefit from its HUF 3,400 billion central budget. In the coming years, approximately HUF 120-130 billion development resources will be available to the city of Gyor. Since Gyor would be able to provide the financial resources of the development package in about 10 years from its own budget, the program is a significant additional source for the city. The development projects of the Modern Cities Program in Gyor are well suited to the city's strategic directions, serving the development of the city's transport systems, the strengthening of the university's research and development activities and the further development of the natural and built heritage of the city.

Impact of using colored pigments on rigid concrete pavements

Concrete is one of the leading construction materials known for its strength and durability. However, it is an aesthetically unfriendly and somewhat boring material due to its dull gray color that should be covered or painted. Recently, there has been a growing use of colored concrete materials by adding colored pigments to the mixture. In the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI), there is a need to incorporate full-depth colored concrete into streets and roadways projects, especially for road ramps, cycle lanes, pedestrian crosswalks, sidewalks, and car parking spaces for disabled people, etc. This research aims to manufacture colored concrete pavement that might provide more durable, longer-lasting colored concrete features by adding a suitable pigment amount. This study examined concrete's compressive and tensile strength for M2O grade concrete colored with (0, 3, 5, 7, and 9) percent of red iron oxide pigment. The dosage of added coloring is referenced to the weight of the binder (cement). Test results show that adding color pigment to the concrete does not significantly affect its mechanical properties, and the colored concrete can be used for structural purposes. It is concluded that the optimal dosages of color pigment for the concrete are 5% in the fresh state and 7% in the hardened condition. Finally, using colored concrete in road facilities planning will be a safe, convenient, and economical way to control traffic conflicts.

Fatigue damage analysis of pavements under autonomous truck tire passes

Two different tire configurations consisting of a dual tire and a super single wide tire having different range and distribution of contact pressures have been analyzed. Along with the effect of speed on development of pavement damage at speeds of 5, 50 and 80 km h-1 under zero and uniform wander modes. Results show that at super slow speeds of 5 km h-1, at dual wheel moving at zero wander mode, decrease in fatigue life of the pavement is 3.5 years, which is 1.45 times more than the dual wheel moving at uniform wander and 3.4 times more than wide tire moving at uniform wander mode. The difference between fatigue damage at different lateral wander modes is prominent at speeds greater than 50 km h-1. A wide tire performs better than the dual wheel under zero wander configurations.

As demonstrated by the misidentification of Brandon Mayfield in the Madrid Train Bombing case, and a growing body of scientific research, it is clear that forensic examiners are prime candidates for cognitive biases. In this article, we overview latent fingerprint identification and methodology including the utilization of Automated Fingerprint Identification Systems. Then we consider recent empirical work on cognitive biases that can taint fingerprint examiners' conclusions. Finally we provide methods that would minimize such impacts in latent fingerprint identification.
