Description:

A new oribatid mite subgenus of the genus Amboroppia (Oribatida, Oppiidae) –A. (Quintanoppia) subgen. n., with A. (Quintanoppia) defectofossulata sp. n. as type species – is described, based on material collected from Mexico. It can be distinguished from the nominate subgenus by the absence concavities between rostrum and transcostula and behind transcostula, and the presence of strong teeth on lateral sides of prodorsum. A revised generic diagnosis, identification key and data on distribution and habitats of representatives of Amboroppia are presented.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become a ubiquitous technology that has the potential to revolutionize many industries. However, AI requires access to vast amounts of data to achieve its full potential. By understanding these data sources and the best practices for working with them, we can unlock the full potential of AI and create groundbreaking solutions that benefit society as a whole. Data sources can be utilized to train AI algorithms, including structured and unstructured data, but finding relevant datasets is challenging. The main problem is the international sources. Most of the datasets are available only in English or other common languages. However these are good sources, but translating them is expensive and time-consuming. This paper shows how to generate own datasets from open-source data with translation.

Measurement of Pedestrian Targets in Terms of Radar Cross Section

In terms of vehicle radars, the most important properties of targets are speed, distance, and radar cross section. Based on the Radar Cross Section (RCS), the type of the object can be identified with a good approximation: pedestrian, bicycle, car, truck even in extreme weather conditions. A radar cross section measures the reflectivity of an object and its numerical value is equal to the area of the cross section of a conducting sphere with the same reflectivity. Its value depends on the material and shape of the object, the angle of illumination, and the ratio between the wavelength and the size of the object. The article presents a measurement system for radar targets, the main component of which is an automotive radar. In addition, the evaluation software for the measurement system, which was created in the MATLAB / SIMULINK environment, will be presented. The measurement system was used to perform various measurements on the ZalaZONE Automotive Proving Ground (Zalaegerszeg, HUNGARY), the evaluation of which will be presented. The purpose of the measurements is to collect information about the radar cross-section values of pedestrians at different distances from the vehicle and dummies simulating them. A comparison of different pedestrians is presented. After that, we will show how even if a puppet is formally similar to a pedestrian, the RCS can show a different value.

Technoeconomic Assessment of Recycling Routes for Chemicals: A Case Study of n-Hexane

The circular economy has become one of the most popular topics in worldwide sustainability research. The imperious necessity of reducing resource consumption and decreasing waste generation has led to reincorporating materials at the end-of-life (EoL) stage into the productive chain. Nonetheless, the presence of hazardous substances in the EoL stage materials poses a significant challenge for the transition toward the production model. The adequate transformation of these materials into feedstocks requires their correct allocation into recovery plants and final destinations. Such an allocation can be decided by resorting to optimisation by generating the best alternative networks, from where the stakeholders may decide the most suitable recycling scheme. In this work, a graph-theoretic approach is introduced to identify the best alternatives to reincorporate industrial EoL chemicals into the productive chain. This contribution presents the initial approach to this problem, demonstrated through a case study considering the data reported on the publicaccess release inventory data for n-hexane. Different recycling routes are proposed for the case study by optimising the total treatment cost, and their advantages and disadvantages are discussed; moreover, their efficiency concerning the circular economy is measured by comparing the amount of recovered chemicals. By generating plausible recycling alternatives, this work contributes positively to analysing potential alternatives for circular economy and resource conservation in industry.

Consumer Acceptance and Rejection Regarding Sustainable Wine Packaging

The wine sector is facing a major challenge in wine packaging. The environmental impact of packaging, one of the most CO2-emitting aspects of the wine industry, needs to be addressed. In this study, we investigate how open Hungarian consumers are to buying wine in non-traditional packaging. We showed images of several alternative packaging options to a sample of domestic consumers: 1) a domestic wine bag-in-box and 2) a pouch package and (3 & 4) their internationalized equivalents. We then presented participants with a questionnaire. The questionnaire asked about the following topics: Traditionality, Familiarity, Purchase Intention (PI), Product Appeal, Taste Expectations, and Uniqueness, with participant demographic questions also included. Cluster analysis was conducted for both Hungarian packaging (HP) and International wine packaging (IP) options, suggesting that different consumer groups have different attitudes toward alternative wine packaging options. Overall, consumers are slightly more accepting of Hungarian-packaged wines on average, but at the cluster level, if only those consumers most likely to accept (and purchase) alternative packaging are considered, acceptance is greater for IP wines. Generation Z wine consumers, who are self-reported to be knowledgeable about wine and have above-average incomes, were the most likely to accept international and Hungarian alternative packaging options. The innovators’ cluster group demonstrated the highest intention/willingness to purchase wine in alternative packaging of either the Hungarian or international sort. The mean value of Innovator IP is 4.84 for bag-in-box and 5.01 for pouches, making this group more accepting of pouches than bag-in-box packaging—an inversion of the preference of most other groups investigated. For both bag-in-box and pouch, the mean for the Innovator HP cluster is 5.17. For both Hungarian and international packaging options, it is clear that acceptance is lower for pouches (PI: 3.27; 3.47) than for bag-in-box (PI: 3.62; 3.88). We offer our results to decision-makers so that they may better understand the preferences of the Hungarian wine market and work to improve acceptance of non-traditional packaging options through consumer education and familiarization.

NVH simulation and experimental methods are getting more and more important because of the increased customer needs for reliability and comfort. In order to obtain appropriate NVH simulation results accurate material properties have to be provided as input parameters. In case of the dynamic mechanical property determination of acoustic viscoelastic foams the results may vary greatly depending on the measurement settings and the quality of the measurement. This study evaluates the effect of the preload determination process on dynamic mechanical properties and the repeatability of the dynamic compression tests. Finally, conclusions are drawn and suggestions are made for the settings.

Today the automotive industry is making great strides toward driverless driving. Vehicle manufacturers, as well as well-known development service providers, have already developed a large number of concepts and design studies for fully automatic vehicles. In the future, there will be no more limits to driverless driving. However, a fully autonomous vehicle must also protect its occupants in the event of an accident. The driver becomes a passenger, no longer having to take part in driving the vehicle. The big challenge for the future is how the seat that can be rotated in the front row of a car will have an impact on the future passenger safety system. The aim of the research is to build a simulation model that will allow us to study the area. It is absolutely necessary to use a real test to validate the simulations. To investigate the influence of swivel seats on the restraint systems, the seat positions to be analyzed must first be narrowed down. The area examined extends from 0˚, which corresponds to the current driver’s seat position, to the 180˚ position, in which the driver’s view is directed towards the rear. In order to limit the number of variants that are examined, the angle steps are limited. As part of this research, the 0˚, 30˚, 60˚, 90˚, 135˚, 180˚ positions of the seat are examined in more detail and examinations are carried out on the basis of these variants.

Dynamic Viscosity Prediction of Blends of Paving Grade Bitumen with Reclaimed Bitumen

The recycling of reclaimed asphalt pavement is of significant economic and environmental benefits. In this case, however, the satisfactory performance of the final product needs scientific planning of the mixture and thorough quality control. Before its use, a number of tests must be performed to verify that the binder meets the relevant requirements and can be used in asphalt mixtures. The binder characteristics in the reclaimed asphalt pavement and the expected properties of the binder blend in the new asphalt mixture must be known. For its prediction and calculation, a European standard offers the calculation of the penetration or softening point of the binder blend in the mixture with reclaimed asphalt content. However, in some countries, the determination of paving grade bitumen types (categories) is based not on dynamic viscosity measured with DSR instrument, so other validated test and calculation methods are in force. A viscosity-based method has not yet been validated for paving grade bitumens standardized on a penetration basis, although this method is more advantageous in many aspects when monitoring daily production processes; it is much shorter and requires less material than measuring softening point or penetration. The article deals with the measurement of the dynamic viscosity of bitumen blends of asphalt mixtures made using reclaimed asphalts, determined with a dynamic shear rheometer at different frequencies (0.1–10.0 Hz sweep). Furthermore, the relationships between the different composition ratios of national paving grade bitumens classified on the bases of penetration level and bitumens from reclaimed asphalt pavement are examined.

Car Simulator Study for the Development of a Bring-Your-Own-Device (BYOD) Dashboard Concept

In-Vehicle Information Systems (IVIS) have evolved with the integration of advanced technologies like touchscreens, enhancing vehicle functionality and infotainment features. However, the development of sustainable and user-centric dashboard interfaces embracing the Bring-Your-Own-Device (BYOD) concept remains limited. This research aims to explore the usability, advantages, and disadvantages of the BYOD concept within the context of IVIS. Specifically, it investigated the control of the onboard air conditioning system and selected Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) functions. To accomplish this, a complex simulation environment using Unity, Blender, and C# was developed. Eye-tracking technology was utilized to record participants' gaze patterns and attention allocation during experimental tasks. Following the simulation, participants provided subjective usability assessments of the system through questionnaires. The integration of a mobile phone with a suitable user interface as part of the BYOD concept generally led to enhanced usability and reduced distraction. This study underscores the potential benefits of integrating the BYOD concept into IVIS, emphasizing improved usability, sustainability, and user-friendliness. These findings hold significance for advancing the design of user-centric, sustainable interfaces in automotive technology.
