Physical Internet: A solution for the Supply Chain disruptions during the COVID-19 pandemic

In this paper, we will specify our research on the impact of the COVID19 on Supply Chain Management and show up the critical issues and how the digital solution like the Physical Internet (PI, π) could solve the disruptions of production or delivery of a Supply Chain. The Physical Internet is still an emerging phenomenon in which it is intended to replace the current logistics model by encompassing new technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, the Internet of Things (IoT), and others. This article aims to compose conceptual research to describe Supply Chain Management problems during the COVID-19 pandemic and represent the Physical Internet as a solution for this disruption based on various journal articles, papers, websites, and managers' experiences. Further, this study helps increase the understanding of scholars and practitioners on how the novel PI paradigm can solve COVID-19-induced Supply Chain disruptions. Furthermore, the Physical Internet and other modern technologies in the business world are necessary and recommended, as these current issues now require quick decisions and up-to-date knowledge.

Effect of dietary butyrate supplementation on the production performance and parasitology of growing rabbits

The effect of a dietary butyrate supplementation on the production of fattening rabbits was examined. The control group (n=70 rabbits) was fed with granulated diet whereas the diet of butyrate group (n=70 rabbit) was supplemented with 0.2% of butyrate. The mortality rate was examined on a larger population (n=1050 rabbits/group). Butyrate group had lower weight gain at the ages of 46-52 and 60-66 days (-20 and - 17 %, respectively; P>0.001) but higher weight gain at 53-59 days of age (+13%; P<0.05). Butyrate group consumed less feed than the control group between 38-45, 46-52 and 60-66 days (-2.4%, P<0.001; -5.7%, P<0.01; - 4.9%, P<0.05, respectively). The feed conversion ratio of the butyrate group was worse between 46-52 days of age (+19%; P<0.01) but favourable at the ages of 53-59 and 67-73 days (-15% and -9%, respectively; P<0.05). Concerning the whole fattening period the weight gain, the feed intake and the feed conversion ratio of the groups did not differ. In the larger examined population, 4.0% and 6.3 % mortality was observed in the control and butyrate groups, respectively. The parasitological tests resulted only negative samples independently of groups. It can be concluded that dietary butyrate supplementation has not improved the performance of the growing rabbits.

Extension of the Energetic Modeling of a Single-Stage Gear Unit to a Multi-Stage Constant Ratio Gear Unit †

The difficulty in designing gears to be installed in electric vehicles is caused by the fact that the efficiency of gears is generally treated as a constant value in the entire operating range, while these show significant differences in different operating ranges; therefore, it is necessary to examine the energy and efficiency of the gear, and to create a mathematical model, which can be optimally fitted into the vehicle’s drivetrain in terms of energy. I have performed this modeling in previous years for a single-stage gear unit. However, this model encounters physical limitations, since a larger gear ratio modification cannot be performed in one stage; the number of stages must be increased as the gear ratio increases. As the number of stages increases, the structure of the mathematical model changes, as changes to the gear unit must be incorporated into the model. In this article, an extension of the mathematical model of the gear unit is presented.

Households’ electricity consumption in hungarian urban areas

The aim of this study is to examine the factors influencing the electricity consumption of urban households and to prove these with statistically significant results. The study includes 46 small and medium-sized towns in Hungary. The methodology of the study is mainly provided by a model that can be used for this purpose; however, the results obtained with the traditional regression method are compared with the results of another, more complex estimation method, the artificial neural network, which has the advantage of being able to use different types of models. The focus of our article is on methodological alignment, not necessarily the discovery of new results. Certain demographic characteristics significantly determine the energy demand of a household sector in a municipality. In this case, as the ratio of people aged 60 or over within a city rises by 1%, the urban household average energy consumption decreases by 61 kilowatt hours, and when it rises by 1%, the amount of pollutants expelled from urban households’ average energy consumption may decrease by 22.8745 kg. The research area of our paper was greatly influenced by the availability of the statistical data. The results can be used in the planning of urban developments.

Effects of selective laser melting building directions and surface modifications on surface roughness of Ti6Al4V alloy

Abstract: In this paper, the effect of building direction relative to the substrate (0°, 45°, and 90°) on the surface roughness of Ti6Al4V samples produced by selective laser melting (SLM) has been investigated. After SLM, the samples were subjected to different surface modifications, including acid etching (E) with HF, sandblasting (S) with Al2O3 and sandblasting + etching (SE). Surface roughness of the prepared samples were investigated by Alicona Infinite Focus optical microscopy and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). It was found that there is an inverse relationship between surface roughness and building directions. Additionally, the results showed that the acid etching process increases the surface roughness of the samples at 45° and 90°, while the surface roughness decreases at 0°. Furthermore, the results showed that sandblasting and sandblasting followed with acid etching (SE) effectively reduced the surface roughness of the samples at all building directions. In summary, the acid-etched Ti6Al4V surfaces manufactured at 90° showed a superior surface roughness (Ra = 4.25 ± 0.21, Rz = 29.63 ± 2.34 μm) among the specimens, which is encouraged osseointegration of implants.

Some variants of the method of fundamental solutions: Regularization using radial and nearly radial basis functions

The method of fundamental solutions and some versions applied to mixed boundary value problems are considered. Several strategies are outlined to avoid the problems due to the singularity of the fundamental solutions: the use of higher order fundamental solutions, and the use of nearly fundamental solutions and special fundamental solutions concentrated on lines instead of points. The reclassification of 37 strains from The Mosonmagyaróvár Algal Culture Collection, Hungary, which were previously identified as Anabaena (Cyanobacteria, Nostocaceae)

Study on 37 MACC isolates previously identified as “Anabaena,” a freshwater filamentous heterocytous taxon, were carried out using the 16S rRNA. The study found that most of the strains were misidentified at genus level. Three clusters of phylogenetically and morphologically similar taxa were identified. The previous determinations were amended with their new taxonomic classifications (partly due to changes in cyanobacterial classification). Some morphological structures could not be found in the cultures (e.g. akinetes). Molecular data revealed that 6 of the 37 strains are Desmonostoc, 8 are members of the genus Nostoc, 19 strains bear genetic resemblance to the genus Trichormus and 4 strains remain unresolved. Clades were established by 16S rRNA similarity and p-distances. The goal of this study was to amend the strain designations in this collection. This study reveals the necessity to revisit established culture collections that originally used only morphological classifications for species identification.

One health agriculture: Heat stress mitigation dilemma in agriculture

The concept of One Health was developed as a successful strategy for addressing global crises that impact the health of animals, humans, and plants. The agriculture industry is facing a huge dilemma due to climate change and the impacts of heat stress, which might pose a threat to mankind in the future. In order to enhance the management of heat stress in the agriculture sector (Agri-heat stress), we suggest implementing the One Health approach. This is because the existing methods employed to alleviate heat stress in both livestock and crop farming may have side-effects on the well-being of animals, plants, humans, and the ecosystem. This review article examines the “dilemma” of mitigating heat stress in animal and crop husbandry. It discusses the One Health approach to heat stress, including a recommended strategy for reducing Agri-heat stress using the One Health approach. The study also highlights the benefits of adopting the One Health approach in mitigating Agri-heat stress. In our opinion, the efficacy of the One Health Approach in reducing Agri-heat stress depends on the process of conceptualization. This process includes recognizing the issue or hypothesis, as well as incorporating cooperating teams in the creation of environmentally friendly approaches. The efficacy and challenges of implementing this notion arise from the precise coordination of resources and collaborators.

Computational simulation of mesopic vision based on camera recordings

Understanding mesopic vision is one of the hottest topics in lighting engineering [1]. The high importance of the field comes from the wide variety of the applications such as driving and other outdoor activities are performed in mesopic conditions at night. Therefore, it is extremely important to calculate the visibility of different objects in such conditions. In this paper, we present the algorithm and the first results of software, which is able to simulate the behaviour of human retina in scotopic, mesopic and photopic ranges, calculates the direction-dependent acuity. Our aim was to produce a practical tool to examine real-time situations. Therefore, classical camera recordings are used as input, which limits the accuracy but extends the range of applications.
