The Impact of a Science Center Student Lab Project on Subject Attitudes Toward STEM Subjects and Career Choices in STEM Fields

This research examines the impact of the project ‘Development of Science Experiential Education Programs and Science Experiential Centres’, implemented by the Mobilis Science Center in Győr between 2017 and 2021. The professional and societal relevance of the program and research lies in the growing importance of STEM disciplines and careers worldwide in recent decades, ensuring a long-term supply of skilled workers. A vital tool for this is the development of curricula that meet the needs of the 21st century, as well as the innovation of teaching methods in science subjects. The research involves a review of the literature on experiential science teaching and subject attitudes, the role of science centers, and relevant project documents. The present research, involving 592 students, focused on attitudes toward technology and science, openness to STEM careers, and the experiences and memories of participants in the student lab theme days. The results of the statistical data analyses confirm the effectiveness of the experiential education methods used in the theme day sessions, as the students’ openness to STEM careers is higher for those who participated in the sessions compared to the non-participants. There are significant differences in the attitudes of girls and boys participating in the program toward science subjects. The results suggest that the success in stimulating interest in science was mainly due to the experiential nature of the sessions. Moreover, the research found that the project led to the strengthening of the participants’ personal and social skills. This study is the first to look at the impact of the project. The results shed light on how teaching STEM subjects using experiential pedagogical methods can contribute to the long-term effectiveness of Széchenyi István University’s enrollment efforts and lead to the economic success of companies in a region facing a significant labor shortage in STEM careers.

Fuzzy and Kohonen SOM based classification of different 0D nanostructures

In this paper, the clustering of the GaAs-based droplet epitaxially grown self-assembled nanostructures was investigated by soft-computing methods. The properties and the operation of these devices, depend on the type, the shape, the size, and their distribution of these 0 dimensional nanostructures. Because of this, it is very important to know, how and what kind of nanostructures can form, at the given technological parameters. Our goal is the classification of these nanostructures, in order to support the research and the production of these devices. Our solution is based on the shape factor calculation of the given nanostructure. In this work, two possible classification methods of nanostructures were introduced as well. First, the classification potential of the Kohonen Self-Organizing Mapping (SOM) was investigated. Second, the fuzzy inference system based classification was studied. In this case, the shape factor was determined by geometrical sizes of the nanostructures. In this paper the clustering was introduced, which supports many kinds of technology as well.

Compression ignition linear engine design variable effects

A linear engine/alternator was simulated and designed, and a prototype was built at West Virginia University. This paper describes the engine and presents original operational data. The linear engine was a two-cylinder, two-stroke, common rail direct injection, compression ignition engine. The engine was built using off the shelf components to reduce cost where it was possible. Engine control, injection duration and timing, were achieved using a microcontroller with piston position as a control input. Experiments on the engine were performed to study its behavior. The studied variables included mass of the translator, amount of fuel injected, injection timing, load, and stroke with operating frequency and mechanical efficiency as the basis of comparison. At this point of development, the engine was far from optimized; however, the trends in engine behavior were clear. Increasing the translator mass resulted in decreased operating frequency. Increasing the stroke length also resulted in decreased operating frequency. Overcharging and increased fueling rate, both, resulted in increased power output, efficiency, and operating frequency. Advancing injection timing resulted in increased frequency, efficiency and power output, and decreased stalling frequency. This suggests that the engine operated in an HCCI-like fashion. © 2011 by ASME.

In Part II of the paper we discussed the central role of the number-archetype 137 in some great medieval works related to St Stephen's court. On the basis of the hermeneutical interpretation of certain of Pauli's famous dream series, we intend to show his hypothetical "synchronistic (unconscious) recognition" of the dominant representations and meanings of the medieval works discussed in the earlier parts of this paper, which can be related to his isomorphic mythological and "physical" dream patterns. We can also conclude that Pauli, collaborating with Jung, himself confirms in his consistent "dream-messages" the symbolic meaningful relationship and structural isomorphy between the basic quantum-physical model's features (e.g. the fine structure constant) and their hypothetical primordial images appearing even in the actual medieval works.

Digitalization and technological innovation have revolutionized the retail sector. In recent years, a new trend has emerged in the form of unmanned stores, pioneered by Amazon Go. Unmanned solutions using artificial intelligence are beginning to enter the public consciousness and represent a new sustainability perspective (such as lowering paper waste, packaging or using sustainable construction materials) in trade. Although it is not yet widespread and is still a new solution for consumers, the global market dynamics suggest that it will expand in the future. Unmanned shops pose some challenges, but these can be effectively addressed by the appropriate introduction of new technology. To identify or filter out potential shortcomings of this technology on the consumer side, it is also necessary to examine the acceptance of this technology by customers. In this paper, the internationally accepted Extended Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT2) model was modified and used to examine how consumers accept this technology. For data analysis, Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Modelling method was applied. In the proposed model six constructs were examined on how they influence the intention to use. In the performed query, Hungarian university students’ behavioural intention is influenced by performance expectancy, effort expectancy, and hedonic motivation. However social influence, atmosphere, and price sensitivity have no significant influence on use intention.

Enhance of OEE by hybrid analysis at the automotive semi-automatic assembly lines

Nowadays, industrial companies are constantly improving their processes and increasing their efficiency in order to achieve higher profits. One of the most common measures of efficiency at the semi-automatic assembly lines is the Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) as a Key Performance Indicator (KPI). The goal of measurement of OEE is to improve the effectiveness of machines or production lines with minimal investments. The article presents a way to increase this indicator using an own hybrid analysis. Firstly, a literature review demonstrates scientific relevance. Secondly, a hybrid analysis is introduced for improving the efficiency. The effectiveness of the analysis is demonstrated by a practical example using data mining and line balancing, during which there was a 60% improvement in yield. Patterns recognitions by machine combined with human analysis provides this outstanding result. Hybrid analysis can be used not only on assembly lines, but also on individual machines where a lot of data is generated and the cycle time or takt time needs to be reduced for higher yields.

The Role of Media in Sponsorship Decision Making During Covid-19: A Malaysian Perspective

COVID-19 has impacted not only human lives, but also business organisations. The repercussions of the pandemic on global businesses include sustaining the value of a firm that could benefit stakeholders, such as the challenge for sponsored properties to attain sponsorship through a period of financial struggles and the capacity of a sponsor to provide it. It is imperative for business-to-business (B2B) communities to evaluate criteria and risks of sponsorship to instil public trust and consequently result in value creation for firms. At the same time, the role of the media is pivotal to create visibility of this partnership and achieve set sponsorship aims. With that said, the objective of this study is to explore the role of sponsorship decision making by Malaysian organisations during the pandemic and how the media have strengthened relationship marketing between businesses and their stakeholders; by examining the determinant factors of using media as an activation in sponsorship and the criteria of using media in sponsorship. The qualitative study conducted interviews with 13 corporate communication and marketing managers in Malaysia that are involved directly with sponsorship activation. The findings highlight the sponsorship ecosystem through the Malaysian media and B2B perspectives that would guide practitioners in making strategic decisions on B2B sponsorship matters, particularly on the relational approaches and media engagement should be seen as part of good business conduct. Future recommendation of this research is to seek the perceptions of consumers on the congruence of relationship marketing through sponsor-sponsored properties collaboration in Malaysian media.
