1. SUMMARY Milk and dairy products represent one of the foundations of the human diet because of their valuable ingredients and pleasant sensory properties. The aim of our research was to investigate how different heat treatment processes (microwave irradiation, drying) affect the shelf life of dairy products (yogurt) from a microbiological point of view. In the course of our measurements, the effects of the different heat treatment parameters of the flavoring substances used in the production of the products (apples, bananas) on the microbiological properties of the products and, thus, on their shelf life were investigated. In our experiments, conventional drying (55 °C, 24 hours) and microwave irradiation technology (800 W, 55 °C, 10 min) were used as treatment forms of the additives. Comparisons were made in terms of microbiological parameters (total viable count, yeast/mold count and E. coli/coliform count). Based on our results, we believe that the drying process can ensure microbiological safety in food production if the air circulating in the equipment has adequate hygienic properties. The microwave irradiation technology can be used successfully to inhibit microbes in foods, in this case fruits. However, the same treatment parameters cannot be applied to different fruits.

Heat radiation effects on insulating materials used in buildings

In recent years, in order to increase the energy efficiency of older buildings in Hungary, several tenders have supported the modernization of the thermal insulation. Various thermal insulation materials have been installed on walls, on slab and on floor. Unfortunately there are cases where thermal insulation materials are not installed in accordance with the construction permit or the manufacturer's instructions, which poses a serious danger in case of a fire. During the research the effects of heat on the behavior of Expanded PolyStyrene, a thermal insulation material often used in Hungary is examined. Laboratory tests and computer simulations were carried out, which are presented in detail in this paper. The aim of the research is to contribute to increase the fire safety of buildings.

How to regulate forensic familial DNA searching in Hungary?

Forensic DNA analysis has the potential to provide useful information for criminal justice even in cases where there is no match, neither between the DNA profile generated from the crime scene and the existing DNA profiles in criminal databases, nor between the DNA collected at a crime scene and potential suspects. In contrast to traditional forensic genetic testing, forensic familial DNA searching does not provide evidence, but helps to generate investigative leads and narrow down the range of potential offenders. The aim of this study is to examine, whether there is a need for special regulation of this topic in Hungary.

Spectral Analysis of the Lateral Dynamics of Road Vehicles †

In this paper, a time domain and a spectral analysis of the lateral dynamics of a Lexus passenger car are presented. Measurements were made of the vehicle’s lateral acceleration and steering angle. The aim of the measurements is to understand the vehicle’s lateral dynamics during different cornering maneuvers. For this purpose, part of the measurements is performed with a driver and the other part with autonomous control. The data processed and analyzed in this research can be used to determine the nature of the lateral dynamics, which is essential to establishing a mathematical relationship between the measured signals. This will allow the identification and modeling of vehicle dynamics, which is key to the development and optimization of autonomous vehicle control systems.

Diffusion in electrodes used for resistance spot welding of galvannealed steel

A study was carried out on Zr-Cr bearing copper electrodes used for resistance spot welding of galvannealed steel strips. One electrode exhibited a series of well-defined layers in which Zn diffused to form β- and γ-brasses; an external layer containing iron was detected in this electrode. Another electrode that exhibited a high degree of damage did not exhibited continuous Zn-diffusion layers in all places, moreover, the Fe-containing layer was either removed, or had it grown to a high extent in some places; the occurrence of Cu-rich particles embedded within the Fe containing layer was observed. Multiple cracks were observed within the γ brass layer in both electrodes. The difference in the observed behaviour of the electrodes can be attributed to a difference in the characteristics of the galvannealed coating of the strips, as the first electrode was used to weld strips in which the layer corresponding to the γ phase was well developed, whereas the second electrode was used to weld strips with only an incipient layer. It can be concluded that growth of the γ phase changes the thermophysical properties of the zinc coating, affecting the temperature profile during spot welding. © (2010) Trans Tech Publications.

ACTN3 rs1815739 and BDNF rs6265 Polymorphisms May Not Be Associated with Handgrip Strength in Elite Wrestlers

Background/Objectives: Handgrip strength (HGS) is a widely used indicator of upper-limb muscular strength and a practical proxy for neuromuscular performance across both clinical and athletic contexts. Although HGS is heritable, evidence supporting specific genetic contributors in elite athletes remains limited. Thus, the present study investigated the associations of two functional polymorphisms, BDNF rs6265 (p.Val66Met) and ACTN3 rs1815739 (p.R577X), with HGS performance in elite wrestlers, integrating neuromuscular and muscle fiber-related biological pathways. Methods: The present study included 613 subjects (56 elite male wrestlers (mean age: 22.35 ± 5.34 years; training experience: 13.40 ± 3.85 years) and 557 healthy individuals drawn from a public database). HGS measurements were performed using a digital hand dynamometer. Results: Genotyping was performed on DNA extracted from peripheral blood using a high-density single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) array. Neither BDNF rs6265 nor ACTN3 rs1815739 was significantly associated with HGS in elite wrestlers (p > 0.05), and effect estimates were negligible. In addition, ACTN3 rs1815739 genotype and allele frequencies were comparable between wrestlers and the reference population, indicating no enrichment of this variant in the elite cohort. In this sample of elite male wrestlers, BDNF rs6265 and ACTN3 rs1815739 were not associated with HGS, and ACTN3 rs1815739 was not enriched relative to a national reference population. Conclusions: These findings suggest no detectable effects of single candidate variants on HGS under the current study design in highly trained athletes; however, this interpretation should be made cautiously given cohort-specific limitations and does not preclude their potential contribution within the broader polygenic architecture of strength-related traits. Future research employing larger, well-powered, and multi-cohort designs and polygenic approaches is warranted to further elucidate the genetic basis of strength phenotypes.

Investigation of Convective and Radiative Heat Transfer of 21700 Lithium-Ion Battery Cells

Due to their high energy density and power potential, 21700 lithium-ion battery cells are a widely used technology in hybrid and electric vehicles. Efficient thermal management is essential for maximizing the performance and capacity of Li-ion cells in both low- and high-temperature operating conditions. Optimizing thermal management systems remains critical, particularly for long-range and weight-sensitive applications. In these contexts, passive heat dissipation emerges as an ideal solution, offering effective thermal regulation with minimal additional system weight. This study aims to deepen the understanding of passive heat dissipation in 21700 battery cells and optimize their performance. Special emphasis is placed on analyzing heat transfer and the relative contributions of convective and radiative mechanisms under varying temperature and discharge conditions. Laboratory experiments were conducted under controlled environmental conditions at various discharge rates, ranging from 0.5×C to 5×C. A 3D-printed polymer casing was applied to the cell to enhance thermal dissipation, designed specifically to increase radiative heat transfer while minimizing system weight and reliance on active cooling solutions. Additionally, a numerical model was developed and optimized using experimental data. This model simulates convective and radiative heat transfer mechanisms with minimal computational demand. The optimized numerical model is intended to facilitate further investigation of the cell envelope strategy at the module and battery pack levels in future studies.

Investigation of the Effect of a New Type of Copper–Sucrose Complex Compound on the Yield and Quality Parameters of Winter Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.)

We conducted experiments on winter wheat grown in copper-deficient soil, where soil tests revealed a more pronounced deficiency in the deeper layers. As climate change reduces precipitation, plants increasingly rely on nutrients from these deeper layers. A copper–sucrose complex—previously unused in agriculture—was applied as a foliar spray during the tillering and flowering stages. Across the three-year average, significant increases were observed starting from the 1 kg ha−1 copper dose in yield, from 0.3 kg ha−1 in crude protein content, and from 0.5 kg ha−1 in wet gluten content compared to the untreated control. For all three parameters, the highest values were achieved with the 2 kg ha−1 dose. Yield increased by 1.03 t ha−1, crude protein by 0.9%, and wet gluten by 2.3% relative to the control. In 2019, high humidity and favorable temperatures during flowering led to fungal infections in control plots, with DON toxin concentrations exceeding the regulatory safety threshold. Following copper–sucrose complex application, DON levels dropped below this threshold, demonstrating a measurable protective effect.
