Purpose. Investigate and establish the relationship between track geometry measurements and weather conditions to determine the parameters that influence the lifetime of railway tracks' superstructure system. The study of ballasted beds of railway tracks is very important for operation and maintenance in case of main lines, industrial sidings and mine transport. Methodology. Determination of the annual load of the selected section based on the regulations. Compari of the track parameters measurements made by TrackScan 4.01 instrument in different seasons and temperatures. Among the parameters measured by the instrument, the track gauge, alignment, longitudinal level, and superelevation parameters are considered and analyzed in this article.Since the main lines' traffic are permanently loaded with passenger and freight transport and the industrial sidings and mine tracks are used in the production process, the examinations can only be done on tramway tracks during the standstills at night. The results of these measurement on tramway tracks can help to understand the identify of railway tracks' lifetime and can be used in mainlines, industrial and mining railway tracks. Findings. The change in the average values of selected track geometrical parameters is analyzed, considering the typical weather conditions. Based on the measurement and results, there is an evident connection between the evaluated results of track geometry measurements and the change in weather conditions. Originality. Finding the relationship between changes in track geometry values and weather conditions on the basis of an evaluation of track geometry measurements taken on average every third month. Practical value. The results can then be used as input data for determining the service life of the track superstructure in the case of tramways, mainlines, industrial and mining railway tracks.

Are Corporate Energy Saving Measures Effective? - Lessons from a Small Sample Analysis in Hungary

The European Union has set a climate neutrality goal that requires all member countries to reduce their energy consumption. In 2021, businesses accounted for approximately one-quarter of the EU's energy consumption therefore, they play a significant role in its reduction. Hungary has taken steps to encourage companies to improve their energy efficiency, mandating large consumer companies to perform annual energy audits and publish their results. Our research focuses on the results of energy efficiency measures implemented by these large consumer companies. Based on online energy reports that were readily available, we analysed the energy performance of companies with more than 1,000 employees between 2017 and 2021. Data narrowing resulted in a sample of 24 companies that are not considered representative, but their analysis indicates that low-cost employee awareness-raising and lighting upgrades were the most used efficiency measures. Results show that energy savings resulting from lighting modernisation ranged from 11 to 844 GJ per year, while savings from cooling/heating modernisation ranged from 4,7 to 47,000 GJ per year. By modernising building systems such as ventilation, the studied companies achieved energy savings ranging from 10 to 403 GJ. The annual energy savings achieved through production modernisation ranged from 972 to 510,435 GJ. Due to the inconsistencies in the data, our analysis also highlighted the importance of stricter monitoring and establishing a database of energy consumption data from companies performing annual audits.

Examining the Evolution of Technological Conditions from the Point of View of the Application of Blockchain-based Data Management in Food Supply Chains

A critical point in making food chains more sustainable is to find different ways to increase efficiency. These can be aimed at shortening the chain, using more sustainable raw materials, etc. Blockchain technology offers the potential for reliable data management and simplified administration and is, therefore, definitely a tool to consider if the aim is to enhance sustainability in food chains. The question arises as to whether food chain operators have the technology and knowledge needed for widespread uptake. The aim of this research was to investigate whether the technical background and knowledge for the use of cryptocurrencies can be compared with the technological background for monitoring the food chain with blockchain-based data management. If so, since data on the uptake of cryptocurrencies is already available, this analysis will provide information on the realistic scope of such an application. The research showed that there is no significant difference in the technology required for the two applications. The data clearly shows that, overall, there are 4.6 billion people who have the tools to use them. In addition, there is evidence that cryptocurrency penetration is weakly correlated with GDP or banking system development. In other words, if other conditions are right (e.g., the interest of producers), the availability of tools and knowledge should not be a barrier to uptake. Neither is the economic performance of a country or the development of its banking system. It is therefore concluded that, based on the aspects examined in this research, blockchain technology can be applied on a large scale worldwide.

In the past seven decades, especially since the Global Financial Crisis, the financial system’s architecture has changed significantly around the world. New financial market entrants, such as fintech start-up companies, offer financial products and services more efficiently than established financial institutions (especially banks and insurance companies), bypassing the regulatory requirements established intermediaries must comply with. Despite the heterogeneity in the fintech concept, we use this term to consider innovations in financial products and services based on emerging information and communication technologies (i.e., information technology and mobile connectivity) as solutions that are changing the financial structure worldwide. Although the share of new participants in the financial system is rather small compared to the incumbents, fintech innovations are continuously advancing (e.g., crowdfunding, marketplace lending, cryptocurrencies, copy trading, robo-advice, insurtech, etc.), and their share is growing fast. This paper provides an overview of the fintech market and its impact (actual and potential) on the financial system’s architecture based on a comprehensive review of the theoretical and empirical literature..

In the premium vehicle category, real-time online internet connection has become a standard in recent years. This trend is likely to spread completely in the automotive industry in the coming years. This fact offers a lot of new options in the field of vehicle maintenance (and predictive maintenance). Another possible use case may be remote diagnostics of in-use vehicles on the market, analysis of their online data and thereby an extension of the product development process after SOP. An additional new option may be to automatically collect, evaluate and generate of onboard diagnostics data to report to different authorities. E.g. OBFCM (onboard fuel consumption) or IUMPR j3 (in use monitoring performance ratio) field reports. In vehicle production, during the test drive, it could be possible to read and log of measurement data of the finished vehicle’s control units online Another application may be to test vehicles online during the production process e.g. to read of DTC’s (diagnostics trouble codes) during technical tests or to monitor of SoC (state of charge) of battery online while moving vehicles within the factory.

In this study, state estimators are designed and compared for surface-mounted permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM) drives. The state-space representations used for estimator design are the infinite inertia model, the full model including the equation of motion, and an augmented description extended by the permanent magnet (PM) flux linkage as an additional state variable. By using the latter model, the estimators are less sensitive to the PM flux linkage mismatches due to the online identification of this parameter. For each nonlinear models, observability analyses are presented with and without position measurement. Based on all six models, state estimators are implemented using unscented Kalman filter (UKF) algorithm, and the estimation performances are compared by simulations.

The primary goal of the study is to explore the satisfaction of Hungarian people with food delivery services, which gained popularity during the COVID-19 pandemic, in the post-pandemic period. The publication's main research questions are: to what extent are customers satisfied with the speed of food delivery and the temperature of the delivered meals? The empirical research also analyses whether the speed of delivery influences the customers' attitudes towards their connection with the catering establishments. The survey was carried out between April 10, 2022, and June 30, 2022. The sample is non-representative (N=452), with respondents being selected arbitrarily in Győr-Moson-Sopron County. Data were processed using the IBM SPSS 25.0 statistical software package. During the primary research the authors examined the current food ordering habits of the participants using statistical (descriptive, correlational) analyses. The aim of this study is to identify and evaluate the key factors that influence customer satisfaction and decision-making in the food delivery industry, providing actionable insights for service providers. The topic of the present study is the examination of the customer satisfaction and decision-making of the Hungarian population focusing on the food delivery industry. A comprehensive literature review was conducted to establish a theoretical framework and formulate hypotheses. A survey-based methodology was employed to collect data from consumers and the collected data were analysed using statistical techniques to test the formulated hypotheses and determine the relationships between the identified factors and customer satisfaction. Results and discussions: presentation and analysis of the obtained results. The study concludes that delivery speed, food temperature, price-value ratio, quality, variety and online presence are crucial factors in the customer satisfaction and decision-making in the food delivery industry. Addressing these aspects can help service providers enhance their competitiveness and improve the overall customer experience.

Sustainable levee construction along the Danube River

Nowadays' changing weather conditions and the resulting increasing flood levels make flood protection improvement essential. In Hungary, in the Szigetköz floodplain area, a complex water resources management unit of the Upper part of the Danube River, the rehabilitation of the water levels, and the setting back of the settled low and middle water levels had become necessary. It has been achieved by relocating the estuary of the Mosoni-Danube River and constructing a complex water control structure. A new ~1.5 km long levee connects to the structure. Due to a large volume of fine-grained blanket material on the site, the possibility arose to build a section of the levee using the blanket material without applying a cut-off wall to prevent water flow through the levee. The geotechnical parameters of the available local material were based on a complex site investigation program. According to the results of the field and laboratory tests, the blanket layer was suitable as fill material and could be compacted to the required 90% degree of compaction using standard machinery and procedures. Plaxis 2D software using fully coupled flow-deformation analysis, imitating the previously registered flood waves, modeled seepage and stability behaviour to evaluate the ultimate limit states of the levee constructed from the blanket material. The analysis proved the adequacy of the blanket material, avoiding the necessity for a barrier within the embankment. The use of local blanket material as fill eliminated the need to excavate and transport additional material, reducing environmental impact, shortening construction time, and saving costs on the project.
