Valorization of Waste Wood Flour and Rice Husk in Poly(Lactic Acid)-Based Hybrid Biocomposites

This study explores the possibility of developing a new class of hybrid particulate-filled biocomposites using wood flour and rice husk wastes as environmentally friendly additives to poly(lactic acid) (PLA) as matrix material. Samples were prepared with fillers of different concentrations (0, 2.5, 5, 7.5 and 10 wt %), while the ratio of wood flour and rice husk was fixed at 1:1 in all cases. The preparation of biocomposites was performed through extrusion using a twin-screw extruder. Subsequently, they were formed into specimens by injection molding. Mechanical, thermal, thermomechanical, and morphological properties were examined. The addition of natural waste particles resulted in a remarkable improvement both in tensile and flexural modulus; however at a cost of impact strength and tensile strength. Meanwhile, flexural stress at conventional strain values were barely affected by the presence of wood flour and rice husk. The SEM images confirmed that there is a limited interfacial adhesion between the components, which supports the results obtained during mechanical tests. Both the differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and the dynamic mechanical analysis indicated that the glass transition temperature of PLA was not affected by the incorporation of filler particles; however, the crystalline structure was gradually altered with increasing filler loading according to the DSC. Additionally, the particles were observed acting as nucleating agents, thereby increasing the overall crystallinity of PLA.

In the face of land degradation and environmental constraints, it is imperative to have an adaptive financial geography structure and a land resource utilization system that supports corporate innovation. This study constructs a refined financial geographic accessibility measurement index. By integrating multi-source spatio-temporal big data, the study breaks through the static limitation of traditional statistical data. It accurately analyzes the spatial synergistic effect between the spatial distribution of financial institutions and land use planning. Land use data, such as spatial development rate and spatial interest points, provide high-precision spatial evidence for revealing the mechanism of financial geographic accessibility affecting corporate innovation. Further, from the environmental sustainability perspective, this paper studies the moderating effect of environmental constraints on corporate innovation. Financial geographic accessibility can improve corporate innovation by reducing financing costs, accelerating knowledge spillover, realizing intermediate input sharing, improving labor matching, and giving play to location advantages. Notably, this facilitation effect performs better in cities with high energy consumption and carbon emissions. Heterogeneity analysis shows that proximity to the city center, low industrial maturity, government subsidies, soes, and large-scale corporations significantly amplify the innovation benefits of financial geographic accessibility. This study combines remote sensing data with spatial big data to provide a new methodological framework for analyzing land use and degradation.

Complex Framework for Condition Assessment of Residential Buildings

In the big cities of Europe large-scale construction of apartment buildings took place at the end of the 19th and at the beginning of the 20th century. In the process, buildings were created based on unique plans, but very similar to each other, containing similar technological solutions and built from similar building materials. Over the past 100 years, some of the buildings have been continuously maintained, while the condition of other buildings has deteriorated significantly. The renovation of these buildings has now become necessary and in many cases, unavoidable. In the current economic and energy situation, it is important that maintenance or conversion is carried out in a sustainable manner to the necessary extent. The method and extent of the interventions can be provided in a uniform manner with help of a computer system. We have developed a condition assessment and decision support model and algorithm that can be used for this purpose. We call it Complex Building’s Decision Support System based on Fuzzy Signatures (CBDF system). We use fuzzy signature-based model to handle uncertainties, inaccuracies and possibly missing data that occur during the condition assessment. The presented decision model prepares the status assessment based on 4 main components (project info, knowledge base, preparatory work process, fuzzy system). After defining the objectives (e.g., general condition assessment, evaluation from the perspective of accident prevention, examination of the possibility of roof installation), the system requests the necessary data and generates the fuzzy signature required for the condition assessment of the given building. Based on the input data for the specific project and the knowledge base, the decision model searches for failures and anomalies in the building based on the preparatory work process, manages the existing uncertainties and inaccuracies, and determines the load bearing surplus of the examined load bearing structures. Using the existing information and conclusions, based on various fuzzy set-based descriptors and aggregation operators, the condition assessment is prepared, and then, if necessary, the intervention proposal as well. The final goal of the decision model is to put a tool in the hands of experts examining the condition of buildings, which can be used to prepare uniform and objective assessments (also suitable for ranking) and to reduce error in condition assessment.

Synergistic Effects of CuO and ZnO Nanoadditives on Friction and Wear in Automotive Base Oil †

Efficient lubrication lowers friction, wear, and energy losses in automotive drivetrain components. Advanced lubricants are key to sustainable transportation performance, durability, and efficiency. This study analyzes the tribological performance of Group III base oil with CuO and ZnO nanoadditive mixtures. These additives enhance the performance of Group III base oils, making them highly relevant for automotive lubricant applications. An Optimol SRV5 tribometer performed ball-on-disk sliding contact tests with 100Cr6 steel specimens subjected to a 50 N force and a temperature of 100 °C. The test settings are designed to mimic the boundary and mixed lubrication regimes commonly seen in the automobile industry. During the tests, the effect of nanoparticles on friction was measured. Microscopic wear analysis was performed on the worn specimens. The results demonstrate that adding 0.3 wt% CuO nanoparticles to Group III base oil achieves a 19% reduction in dynamic friction and a 47% decrease in disk wear volume compared to additive-free oil. Notably, a 2:1 CuO-to-ZnO mixture produced synergy, delivering up to a 27% friction reduction and a 54% decrease in disk wear. The results show the synergistic effect of CuO and ZnO in reducing friction and wear on specimens. This study highlights the potential of nanoparticles for lubricant development and automotive applications.

Coherent manipulation of birefringent superluminal bright solitons in a chiral medium

The superluminal solitonic propagation behavior of left- and right-circularly polarized (LCP/RCP) light beams is investigated in a chiral medium. RCP and LCP beam absorption exhibits super-Gaussian-type peak behavior with spatial coordinate fluctuation around the origin. The RCP beam’s subluminal phase velocity is vp(+)=c/nr(+)[jls-end-space/], and its refractive index is 5.47. On the other hand, the LCP beam’s superluminal phase velocity is vp(−)=c/nr(−)[jls-end-space/], and its refractive index is −3.65. Both LCP and RCP beams propagate at superluminal group speeds in the medium. The RCP and LCP beams’ maximum group index values are determined to be Ng(+)=−33522 and Ng(−)=−1305[jls-end-space/]. The group velocities that correspond to this are vg(+)=−c/33522 and vg(−)=−c/1305[jls-end-space/]. With the position of greater nonlinearity and periodicity changing with forward time flowing, the RCP and LCP pulses E(r,t)(+) and E(r,t)(−) exhibit superluminal-peaked soliton characteristics. With increasing forward time, the LCP pulse intensity shifts to a positive position while the RCP pulse intensity shifts to a negative position. The bright superluminal solitonic intensities are modified and controlled. For both polarized light beams in a chiral atomic medium. The obtained results may be useful for soliton radar technology and time cloak equipment to reduce information hacking from outside hackers.

To produce xylo-oligosaccharides (XOS) from the agriculture waste, which included, green coconut and vegetable cocktail. The two pretreatment – hydrogen peroxide-acetic acid (HP-AC) and sodium hypochlorite-sodium hydroxide (SH-SH) – were used for this study. The optimal conditions for the pretreatment were 80 °C, 4.0 % NaClO, and 2 h, followed by 0.08 % NaOH, 55 °C, and 1 h. Further enzymatic hydrolysis of green coconut (GC) and vegetable cocktail (VC) were performed and found in case of GC, the best outcomes were observed. Different types of XOS were obtained from the treated biomass whereas a single type of XOS xylo-pentose was obtained in high quantity (96.44 % and 93.09 % from CG and VC respectively) with the production of other XOS < 2 %. This study presents a reasonably secure and economical method for turning secondary crop residue into XOS and fermentable sugars.

Automated Driving functions have widely spread in last years, not only in research, but also in the automotive industry. Many car manufacturers and their suppliers have funded different software systems to fulfill the driving requirements. By the growing number of innovations, the rapidly changing technology and newer players in the automotive industry requires academy and industry to collaborate on their automated software developments. To do so, a common research and development framework is needed which inherently provides smooth transition of new solutions from one world to the other. Even though there are many open source research framework for rapid prototyping of automated driving functions, these solutions are often concentrated on low speed maneuvering, especially for the higher automation levels, such as robo-taxis. However, major automotive companies require developments of up to SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) level 2 and 3. Therefore, a new prototypical, open source software architecture1 is proposed, that uses well-known tools and technology as basis, such as Robot Operating System or Autoware Universe, but also being closely in compliance with industrial architecture aspects. It is proven that the proposed architecture, along with its abstraction layers and interfaces provide modularity, and interchangeability of basic components, while the hardware and vehicle dependencies are well separated from the application software layer. Obsessive passion, opportunity recognition, and entrepreneurial performance: The dual moderating effect of the fear of failure

A strong inclination toward an important or preferred activity is a critical factor that drives individual to engage in corresponding activities. This study focuses on how entrepreneurs, influenced by obsessive passion, are motivated to put great effort into taking advantage of business opportunities and accomplishing entrepreneurial goals. By using SPSS and AMOS tools to analyze the multi-source questionnaire of 208 entrepreneurs, the research results show that obsessive passion can promote entrepreneurial performance and opportunity recognition plays a mediating role. In addition, endogenous and exogenous fear of failure play different moderating roles in the effect of obsessive passion on opportunity recognition. The research conclusion deepens the theoretical understanding of entrepreneurial passion, opportunity recognition, and fear of failure at a more subtle level.
