Low speed operation of sensorless estimators for induction machines using extended, unscented and cubature kalman filter techniques

Description:

In this study, three feasible speed sensorless estimators of induction machines are presented by using extended, unscented and cubature Kalman filter algorithms. The estimators are based on an augmented non-linear state-space model of these machines, which describes the dynamics in stationary reference frame with six state variables. As an important part of the estimator design, an observability study is provided for the nonlinear model and an observability condition is formulated as well. The estimators are compared experimentally around zero stator frequency with respect to the speed estimation performance. However, the estimators are investigated only in open-loop and without external load disturbance.

Phylogenetic re-evaluation of previously identified Chlamydomonas (Chlorophyta, Chlamydomonadaceae) strains from The Mosonmagyaróvár Algal Culture Collection, Hungary, using molecular data

Systematic studies on 70 MACC isolates previously identified as ‘Chlamydomonas’, a unicellular flagellate, were carried out based on partial 18S rRNA. The aim of this study was to determine the phylogenetic affiliations of Chlamydomonas strains in the MACC collection. The study found that most of the strains were not Chlamydomonas. Nine clusters of phylogenetically similar taxa were identified. The previous determinations were completed with their new phylogenetic affiliations (partly due to changes in green algae classification). Molecular data revealed that 3 of the 70 strains are from Arenicolinia, 14 are members of the phylogroup Stephanosphaerinia, 11 are Oogamochlamydinia, 1 is Chloromonadinia, 19 are Reinhardtinia, 2 are Polytominia, 9 are Scenedesmaceae, 5 are Moewusinia, and 6 are Chlorella. Clades were established by 18S rRNA similarity and p-distances. This study reveals the need to revise established culture collections whose isolates are solely identified with morphology.

Linear fuzzy rule base interpolation using fuzzy geometry

Fuzzy Rule Interpolation (FRI) provides an interpretable decision in sparse fuzzy rule based system. The objective of this work is to establish a mathematical demonstration of the pattern of existing fuzzy rule base using fuzzy geometry. Though several authors contributed on fuzzy rule base interpolation but there is a need to generate closed mathematical form of interpolating pattern. The present work is an initiative to demonstrate the same. First part of this paper presents some spatial geometrical transformation of a fuzzy point. In the second part of this paper, a new FRI scheme is suggested using fuzzy geometry with above mentioned transformation. The proposed method operates in two different steps. In the first step, all the fuzzy rules are converted into fuzzy sets or mostly fuzzy points in higher dimension by using mathematical operator on the individual of antecedent and consequent parts. All rules or fuzzy points are then joined with a class of fuzzy line segments (FLS). Second step considers the identification of mathematical pattern of the interpolated piecewise linear fuzzy polynomial which is able to compute the desired conclusion of a given observation. The presented method not only associates the FRI technique to classical interpolation technique, but also promises to provide the geometrical visualization of the behaviour of fuzzy sets during the interpolation process.

Fabrication of waste bagasse fiber-reinforced epoxy composites: Study of physical, mechanical, and erosion properties

The aim of the research work is to study the physical, mechanical, and erosive wear properties of sugarcane bagasse fiber-reinforced epoxy composites. The physical (density, void content) and the mechanical (hardness, tensile strength, impact energy, flexural strength) properties of the composites were found to increase with the content of bagasse fiber. For erosive wear analysis, the experiments were carried out with the help of erosion test machine. To minimize the erosive wear rate, Taguchi technique is executed to explore the influence of five control factors including fiber content, impact velocity, impingement, stand-off distance, and erodent size at three levels. Using Taguchi (L27) orthogonal array, the optimal combination of control factors, which yielded minimum erosive wear rate, was statistically predicted and experimentally verified. The fiber content and impact velocity were the two most contributing control factors for the minimization of erosive wear rate. The important sequence of the parameters is fiber content > impact velocity > impingement angle > erodent size > stand-off distance. The optimal combination of control factors was obtained at 10 wt% of fiber content, 30 m/s of impact velocity, 30° of impingement angle, 85 mm of stand-off distance, and 250 μm of erodent size. Finally, composites worn surfaces were examined with scanning electron microscope to study the possible erosive wear mechanism. POLYM. Health professionals’ knowledge of probiotics: An international survey

The objective of this study was to survey health professionals to investigate their knowledge of probiotics. An online survey was conducted to gather data on the knowledge of health professionals. The online survey was distributed via email and social media platforms using snowball sampling. A total of 1066 health professionals (859; 80.6% female) from 30 countries responded to the survey. Most of the respondents evaluated their knowledge of probiotics as medium (36.4%) or good (36.2%). Only 8.9% of the respondents rated it as excellent. No statistical difference in knowledge was found between male and female health professionals. Over 80% of pharmacists, allied health professionals, medical doctors and dentists, and other health professionals knew the correct definition of probiotics as “live microorganisms that, when administered in adequate amounts, confer a health benefit on the host”, whereas three quarters of registered nurses and midwives and less than two thirds of psychologists identified the correct definition. Statistically, more female than male health professionals knew the correct definition of probiotics. The most frequently recognized species of bacteria containing probiotic strains were Lactobacillus acidophilus (92%), Bifidobacterium bifidum (82%), and Lactobacillus rhamnosus (62%). The opinions on when it is best to take probiotics were different (χ2 = 28.375; p < 0.001), with 90.2% of respondents identifying that probiotics have beneficial effects if taken during antibiotic therapy, 83.5% for diarrhea, 70.6% for constipation, 63.3% before traveling abroad, and 60.4% for treating allergies. Almost 79% of health professionals involved in this study have advised their patients to use probiotics and 57.5% of the respondents wanted to learn more about probiotics. All things considered, health professionals have a medium level of knowledge of probiotics, which could be improved by the implementation of targeted learning programs. As probiotics have many beneficial effects in a wide range of health areas, health professionals need to adopt the use of probiotics in clinical practice.

Fuzzy Hough transformation in aiding computer tomography based liver diagnosis

In the liver many types of roundish lesions can appear, as well as near the liver. Finding the contour of such objects can improve both the segmentation of the liver from its environment, and the segmentation of the lesions within the liver. However, classical Hough transform, which is one of the main methods for finding objects described by a predefined parameterized formula, usually fails to identify these object as they possess not perfectly round or elliptic contours. A fuzzification of the Hough transform is described and suggested for using in image preprocessing for liver diagnosis based on CT images in this paper. Fuzzifying the Hough transform improves the detection of roundish contours.

Propagation of Laser-Driven Electromagnetic Pulses in Laser Target Areas

During high intense laser target interaction a strong electromagnetic pulse (EMP) is generated which can potentially disturb the well performing of the experiment. The electromagnetic interference (EMI) due to the EMP not only affects devices present in the vacuum chamber but also in the target area where it may compromise the performance or operation of electronics and device controllers.In this work we report the measurements of EMP inside the laser target area at Centro de Laseres Pulsados (CLPU) during high intense laser-target interaction experiments. The experimental results show how the amplitude and spectrum of the EMP in the target area is different from the one inside the target chamber (TC). At last Finite element method (FEM) simulation results are shown and compared with experimental results.

The evolution of networking technologies is crucial in the 21st century. The greatest challenge for the Industry 4.0 is the spread and generalization of cyber physical production systems which cannot evolve without new networking technologies. One of these research areas is the wireless mesh networking which may offer an accurate, fast, adaptive, self-organizing, self-healing and inexpensive solution in communication. Wireless mesh networking involves some radio technologies, like Wi-Fi, ZigBee, Bluetooth, IQRF, etc. The most widespread and cost effective solution of the above mentioned ones is Bluetooth. Luckily, Bluetooth SIG adopted the first mesh core stack into Bluetooth 5 protocol in 2017, although a newer Bluetooth 5.1 came out since then. In this paper, the development of Bluetooth mesh core stack will be presented using OmNET++ simulation tool.
